Sad

Thank you for sharing so honestly about feeling down after being mistreated by several people. That kind of hurt is real. When people use their words or actions to put you down or take advantage of you, their wrongdoing does wound you. It is not imagined, and God sees it.

In times like this the nights can feel very long, and discouragement can settle deep. Scripture speaks of God as the one who gives songs in the night, and that is His heart toward you now. He is not waiting to hurt you or to punish you for feeling low. He is for you, not against you, and He wants to keep you from what brings deeper hurt and to give you what is truly good. Your sorrow matters to Him, and He does not turn away when you bring tears and honest emotion to Him. There is nothing wrong with feeling deeply before God and being moved as you seek Him.

At the same time, emotions alone cannot satisfy the deeper thirst inside. That thirst in your spirit is a thirst for God Himself. No material thing and no passing emotional experience can fill it. Jesus invites anyone who is thirsty to come to Him and drink, and that is where lasting refreshment is found. A powerful experience with God can be wonderful, but what remains and sustains you is building your life on His Word. When faith rests on what God has said, it holds steady even when feelings rise and fall, and feelings do shift quickly, from laughter to tears and back again.

One of the psalm writers knew this kind of heaviness and spoke to his own soul, asking why he was so cast down and then telling himself to hope in God. You can do the same in prayer, not pretending the pain is not there, but turning your heart toward Him and saying, God, I will hope in You. Prolonged sorrow can even wear down the body, so please be gentle with yourself, rest as you are able, and stay near to the Lord and to His promises each day.

I am praying for you, that God will lift this heaviness, heal the wounds left by how others have treated you, give you His song in the night, and quiet your heart with His love. May He draw you close as you come to Jesus to drink, renew your strength through His Word, and surround you with His presence and with people who will treat you with kindness and truth. May He remind you day by day that He is with you, He is for you, and He will be your hope. In Jesus name, amen.
