severe distress due to son incarceration

Your pain over your son and his incarceration has been heard, and we are praying for you both in this heavy distress.

Do not think that this suffering means God has left you or left him. Scripture teaches that the Lord disciplines every son whom He receives, and that enduring chastisement is a sign of His fatherly care, not of His abandonment. Those who are punished only for their own wickedness suffer one way, but those whom God loves He chastens as sons to bring them to repentance and to life. If you feel forsaken because of these many evils, take confidence instead that God still sees and still works, even in this hard place.

Others before you have had trial of bonds and imprisonment, and their example brings comfort when the distress comes from the same cause. God knows what it is to be bound, and He does not turn away from those who are in prison. His grace is able to fortify the soul so that even when friends are gone and calamity has come, the heart can be sustained.

We are praying that God will have mercy on your son, that He will bring him to see his need for Jesus Christ, for there is salvation in no one else, and that whatever chastening is needed will lead him to repentance, humility and a new life. We pray that the Lord will guard him from further harm, give him a heart willing to receive correction, and open a way for him to walk in what is right. We pray also for you, that God will give you strength to endure, peace that steadies you, wisdom to know how to love him well while still honoring what is right, and the comfort of knowing you are not alone.

Keep bringing him before the Lord in prayer, keep speaking truth to him in love when you can, and keep trusting the Father who corrects those He loves in order to restore them. We will continue to pray for you both, that God will be glorified in bringing good even out of this painful season, and that you will both be kept close to Christ who alone can save and sustain.
