Seeking prayer for a softened heart

Disciple of Prayer
I'm seeking prayer for a softened heart. My heart is hardened. I don't have godly sorrow nor a hatred for sin as I should. I don't seem to have conviction over sin but I would like to have all of these things. There's also demons physically wrapped around my head and body squeezing and digging into me. This has been going on for 4 years. I'm seeking prayer for healing and deliverance as well. Thank you for praying.

We hear your cry for help, and we come before the throne of grace together, lifting you up in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Your honesty about the hardness of your heart and the spiritual oppression you are enduring is a brave first step toward healing and deliverance. We stand with you, believing that God is able to break every chain and soften even the most hardened heart.

First, we must address the spiritual warfare you are facing. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." The demons you describe are real, and their grip on you is a sign of the enemy’s attempt to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). But Jesus came to set the captives free, and we declare that freedom over you right now. In the name of Jesus, we rebuke every demonic spirit that is wrapped around your head and body. We command them to loose their hold and flee from you, for it is written in James 4:7, "Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

We also pray for the softening of your heart. A hardened heart is often a result of unconfessed sin, pride, or a lack of godly sorrow. The Bible says in Ezekiel 36:26, "I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh." We pray that God would break the hardness in your heart and replace it with a tender spirit that is sensitive to His leading. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of sin in your life that you may have become numb to. Psalm 51:17 tells us, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise." Confess your sins before the Lord, and He is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

We also encourage you to cultivate a hatred for sin. Sin separates us from God, and it is the root of all brokenness in this world. Romans 12:9 says, "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good." Ask God to give you a holy hatred for sin, not just because of its consequences, but because it grieves the heart of God. When we see sin as God sees it, we will run from it and toward Him.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister to You, asking that You would soften their heart and break every chain of hardness that the enemy has placed upon them. Lord, we declare that Your Word is true, and we stand on the promise that You will give them a new heart and a new spirit. Remove the stony heart and replace it with a heart of flesh that is tender and responsive to Your voice.

We rebuke every demonic spirit that is oppressing them. In the name of Jesus, we command these spirits to loose their grip and flee. We declare that our brother/sister is a child of God, bought with the precious blood of Jesus, and no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We pray for complete healing and deliverance from this spiritual attack. Send Your angels to encamp around them and protect them from every scheme of the enemy.

Lord, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit and give them a deep conviction of sin. Let them see sin as You see it, and give them the strength to turn away from it. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:10). May they experience the fullness of Your love, grace, and mercy, and may their life bring glory and honor to Your name.

We also pray for godly sorrow to take root in their heart. Let them mourn over their sin and find comfort in Your forgiveness and restoration. May they walk in the freedom that Christ has purchased for them, and may their life be a testimony to Your power and love.

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your goodness and Your faithfulness to complete the work You have begun in them. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word daily, for it is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Meditate on Scriptures that speak of God’s love, forgiveness, and deliverance. Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and encourage you in your walk with Christ. Do not grow weary, for the Lord is fighting for you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Your breakthrough is coming!

We can only imagine how wearying these four years have been, the relentless pressure, the longing for a heart that breaks over sin the way you want it to. What strikes us about your request is that the very fact you are naming this, grieving your hardness, and asking for godly sorrow is itself a sign that God has not abandoned you to a stone heart. A truly hardened heart does not care that it is hard. Your ache for conviction is, in its own quiet way, a form of conviction already at work.

When physical oppression like this persists, we find it wise not to carry the weight alone. In our ministry we’ve seen how deliverance often unfolds best when two or three spiritually mature, steady believers walk alongside someone, a collaborative time of prayer, renouncing what needs to be renounced, and inviting Jesus the Deliverer to bring freedom. If you are not already linked with a trusted pastor or prayer team who will take this seriously and meet with you more than once, we’d gently encourage you to seek that out. It is not a failure of your faith to need the faith of others around you.

And as you pursue that, know this: Jesus is not afraid of demons, and he is not impatient with your heart. He withstood the wilderness assault; he continues to intercede with unshakable compassion. You are not too far gone for him.

Please join us as we pray.

Lord Jesus, we lift this dear one to you, physically worn, spiritually heavy, and so honest about it. By your Spirit, soften where hardness has set in. Grant the gift of real sorrow over sin, not as shame that drives away, but as grief that turns back toward you. We stand against every dark presence squeezing and tormenting, and we command in your name that these spirits lose their hold and release this beloved child. Surround your son with steady, prayerful companions, and bring enduring freedom. In your mighty name, Jesus, amen.

The very cry for a softened heart is the whisper of grace within it. A heart utterly hardened does not lament its own hardness; it is insensible as stone. Yet you feel the coils of the enemy, and you mourn the absence of godly sorrow. There is hope in that.

Look, I entreat you, to the pierced Son of God. It is written, "They shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn." True tenderness, deep evangelical repentance, is not wrought by lashing yourself with regrets or fighting demons in your own strength. It is born at the cross. Fix the eye of faith upon Jesus Christ, meek and lowly in heart, bleeding for sin not His own. As you gaze upon that sacred head, that wounded side, that heart pierced for your transgression, the Spirit will begin to melt the ice within. The grief you lack will steal over you, not because you have scrutinized your own soul, but because you have seen His beauty and the horror of what your sin cost Him.

The enemy may press upon your body and mind, but he cannot bar the presence of the Holy Ghost from your inner man. Cry, "Lord, give me a heart to know You!" He has promised to take away the stony heart and to give a heart of flesh. The demons fear that prayer, for where the love of God is shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Spirit, darkness must flee. That love, like a rich perfume, kills the love of sin and loosens every grip of the adversary. Yet beware of a divided heart, which wavers between sin and the Savior. A heart half given to the world and half to Christ is held guilty, and it is an open door for torment. Cast yourself wholly upon Him. Determine this day to renounce every secret thing that grieves the Spirit, and to trust not in feelings but in the finished work of the Lamb.

I shall pray for your healing and deliverance, for the Lord Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. But know that your surest deliverance will come as you learn to hide yourself in His heart. When His meekness and lowliness become your resting place, the proud oppressor will find no foothold. Go now, and inquire of the Lord. He will give you that new heart, and with it the godly sorrow that works repentance unto life.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
