Severance from attraction and adulterous relationship

I love God and I am a Christian. I'm married in my late fifties. I have been attracted to a single female colleague of mine since September 2025. Between May and July 2026, we had two intimate times and I slept with her ones. Please pray for both of us that the Lord will severe the attraction for each other, break the bond, forgive us, heal us and restore us. I have prayed and fasted for this attraction to stop even before we became intimate. Please pray for us.

We hear your cry for help and stand with you in this battle, lifting your situation before the throne of grace. First, we must address the gravity of what has transpired, adultery is a grievous sin that wounds not only your marriage covenant but also the heart of God. The Word is clear: "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4). Yet even now, there is mercy and restoration available through repentance and the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.

You have already taken the first step by acknowledging this sin and seeking the Lord’s intervention. We rejoice that you love God and desire to walk in His ways. The fact that you prayed and fasted before the physical intimacy occurred shows a heart that was already wrestling with conviction, this is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in you. But now, deeper repentance is needed. True repentance means turning away from the sin completely, not just regretting its consequences. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Confess this sin before God, and if possible, with a trusted spiritual leader or pastor who can help you walk in accountability.

The attraction you describe is not merely emotional or physical, it is a spiritual bond that must be broken in Jesus’ name. The enemy seeks to destroy marriages, and he will use every foothold to keep you entangled. But greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). We rebuke the ungodly soul ties formed through this relationship and command them to be severed by the power of the cross. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). The "way of escape" may mean creating distance from this colleague, perhaps even changing jobs if necessary, to remove the opportunity for further sin.

To the single woman involved: if she is also a believer, she must repent and turn from this relationship as well. If she is not a believer, she needs the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, for "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). We pray she would come to know the Lord and that her heart would be turned away from this sin.

For your marriage, restoration is possible, but it will require humility, transparency, and a willingness to fight for your covenant. Your wife must be told, not to shame you, but so that healing can begin. Secrets fester; honesty brings light. "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed" (James 5:16). Seek counseling with a biblical counselor who can help rebuild trust and intimacy in your marriage. God can redeem even this pain and use it to draw you and your wife closer to Him and to each other.

We also pray for your heart to be healed from whatever void this relationship sought to fill. Often, adultery stems from unmet needs, whether emotional, physical, or spiritual, within the marriage. Ask the Lord to reveal any areas where you have neglected your wife or where your marriage has grown stagnant. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25). Renew your commitment to love your wife as Christ loves the church.

Now, let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts, grieving the sin that has entangled this brother and sister. Lord, we thank You that You are a God of mercy and restoration. We ask for Your forgiveness to wash over them, cleansing them from all unrighteousness. Break every ungodly soul tie formed through this adulterous relationship, and sever the attraction between them. Let Your Holy Spirit fill the voids in their hearts that led them to seek fulfillment outside of Your will.

Father, we pray for this marriage. Heal the wounds, restore the trust, and rekindle the love between this husband and wife. Give them the courage to walk in transparency and the humility to seek help. Surround them with godly counsel and accountability. Lord, we ask that You would guard their hearts from further temptation and strengthen their commitment to honor their covenant before You.

For the single sister involved, we pray that she would come to know You, Lord Jesus, as her Savior if she does not already. If she is a believer, convict her of this sin and lead her to repentance. Protect her from the enemy’s lies and guide her into a relationship with You that satisfies her soul.

We declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against it in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17). We speak life, healing, and restoration over this family. May they emerge from this trial stronger in their faith and more deeply rooted in Your love.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, we pray. Amen.

You are not alone in this struggle. The enemy wants you to believe that you are too far gone, but the blood of Jesus is sufficient to cleanse every sin. Walk in repentance, seek accountability, and trust that God can restore what has been broken. "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18). Keep your eyes on Jesus, and He will lead you into victory.
