Salvation of loved one

Disciple of Prayer
My friend ### is an atheist. I pray his heart is softened and scales come off his eyes. And that he would have encounter with God, miracles, and repentance in his life and ultimately salvation. Let every argument that is contrary to the gospel be torn down in his mind and heart and may God remove any pride that stops him from knowing God. And may his heart be healed from past pain. Amen

We join with you in lifting up your friend before the throne of grace and we share your burden for his salvation, for we know it is the heart of God that none should perish but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9 and that He desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:4.

We love your prayer that his heart would be softened and the scales would fall from his eyes, for the Scripture tells us that the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them 2 Corinthians 4:4. Only God can remove that blindness, and we take comfort that He has promised I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. We also join you in praying that every argument contrary to the gospel would be torn down, for we are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5, and that any pride that keeps him from knowing God would be humbled, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble James 4:6. We also pray with you for his past pain to be healed, for He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3.

We want to gently encourage you concerning what was not mentioned in your request, for you prayed to God for encounter and salvation but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We share this in love because there is no other way to the Father and no other name by which we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is only through faith in Jesus, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9, that any of us can be reconciled to God. So when we pray for your friend we must pray specifically that he would come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, repent of his sin and put his trust in the finished work of the cross.

We pray together now, Father, we lift up this dear friend to You in the mighty name of Jesus. We ask that You would open his eyes as You opened the eyes of Saul and that the scales would fall away Acts 9:18. Soften his heart, Lord, remove the heart of stone and give him a heart of flesh that is tender toward You. Tear down in his mind every argument and every proud thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of You, and reveal to him his need for a Savior. Heal the wounds of past pain that may have hardened him toward You and show him that You are near to the brokenhearted. Grant him a true encounter with the living Christ, not just miracles for their own sake but the miracle of repentance and new birth. Bring faithful witnesses across his path and give us boldness to speak the gospel with gentleness and respect. Draw him by Your Holy Spirit to confess Jesus as Lord and believe that You raised Him from the dead, that he may be saved. We ask all this in the precious and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to continue steadfast in prayer and not grow weary, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up Galatians 6:9. Keep loving him, keep living the gospel before him so that he may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven Matthew 5:16, and be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear 1 Peter 3:15. Share with him clearly who Jesus is and what He has done, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ Romans 10:17. We stand with you trusting that God is patient and merciful and is working even now in his heart.

We were moved by your love for your friend and the way you are carrying him before the Lord. Wanting him to truly encounter God, to have his questions and pride softened and his old hurts healed, is a beautiful burden to bring to Jesus.

We take comfort that salvation is ultimately God's work in the heart. We can love well, speak truth gently, and pray faithfully, but only He can open eyes and bring the wholeness you are asking for. That takes pressure off you and puts your friend in the best hands.

One simple way to keep loving him well is to keep praying as you are, and alongside that stay a steady, listening presence. When he shares what keeps him from believing, whether it is intellectual doubts or past pain, you do not have to win the argument. Listening well, answering honestly when he asks, and letting your life show the hope you have often speaks louder than debate. If he is ever open, a quiet invitation to join you for church or to read a Gospel together can be a natural next step.

We are joining you in this.

Father, we lift this dear friend to You. Soften his heart, remove what keeps him from seeing You, heal the places of past pain, and draw him to Yourself through Jesus. Give our friend here wisdom, patience and love as he walks beside him. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a right and precious burden you carry for your friend, and to bring him before the Lord in prayer is the most loving work you can do for his soul. Prayer is a suitable employment for a sinner, and a sinner is the best person to exercise prayer, and when you pray for another sinner you stand in the fit attitude of humility, which is the friend of prayer. The sword of prayer has such an edge that it will cut through coats of mail, and though arguments and pride may now fortify his mind against the gospel, that sword can pierce what reason cannot.

You do well to plead as Jacob did, for true prayer is pleading with the Most High, spreading our case before Him and pressing our suit with all the arguments we can muster. Take your friend's case and argue it before God. Plead the promises, that whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed, and that God has said, Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. Plead that Christ is the sinner's Friend, a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother, who gave His heart's blood and let His soul run out that sinners might live. Plead against the pride that exalts itself and against every thought that sets itself up contrary to the knowledge of God, asking the Lord in mercy to cast down those strongholds and to soften what is hard. Such humble, argumentative prayer does not inform God as though He needed to be told, but it honors Him and it prevails, for Jacob was a prevailing prince when he was on his knees.

Know this, that salvation is by Divine Grace through faith in Christ Jesus alone. There is no other way. What is believing on Him but trusting in Him, looking unto Him as the one foundation God has laid in Zion. How simple is that way of salvation and how instantaneous, for a look does not require a moment. It is without money and without price, free to the chief of sinners who will lift the knocker of prayer and cry, God be merciful to me a sinner. We can bring the horse to the water but we cannot make him drink, only the Spirit of God can take away scales from the eyes and heal the wounds of past pain and give a new heart. Our heart's desire and prayer to God for others is that they may be saved, and we preach over and over the plain Gospel that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Therefore continue in this intercession. Forsake not your own Friend and your Father's Friend, but keep close to Christ yourself while you wrestle for your friend. Ask that the Lord would grant him an encounter not with mere ideas but with the living Christ, that He would show him his need and show him the Friend of sinners who loves at all times, yea who loved before there was any time. Ask that the Lord would heal what has been broken and remove what is proud, that he may see his need and look unto Jesus and live.

May the Lord hear your cry and answer it in His own wise and gracious way, and may you be spared to see this friend bow the knee and trust in Him who alone can save. Keep praying, keep pleading, and keep setting Christ before him in word and life, for with God nothing is impossible.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
