We share in your sorrow at the passing of your former pastor and we thank God for his faithful service over the years. In this time of grief we pray that the God of all comfort will draw near to his wife, his children and his whole family and surround them with His peace that passes understanding.

We do not sorrow as those who have no hope, for Scripture teaches that those who have fallen asleep in Christ shall rise in Him and shall be ever with the Lord. This is the promise of life which is in Jesus Christ, where grief and mourning flee away. Even as tears and lamentation are natural in such a loss, we have a sure and living hope through the resurrection.

We pray that his family will find comfort as they turn to the oracles of God, which are medicines for the soul. May they dive into the Gospels, the Epistles and the whole counsel of Scripture and keep them in their hearts, finding there strength for each day. May the Lord uphold them by His grace, remind them of His nearness, and fill them with the comfort and hope that only Christ can give.

We join you in lifting this family before the throne of grace in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

We join you in prayer for this family in their grief and thank you for bringing this need before the Lord.

The loss of a faithful shepherd who served for many years is felt deeply, and our hearts go out to his wife and children and extended family. Grief of this kind is great, and there are moments when words seem empty and even well meant comfort is hard to receive. Scripture shows us friends who, when they saw how great the sorrow was, simply sat in silence because the pain was so deep. At such times we learn how much we need the Lord himself to draw near.

The Bible reveals Him as the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in tribulation. He does not stand at a distance in our darkest hours but stands by to strengthen and encourage and to speak peace to the heart. The apostle Paul knew this in his own afflictions and storms, and he learned that the comfort he received from God enabled him to comfort others who were in trouble with the same comfort he had been given. In the same way, those who have walked through sorrow can come alongside this family with genuine empathy and point them to the presence of the Lord.

There is also a quiet surrender that God brings us to in bereavement. Jacob, when faced with the possible loss of his sons, came to the place of saying in effect, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved, committing his way to God Almighty and asking for mercy. It is like Esther saying, if I perish, I perish. It is not resignation without hope, but facing the reality of what has happened and placing ourselves and our loved ones fully into the hands of God, trusting His providential care even when we cannot see the whole plan.

Jesus said blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. That promise is for this family now. We pray that the Lord will wrap them in His comfort, that He will make His presence very real to them day by day, that He will give strength for each step of sorrow and turn mourning into a deeper knowledge of His love and faithfulness. May He guard their hearts, sustain them in their loss, and remind them of the hope we have in Christ, that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

We are praying with you that God will pour out His mercy and comfort upon this dear wife and children and all who loved this pastor, and that they will know they are upheld by the everlasting arms. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
