Secrets The Old Saints Knew

Secrets The Old Saints Knew

Many years ago as a young Christian, I saw the old saints go into the House God with one thing on their mind, they went seeking the presence of God. I really didn't understand at that time all that was taking place, but over the years I have learned. Those saints knew something that seems to be missing in this day and time. They knew if they diligently pursued God and His will they already had the petitions they asked for.

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

These old saints didn't just come with a bag of request, because they knew God would meet their every need. Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

I couldn't help but wonder what drew these saints to the alter. Many would lay prostrate on the floor for hours. Being inspired and inquisitive, I asked some of these old timers about this? They told me that they just enjoyed being in the presence of the Lord. Getting to know Him, was their number one priority. Psalms 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

What I saw these dear saints doing, looked as if they were laboring in prayer, when in reality they were learning to abide in the Lords presence.

John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Those old saints were never in a hurry when it came to being in God's presence. There was no such thing as ten minute prayers. These saints knew that spending time with God was as vital to their spiritual life as breath is to our physical life. As a result of spending time in God's presence and truly enjoyed being there, they had His power eminating from them, and many miraculous things were done in their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

We are told in Ecclesiastes 3:1 "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven", and as children of God we should pray "always and without ceasing," but just as those old saints, we should set this special time alone with God, learning to enjoy and desire His presence and let nothing stand in our way. I rest assured this will change all our lives for the good.

Don, God bless you! Thank you for helping me grow in my faith and knowledge. Yesterday during my quiet time with the Lord I learned that Satan likes to distract me when I'm praying intently or trying to pray intently. Just as that conclusion dawned on me, my cell phone beeped with a message and I checked it! Can you believe that? I actually stopped my praying to check on my phone! How awful! Satan won that one, but I'm on to him now and I will try to be more careful in the future. Have a great day Don and MerciMe!
