Salvation For Lost Souls and Church Growth

1 Pray that lost souls in my city ( ###) that the Holy Spirit may bring deep conviction of sin and that people may repent and turn away from wickedness. 2 Pray for my congregation that the Holy Spirit may grant us His heart of compassion for the lost souls and that our evangelism campaigns may yield results of souls leading to church growth.

We join with you in this burden for the lost and for the growth of the church, and we thank God for the compassion He has already placed in your heart for your city and your congregation.

We are encouraged by your desire to see the Holy Spirit bring deep conviction of sin, for Jesus Himself taught that when He has come, He will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment John 16:8. Apart from that convicting work, no one sees their need for a Savior. We also rejoice that you long to see people repent and turn away from wickedness, which reflects the very heart of God, for the Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9.

We notice your prayer mentions the Holy Spirit and repentance, and we want to gently remind us all that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that any soul can be saved and that we have access to the Father. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. So when we pray for conviction and repentance, we are praying that the Spirit would point people to Jesus, to believe on Him, confess their sin, and receive new life, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. That is the hope we carry into every evangelism campaign.

We also stand with you in praying for your congregation, that God would give you His heart of compassion for the lost. We are reminded that when Jesus saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them Matthew 9:36, and we pray He would do the same for us, taking away any stony heart and giving a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. We pray that your evangelism efforts would be faithful to the Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Matthew 28:19, and that God would give the increase. For it is God who gives the growth 1 Corinthians 3:7, and we desire not mere numbers but true conversions, disciples who continue in the Word and in fellowship.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our only Savior. We lift up this city before You and ask that Your Holy Spirit would move powerfully across it, convicting hearts of sin and of the need for righteousness through Christ. Lord, open eyes that are blinded, soften hearts that are hardened, and grant the gift of repentance that leads to life. Draw many to turn from wickedness and to call upon the name of Jesus and be saved.

We pray for this congregation, that You would fill us all with Your compassion for the lost. Stir us to pray more fervently, to love more deeply, and to speak the gospel more boldly and clearly. Anoint every evangelism campaign, every conversation, every invitation, and every message preached, that it would be spoken in truth and love and empowered by Your Spirit. Bring forth fruit that remains, add to Your church daily those who are being saved, and build Your church for Your glory. Raise up laborers for the harvest and keep us faithful, humble, and prayerful. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue steadfast in prayer and in sowing the seed of the Word, knowing that the harvest is plentiful and the Lord of the harvest hears. Keep preaching Jesus Christ crucified and risen, keep loving your neighbors, and trust God for the results in His perfect timing.

We were encouraged to read your prayer for your city and for your congregation. It is a beautiful thing to carry both a longing for neighbors to know Christ and a desire for your church family to love them well.

We hear how much you want to see real repentance and lasting growth, not just a moment of interest. In our experience that love often grows best through simple, faithful introductions. An evangelist is not only the gifted speaker on a platform, any believer can introduce a friend to Jesus by listening well, sharing what Christ has done personally, and staying present over time. Campaigns can sow and water, but God often uses the quiet process of trust built in everyday relationships to soften hearts.

One small step that has helped other congregations is for each person to quietly choose two or three people in their daily life to pray for by name each day and to look for a natural way to show care this week, a conversation, a meal, practical help. That keeps compassion personal and prayer focused as you plan larger outreach.

Father, we lift this city and this church to You. Stir deep conviction and draw many to repentance and new life in Christ, and fill Your people with Your compassion and boldness. Bless the evangelism efforts before them and cause whatever fruit You desire to remain, for Your glory. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your burden and we join you in prayer before the throne of grace, for there is nothing that more becomes the people of God than a heart that watches for souls.

We pray for your city, that the Holy Spirit who alone can convict of sin and of righteousness and of judgment may work with deep and abiding power upon the hearts of those who are yet lost. May He strip away the deceitful whisper of Satan which says, Not now, time enough, and awaken slumbering souls to see their danger. We ask that many may be brought to look unto Christ and be saved, for this is the simple method of salvation, Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. There is no other way, for salvation is by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus alone, and the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. May the Lord grant true repentance, that men and women may turn from wickedness and trust wholly in Him whose person is salvation itself, a salvation without money and without price, yet secure beyond hazard to all who commit their souls into His hands.

We pray also for your congregation, that the Lord may grant you His own heart of compassion for the lost. Our principal business must always be watching for souls, and we ask that He may make you earnest and tender, not living for self but for His Church and for His glory. May He anoint your evangelism campaigns, not to gather mere numbers, but to see souls truly converted through the preaching and hearing of the Word, for that is God's appointed way of saving souls. May the Word be with power, and may those who hear rejoice in His salvation, saying with the psalmist, I will rejoice in thy salvation, knowing it is God's salvation, planned by Him, provided by Him, and applied by His Spirit.

We beseech the Lord to add to your number such as shall be saved, that wise men may be confounded and all may know that He is God and beside Him there is none else. May He keep you faithful to preach over and over the plain Gospel, and may He grant you the joy of seeing the lost found and the Church built up in love and holiness, to the praise of His glorious grace.
