Salvation from going blind

TONY MARTIN

Disciple of Prayer
Sister ### and brother ### have been told that they are going blind. They are both elderly people. May the Lord prevent them from going completely blind. ###.

We join you together in bringing your ### and ### before the throne of grace, asking for the Lord's mercy upon them in their old age as they face the fear of losing their sight. Our hearts are moved with compassion for them, and we stand with you in asking God to preserve their vision and to comfort them in this difficult trial.

We are reminded in scripture that Yahweh is the one who gives sight and who cares deeply for the elderly. Psalm 146:8 says Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind. Yahweh raises up those who are bowed down. Yahweh loves the righteous. And Psalm 103:2-3 says Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don't forget all his benefits; who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases. We also cling to the promise in Isaiah 46:4 where the Lord says even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs will I carry you. I have made, and I will bear; yes, I will carry, and will deliver. He has not forgotten them in their later years, and He is able to sustain and carry them even now.

We also notice your request asks that the Lord may prevent them from going completely blind, and we want to gently share that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and receive His healing and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. When we pray in the name of Jesus, we come through the One who died for our sins and rose again, and who also opened the eyes of the blind during His earthly ministry to show His divine power and compassion. If your ### and ### have not yet put their trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, we pray that this trial would also open the eyes of their hearts to see Him as Savior, for spiritual sight is the greatest healing of all. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

So together we pray, Father in heaven, we lift up this dear ### and ### to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. You know their names, their ages, and the diagnosis they have received. You formed their eyes and You see their fear and sorrow. We ask in Jesus name that You would have mercy and, if it is Your will, preserve their sight and prevent complete blindness. Lay Your healing hand upon them, guide the hands of their doctors, and grant wisdom for any treatment that may help. But even as we ask for physical healing, we ask for Your perfect will to be done, and for Your peace to guard their hearts. Comfort them in their old age, let them not feel forsaken, and remind them that You are near to all who call upon You. Open their spiritual eyes to see Your goodness, forgive their sins through the blood of Jesus, and give them assurance of eternal life with You where there will be no more pain or darkness. Strengthen their faith and the faith of those who love them, and help them to trust You day by day. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for them and to help them seek the best medical care available, trusting that God often works through physicians while remaining the ultimate healer. Continue to read scripture to them, especially the Psalms, and remind them that whether their eyes grow dim or remain clear, the Lord Himself is their light and their salvation, and He will never leave them nor forsake them.

We were moved that you brought your sister and brother to us in prayer. Hearing that both have been told they may lose their sight is a heavy burden, especially when they are older and so dear to you. We are praying with you for the Lord's mercy over them.

It is kind that you are watching out for them. In this season practical support means a lot. If you are able, going with them to their eye appointments, helping them write down what the doctor says and what follow up is suggested, and making sure they have help at home with light, safety and daily tasks can ease some of the fear while you continue to pray. Staying closely connected to their medical care is an important way to love them alongside prayer.

We do not know what the future holds for their vision, but we trust God sees them fully, knows their names and their needs, and is near to them in this uncertainty. You are not carrying this alone.

Father, we lift this sister and brother to You. Have mercy on them and protect what sight remains according to Your will. Give wisdom to those caring for them, peace to their hearts, and strength to this loved one who is interceding for them. Hold them all in Your care. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have received your tender burden for this aged sister and brother who stand under the dark fear of losing their sight, and our hearts are moved with compassion for them in their infirmity.

Intercessory prayer is the sweetest prayer God ever hears, and it is exceedingly prevalent with Him. What wonders it has wrought, and how it has stayed plagues and brought down blessings from on high. We will take up this cause and plead for them before the throne of grace, for prayer is a wondrous blender of hearts and to bear one another's calamities before the Lord is to show true love. Yet our prayer also shall be in their calamities, and if the answer tarry we will persevere in importunity.

Remember that the Lord will hear the prayer of a staggering man, even the prayer that seems to have no order in it because the petitioner is at his wit's end. So that a true prayer from one who is near unto the gates of death is a prevailing prayer. They were a long while before they prayed, but He was not a long while before He answered. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. When the Sun of Righteousness rises upon His people with healing in His wings, pardon and healing are found together in happy conjunction.

Let us therefore pray. O Lord our God, remember Thy word unto Thy servants. Thou art the Good Physician whose healing virtue has never failed. Look in pity upon this sister and this brother in their advanced years, when the light of the eyes grows dim and the heart trembles at the thought of darkness. If it be Thy gracious will, prevent them from going completely blind, and spare to them yet the precious gift of sight by which they behold Thy creation and read Thy word. Lay Thy pardoning and healing hand upon them, for Thou healest the sick of palsy and sayest, Thy sins are forgiven thee. Grant them, above all earthly sight, the clear eye of faith to behold Christ, that though the outward eye should fail, the inward eye may be bright with the light of Thy countenance. Give them patience in affliction, comfort in the low dungeon of fear, and the assurance that Thou art very pitiful and hast compassion upon Thy people in their misery. Hear the cry of those who love them and plead Thy promise, and answer not always as we expect, but as Thy wisdom and mercy know best. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom alone is salvation and healing. Amen.
