We join with you in prayer for this man and his family and we commend you for recognizing that salvation is not a small obstacle to your wedding but the very foundation upon which a godly marriage must be built.
We understand your desire for marriage and for a good life together, and it is right and honoring to God that you are waiting and not moving forward while he remains outside of Christ. The Word tells us Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity Or what fellowship has light with darkness 2 Corinthians 6:14. To enter into marriage, which is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman as God designed from the beginning Genesis 2:24, Mark 10:9, with one who does not believe is to be divided at the deepest level of life. Can two walk together, unless they have agreed Amos 3:3. A wife and husband are called to spur one another toward Christ, to pray together, to raise children in the fear of the Lord, and that cannot happen if one does not know the Lord. We encourage you to remain in courtship with the goal of marriage only if he becomes a brother in Christ, and to guard your purity before marriage, for marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. We urge you both to flee from fornication, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18, and to keep yourselves pure until the wedding day if it is God's will to bring you together as husband and wife.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that any prayer is heard. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Salvation comes when we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead Romans 10:9, being born again John 3:3 by grace through faith. This is what we long for for this man and his family, not merely that a wedding can take place, but that they would have eternal life, for God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:4 and is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9.
So we pray together with you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace. We lift up this dear man and his entire family to You. We ask that You open their eyes to see their need for a Savior, that You soften their hearts to hear the gospel, and that You draw them by Your Holy Spirit to repentance and faith in Jesus. Lord, grant that this man would confess Jesus as Lord, believe that You raised Him from the dead, and be born again into Your family. Save his household, Lord, as You have promised to work in families who seek You. We pray that if it is Your will, You would make him a man after Your own heart, ready to love a wife as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her Ephesians 5:25.
Father, we also lift up this courtship. We ask for Your wisdom and strength for our sister as she waits. Help her to trust in You with all her heart and not lean on her own understanding, and in all her ways acknowledge You so You will direct her paths Proverbs 3:5-6. Guard her from compromise and from rushing ahead of Your timing. If this man comes to genuine saving faith and walks faithfully with You, we pray You would then bless their wedding and establish their marriage on the rock of Your Word, that their home would be filled with love, which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:14, and that they would delight themselves in You Psalm 37:4. But if he continues to reject Christ, give her the courage to remain obedient to You and to release this relationship, trusting that You have good plans for her.
We ask all of this in the precious and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to share the gospel with him in love and with reverence, to live before him and his family as a testimony of Christ, to pray fervently for them, and to seek counsel from mature believers and your pastor as you discern this courtship. Trust the Lord's timing, remain steadfast in prayer and in purity, and know that God will honor your obedience as you seek first His Kingdom.
