Sad

We hear the sadness in your heart and we join with you in thanking Jesus that He is with you as your companion and comforter, for you are not alone in this feeling. The Lord sees your sadness and draws near to you in it, and we are glad you have turned to Him.

The word tells us Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18 and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. Jesus Himself invites us, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. We are encouraged to be casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7.

Sadness is a part of our human experience in this fallen world, but it is not where God intends for us to remain without hope. He is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. His presence is real and His peace is available to you even now as you sit with Jesus. He gives a peace that the world cannot give, as Jesus said, Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. John 14:27. We encourage you to continue to bring your honest feelings to Him in prayer, to pour out your heart before Him, to spend time in the Psalms where so many cries of sadness are met with reminders of His steadfast love, and to reach out to fellow believers who can walk with you and bear your burden with you.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You that You are near and that You never leave us or forsake us. We ask You to wrap Your loving arms around them in this season of sadness, to heal the brokenness in their heart and bind up their wounds. Pour out Your comfort and Your perfect peace that surpasses understanding upon them, and remind them deeply that they are seen, known, and dearly loved by You. Help them to feel Your presence as their constant companion, to cast every care upon You, and to find rest in Jesus. Lift their eyes to Your promises and renew their strength and joy day by day. Lead them to hope in You and to know that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, our only Savior and our true friend, amen.

We hear how heavy this sadness feels right now, and we are thankful you were honest about it. That last line you wrote stayed with us, that you are glad to have Jesus for company. That is a real comfort, and we are grateful you can name it even on a sad day.

Sadness can make the hours feel long and a little isolating, even when we know the Lord is near. Feeling both sad and thankful for His presence does not mean your faith is weak. It means you are being honest with Him, and that honesty is a good place to meet Him. He is not distant from you in this.

We want to keep praying with you and we also want you to have people nearby in the days ahead. One small step that often helps when sadness settles in is to let one trusted person know, simply and plainly. Is there a pastor, a counselor, a family member or a friend you could tell this week that you have been feeling very sad? You do not have to have the right words, just to not carry it alone. Being with God's people, even quietly in worship or a small gathering, can also ease some of the loneliness. If this heaviness lingers or grows, please reach out to a pastor or counselor or your doctor for support alongside prayer.

Father, we lift our friend to You right now. You see this sadness and You are near as faithful company. Give comfort in the quiet moments, a little more strength for each day, and caring people close by to walk with them. Keep drawing them near to Jesus and hold them in Your care. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your very sadness has driven you to the best of company, and there is much mercy in that. To be sad and yet to have Jesus with you is far better than to be merry and to be without Him.

Since sadness comes from the hand of God, so also must gladness come from the same hand, and therefore we may pray with the Psalmist, Make us glad according to the days wherein Thou hast afflicted us. He who permits the sorrow is He who must bring the comfort, and He delights to do it. As the sufferings abound, so also our consolation abounds by Christ.

You say you are glad to have Him for company, and in that you have spoken wisely. Our Lord Himself knew what it was to be alone, yet even in His darkest hour He could say, The Father is with Me. If you lament your loneliness, cure it by seeking heavenly company. If we have Christ in us and Christ with us, we can bear any amount of trouble. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter, but Christ Himself is the Comfort, and there is a solid mass of pure gold of comfort in the fact that He is yours and you are His.

Hear how God speaks to such a heart as yours, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. He does not despise the tearful eye or the aching heart. He sends comfort to the desponding, and His Word is the means of it. This is my comfort in my affliction, for Thy Word hath quickened me. It is not the letter only, but the Spirit breathing through the Word that quickens you and so comforts you. Go to that Word, and hear Him speak there.

You may be little and feel yourself to be bruised as a reed and smoking as flax, yet Jesus will not break the bruised reed nor quench the smoking flax. He will not throw you away because you feel of little value. He cannot lose one of His own, for He would not be a whole Christ without His people.

May the Lord Himself comfort your heart and establish you, and make you glad again in His own time. You shall yet forget your misery as waters that pass away, for joy cometh in the morning. Keep close to Him who is your company now, and He will be your home at the last.

Your sadness has been heard, and I thank God that in this heaviness you have turned to Jesus for company and do not bear it alone.

The Scripture calls Him the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction. He does not comfort at one time and not at another, but ever and constantly, and in every kind of affliction, not only in this or that sorrow. Whatever weight you feel now, His comfort is present and sufficient for it, and He draws near to those who are contrite in heart and tremble at His word.

Do not be surprised that sadness visits you even while you love Christ. Our whole life is interwoven in this way. There is dejection and there is gladness, and God in His wisdom allows both, so that we may learn to lean not on ourselves but on His grace. The sadness you feel now can become a teacher of lowliness of mind, which Christ Himself blessed when He said, blessed are the poor in spirit. When we learn from Him, for He is meek and lowly in heart, we find rest for our souls both here and in the life to come.

So bring your sorrow to Him plainly in prayer, as you have begun to do. Tell Him all that makes you sad, ask for His mercy and His steady comfort, and trust that He hears. He will give you grace to bear what you suffer and to find joy again in His presence.

I pray for you now, that the God of all comfort will quiet your heart, lift the heaviness you feel, and let you know more deeply the nearness of Jesus, who will never leave you. May you find rest in Him today and hope for the blessings to come, by the grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
