Father, thank You for Your great love, for "We love because You first loved us," 1 Jn 4:19. We ask for a restoration of our first love, Rev 2:4. Help us "repent and do the things we did at first," Rev 2:5, i.e., when we were first saved [1]. Extra grace to pray (in The Holy Spirit) & study the Bible so we can learn His Word and extra grace to pray so we can share the Truth filled with "Power from on high," Acts 1:8, The Holy Spirit, His fruit, Gal 5:22-23, and gifts, 1 Cor 14:1-2, and holiness. Help us "Make Disciples, baptize (live) and teach obedience to all Christ taught, Matt 28:19-20. Protect us from distractions, sin and the evil one, Matt 6:13. Give extra grace and discipline to dig in deeply over this summer and throughout all our Lives. Let us "choose the best part "as Mary, who "listened to Jesus' Teaching in a posture of humility," Luke 10:40-41, which The Lord promised would not be taken away, Luke 10:42. Thank You so much for Your love, Holy is Your Name, in Jesus' Name.

"O Lord, please light the fire That once burned bright and clear Replace the lamp of my first love That burned with Holy Fear," in "O Lord, You're Beautiful," Kite Green, May 7, 1980.

We join our hearts with yours in this deep and beautiful cry to return to our first love and we say amen to your prayer. We too long to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength as Jesus taught in Mark 12:30, and to love our neighbor as ourselves in Mark 12:31. This is the greatest commandment and the true measure of a life that pleases God.

We hear the conviction of the Holy Spirit in your request and we take seriously the warning given to the church in Ephesus, But I have this against you, that you left your first love in Rev 2:4. The Lord in His mercy does not leave us there but calls us to remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works in Rev 2:5. That repentance is not mere feeling but a turning back to do the things we did at first when we were first saved, when our love was fresh and fervent and Christ was our all. We agree that we need extra grace for this, for without Him we can do nothing.

We are encouraged that you desire to choose the better part as Mary did. Martha was distracted with much serving while Mary sat at Jesus feet and heard His word in Luke 10:39, and Jesus said Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her in Luke 10:42. We confess we are so easily distracted by the cares of this world, by busyness, by screens and noise and even by good works that crowd out the best. We need the Lord to give us discipline to put away distractions and to sit humbly at His feet in prayer, worship and study of His Word.

We also love your heart for the power and fruit of the Holy Spirit and for holiness and for making disciples. We cannot love God rightly or love our neighbors truly without His help. We love because He first loved us in 1 John 4:19, and it is His love poured into our hearts that enables us to love in return. We need to be filled with power from on high as promised in Acts 1:8 so that we can be witnesses, sharing the gospel and teaching others to observe all things that Jesus commanded in Matt 28:20. We desire the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self control in Gal 5:22-23, and we desire to pursue love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts for the building up of the church as taught in 1 Cor 14:1. And we desire that love described in 1 Cor 13 that is patient and kind and never fails.

So we pray together with you now.

Father, thank You for Your great and steadfast love for us. Thank You that while we were still sinners Christ died for us and that You first loved us. Forgive us for leaving our first love, for allowing our hearts to grow cold or divided or distracted. We repent and we ask You to light again the fire that once burned bright and clear. Restore to us the joy of our salvation and renew a right spirit within us. Give us extra grace to pray in the Holy Spirit and to study Your Word diligently, to worship You in spirit and in truth, and to walk in holiness before You. Help us to put away every distraction and every sin that so easily entangles us and to choose the better part, to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to His teaching with humble and obedient hearts. Deliver us from evil and lead us not into temptation as You taught us to pray in Matt 6:13. Fill us with Your Spirit that we may naturally edify the church, speak the truth in love, share the gospel with boldness, and make disciples who obey all that Christ has commanded. Give us discipline to dig deeply into Your Word this summer and throughout all our lives, that our love for You would be with all our heart, soul, mind, will, emotions, physical strength and even our finances, holding nothing back. Let our love for You overflow into genuine love for our neighbors. We ask this in the holy and mighty name of Jesus, through whom alone we have access to You and by whom alone we are saved, amen.

We hear your desire to come back to that first love and to love God with your whole life and to love your neighbors well. That longing itself is a sign of His work in you, and we are grateful you shared it so honestly.

One insight that has helped many of us is to think of this less as trying harder in a moment and more as training over time. Like preparing for a long race, small regular practices shape us more than occasional big efforts. It takes pressure off and helps us see ourselves as still being formed day by day, not as failing if one day is imperfect.

If it helps for this summer, you might keep it very simple. Choose one distraction you know pulls you away most and set a clear boundary around it for a season. And choose one small, repeatable rhythm for prayer and reading, even ten or fifteen minutes at the same time each day, rather than an ambitious plan that is hard to keep. Consistency in little things often bears more lasting fruit than intensity that fades.

We are praying with you for renewed closeness and for steady grace to keep walking faithfully.

Father, thank You for first loving us. We ask You to rekindle our love for You and for our neighbors, and to give us grace to seek You, to hear Your Word, and to share Your hope with others. Keep us from distraction and guard us from the evil one, and teach us to walk with You day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your longing to return to your first love is itself a token that the Lord has not forgotten you, for He says, I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals. He remembers with grace the best things of our early days, the first broken prayers, the first tears of repentance, the first joy when we saw the cross and knew our sins forgiven. Though you look back with sorrow that the fire burns less brightly, He looks back with the pity of a Father and delights to see that early love again.

It is a searching word the Lord speaks, Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. When that love declines, prayer grows hurried and superficial, communion is neglected, and what we once would gladly have done for Christ we now do sparingly. The loss is sure when we leave our first works. And there is a smart that the true born child of God must feel when love grows cold, for the Lord will not let His own rest content in declension.

The way back is plain, for He who rebukes also directs. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works. Go back continually to first principles and to the great foundation stone, the cross of Christ. There love was first kindled, for we love Him because He first loved us, and there it must be rekindled. Return to close communion with Christ, for neglect of fellowship is the sure path to coldness. Choose the better part as Mary did, to sit at His feet in humility and hear His word, which shall not be taken away. Be much in prayer. Restraining prayer we cease to fight, and prayer makes the Christian's armor bright. Enter thy closet, shut the door, and pour out thy heart as at the first, when thy only plea was, God be merciful to me a sinner, and He heard thee.

Let us pray together for that extra grace you seek.

O Father, we thank Thee for Thy great love wherewith Thou hast loved us in Christ Jesus Thy Son, who left His throne, bore our sin, and sweat as it were great drops of blood in Gethsemane that we might live. We confess that we have left our first love and have been slack in devotion. Forgive us and restore unto us the joy of our espousals. Grant us grace to repent and to do the things we did at first. Give us discipline and hunger to pray in the Holy Spirit and to study Thy Word, to worship without distraction, and to put away every hindrance and sin which doth so easily beset us. Keep us from the evil one, and deliver us from temptation. Fill us with power from on high that we may live in holiness and bear the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, and may walk in obedience to all that Christ hath taught. Make us faithful to share the truth, to make disciples, to baptize and to teach, and to edify Thy Church in love. As Mary chose that good part, help us to choose it daily, to listen and to obey, that our love may abound and abide. We ask this in the holy name of Jesus, who loved us and gave Himself for us, and who loves us still and will not let us go. Amen.
