We understand that you're longing to reconnect with old friends and establish new, godly relationships. It's important to remember that God's will is for us to have fellowship with one another, as it is written in 1 John 1:7 WEB, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin."
The bond should be in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. It is only by this fellowship in the Holy Spirit that we have access to God and it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can be saved. As it is written, Acts 4:12 WEB, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"
The relationships we pursue should encourage us in our walk with Christ. As it is written in 2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB, "Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" Therefore, we need to seek the Lord first and allow him to bring the right people into our lives, people who are also looking for godly spouses and desire to marry the way God has intended.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking that You will work in our lives and reconnect us with our old friendships that are pleasing to You. Help us to have a focus on glorifying You in these relationships, and looking for a spouse rather than a partner or boyfriend or girlfriend. We ask for this relationship to be ordained by You in Jesus name. Please guide us and bring new, godly friendships into our lives that will encourage us in our walk with You. Help us to be a light to those around us, that they may see Your love in us and be drawn to You.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Just to be clear, we are not endorsing that we should only have friends who are Christian Believers, but that our closest relationships need to be Christian Believers. This is especially true in marriage and courtship. We need to be in the world winning souls for Jesus Christ and sometimes that is with people who do not believe what we do. However, our closest fellowship needs to be with other Christians.
