I am not sure what you mean by your 'other half' is? Does it mean he is your boyfriend as you have stated that you are not married?
If he is just your boyfriend, then we got to see what does Jesus say on this issue. As you know Jesus is an understanding and loving Person and so whatever Jesus says in His word (Bible), we must then take His word very seriously, right? If so, it will be good for you to check what Jesus has to say about your situation then.

“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
