Shared in the Holy Spirit (Jul 24th)

Verse
For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened — those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come — and who then turn away from God...

Hebrews 6:4-6a nlt

Thought
This very tough and frank passage has a powerful promise: those who belong to Jesus have "shared in the Holy Spirit." Following Jesus, being forgiven, receiving the gift of salvation means that we share in the Holy Spirit! This was proclaimed from the very first message at Pentecost (Acts 2:38), it is championed by Paul as a reminder we are God's children (Rom. 8:9), and it is part of the song of the redeemed as they invite Jesus to return (Rev. 22:17). To be saved is to share in this incredible gift of grace — God has shared himself in the Holy Spirit with us!

Prayer
Almighty God, I know that I have sometimes moved away from your presence and sought my own way. But, dear Father, I never want to turn my back on you. I thank you for sharing yourself with me by giving me the Holy Spirit when I came to Jesus. Thank you for this taste of heaven and this promise of the future. Please fill me more with this presence and use me to your glory. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
