Salvation for my stepfather ###

Shalom, My stepfather, ###, has unfortunately not yet been born again; he tends to mock rather than genuinely inquire or reflect. I have no contact with him, but God wants me to pray for him. Could you please help me by praying that God draws him, softens his heart toward the Gospel, and sends him the right "harvester"—someone from whom he would be willing to receive the message? Could you also pray that God grants him a spirit of wisdom and revelation, as well as the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus? Could you also pray that, by His grace—paid for by the blood of Christ—God restores to him everything that the devil, death, and sin have stolen from him, in the name of Jesus? Thank you so much!!! We join you in lifting up your stepfather before the throne of grace and we thank you for your faithfulness to pray for him even though you have no contact with him. It is the heart of God that none should perish and we know He has placed this burden on your heart for a purpose.

We are reminded that no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws him, as it is written in John 6:44, No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and we pray that the Father is even now drawing him by His Spirit. Though he now tends to mock rather than genuinely inquire, we know God is able to soften even the hardest heart. We pray that God will give him a new heart and put a new spirit within him as promised in Ezekiel 36:26, A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. The Lord is not slow concerning his promise but is patient toward us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9, and we cling to that patience and mercy for your stepfather.

We also pray as you asked for a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, that the eyes of his heart may be enlightened, Ephesians 1:17-18, and that God will grant him repentance and the gift of the Holy Spirit, for it is the Holy Spirit who convicts the world of sin and leads us into all truth. We ask the Lord of the harvest to send the right harvester into his life, for the harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest, Matthew 9:38. We ask that God will send someone whose voice he will hear, someone he respects and will receive, so that faith may come by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ, Romans 10:17.

We pray too for restoration by the grace paid for by the blood of Christ. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, Ephesians 1:7, and we ask that what the enemy has stolen, what sin and death have taken from him, would be restored by that same grace. For the thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly, John 10:10, and God has promised I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, Joel 2:25.

We pray together now in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear stepfather to You. We ask that You draw him to Yourself, soften his heart toward the Gospel, and remove any hardness, cynicism or mocking spirit. Grant him a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, open the eyes of his heart, and pour out Your Holy Spirit upon him. Send the right laborer across his path, a true harvester appointed by You, whose words he will hear and receive. Forgive his sins through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross, grant him repentance and new birth, and by Your grace restore to him all that the devil, sin and death have stolen, for Your glory. We thank You that You hear our prayers and that You desire his salvation. We trust him into Your merciful hands and we will continue to contend for him in prayer. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue steadfast in prayer for him, even from a distance, knowing that God hears and that your prayers avail much. Keep sowing in prayer and trust that God is at work in ways you cannot yet see. May the Lord bless you and strengthen you as you intercede for him.

We were touched reading your request for ###. It says a lot that even without contact and even when his response has been mocking, God has put him on your heart and you are choosing to intercede for him. That is faithful love.

We hear your specific prayers and we join you in them, asking the Lord to soften his heart toward the gospel, to draw him gently to Himself, and to bring a person into his life he can actually hear, a harvester he will trust. We also join you in asking for wisdom and revelation and for the work of the Holy Spirit in his life.

One thing that helps us when praying for a loved one who seems far off is remembering salvation is ultimately God's gracious work in the heart. We cannot change another person, but we can keep bringing them before the One who can. That frees us to pray steadily without carrying a burden God has not asked us to carry, and to trust His timing and His ways of reaching ###.

If it helps, you might keep a simple rhythm of prayer for him, brief and regular, entrusting him to the Lord each time and leaving the results with Him.

Father, in Jesus name we lift ### to You. Draw him to Yourself, soften his heart, send someone he will listen to, and open his eyes to Your truth and grace. Pour out Your Spirit on him and in Your mercy restore what sin and brokenness have taken. We trust him to Your loving hands. Amen.

Your earnest prayer for your stepfather is heard with thankfulness, and we will join you in laying this burden before the throne of grace.

It is a tender and Christlike thing that you should pray for one who mocks rather than inquires, and with whom you have no present contact. The Lord remembers such prayers, for salvation is His greatest work, and in that work He teaches us that He is God and beside Him there is none else. His own word is, Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth.

We will pray that the Lord by His sovereign grace will draw him. That He will take away the heart of stone out of his flesh and give him a heart of flesh, that He will soften his heart toward the Gospel and open his eyes to see his need of Christ. Faith must be urged, for without it there is no salvation, and the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. What is believing on Him but trusting in Him, looking unto Him and being saved. How simple and how instantaneous is that way of salvation.

We will pray also as you have asked, that God in His providence will send to him the right harvester, some faithful labourer in the harvest whom he will hear, for the Lord often calls an individual and uses him to bring others into the Gospel net. And we will pray that God will grant him a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, and pour out His Holy Spirit upon him, for only the Spirit can make the cross of the Savior precious to the soul and write the law of God upon the heart.

And we will pray for that perfect restoration of which the prophet speaks, that the blessed processes of regeneration and sanctification may begin in him if he believes in Christ, and that by grace paid for by the blood of Christ, God would restore unto him the joy of His salvation and all that sin and death and the devil have stolen and broken. He is able to make a wanderer as though He had never cast him aside, and to make him to hear joy and gladness.

Continue steadfast in prayer, even at a distance. Salvation is by Divine Grace through faith in Christ Jesus alone, without money and without price, and it is irreversible when the soul is committed into His hands. May the Lord grant you to see this mercy, and may He keep you kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. We commend your stepfather to Him who is the only salvation, for to see Jesus is to see salvation itself.
