Restore Our 1st Love Rev 2:4, Mk 12:30-31, 1 Cor 14:1, Extra Grace to Pray, Study, Worship, Put away Distractions, "Choose the Better Part" as Mary, Luke 10:41-42, Naturally Edifying the Church, Sharing The Gospel, Make Disciples, "Do The Things We Did at First" Rev 2:5... Father, thank You for Your great love, for "We love because You first loved us," 1 Jn 4:19. We ask for a restoration of our first love, Rev 2:4. Help us "repent and do the things we did at first," Rev 2:5, i.e., when we were first saved [1]. Extra grace to pray (in The Holy Spirit) & study the Bible so we can learn His Word and extra grace to pray so we can share the Truth filled with "Power from on high," Acts 1:8, The Holy Spirit, His fruit, Gal 5:22-23, and gifts, 1 Cor 14:1-2, and holiness. Help us "Make Disciples, baptize (live) and teach obedience to all Christ taught, Matt 28:19-20. Protect us from distractions, sin and the evil one, Matt 6:13. Give extra grace and discipline to dig in deeply over this summer and throughout all our Lives. Let us "choose the best part "as Mary, who "listened to Jesus' Teaching in a posture of humility," Luke 10:40-41, which The Lord promised would not be taken away, Luke 10:42. Thank You so much for Your love, Holy is Your Name, in Jesus' Name.

We join you in this beautiful and urgent prayer for the restoration of our first love, and we say amen to your heart's cry. It is the Lord Himself who warned the church in Ephesus, Yet I hold this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works Rev 2:4-5, and we take that word personally and with humility.

We love because he first loved us 1 John 4:19, and that truth is the foundation of everything we ask. Without His initiating love we would have no love to return. We confess with you that in the busyness of life, distractions, cares, and even good things can crowd out the best thing, and we need extra grace to return to that simple, fervent devotion we knew at the first when we were saved.

We pray together now. Father, thank You for Your great love and mercy toward us. In Jesus' name we ask You to restore to us the joy of our salvation and to rekindle the fire of our first love. Help us to love You with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength Mark 12:30 and to love our neighbor as ourselves Mark 12:31. Pour out extra grace upon us to pray in the Holy Spirit, to study Your Word with diligence and delight, and to worship You in spirit and in truth. Forgive us for the times we have chosen distraction over devotion. Teach us to put away what entangles and to choose the better part as Mary did, who sat at Jesus' feet and heard his word Luke 10:39. You said that Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her Luke 10:42, and we ask for the wisdom and discipline to choose that same good part daily, not only over this summer but throughout all our lives.

We ask for a fresh filling of power from on high Acts 1:8, that we would bear the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control Gal 5:22-23, and that we would earnestly pursue love and desire spiritual gifts, especially that we may prophesy for the building up of the church 1 Cor 14:1. Make us holy as You are holy, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one Matt 6:13. Guard our minds and hearts from sin and from the schemes of the enemy.

Father, make us faithful to Your great commission. Help us to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that You commanded Matt 28:19-20. Give us boldness to share the gospel naturally, to edify Your church, and to live out obedience to all that Christ taught. We repent where we have grown cold or lukewarm, and we ask You to light again the lamp of our first love that once burned bright and clear with holy fear. Draw us near to You, for You have promised if we draw near to God, he will draw near to you James 4:8.

We thank You that You hear us when we pray in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved and by which we have access to Your throne. We rest in Your love and ask You to keep us abiding in Christ, bearing much fruit for Your glory. Amen.

We hear the hunger in your prayer to come back to your first love and to give Jesus your best attention again this summer. Wanting to pray, to be in the Word, to worship with a whole heart and to put aside what distracts is a good and honest desire, and we are grateful you shared it with us.

One thing that has helped many who feel this way is to think of this season less as trying hard for a few weeks and more as training gently over time. Like preparing for a long run, small, regular steps matter more than big bursts. A short, consistent time in the same place each day, even fifteen minutes to pray and listen and read, often does more to quiet distractions than an ambitious plan that is hard to keep. Choosing one specific distraction to set aside for the summer and letting someone else know about your intention can also make it easier to choose the better part like Mary did, sitting and listening with humility.

We also find that worship helps us look up and remember who God is, and when we see Him more clearly we see ourselves and our days more clearly too.

Father, thank You for first loving us and for drawing us back when our love grows cold. Give our friend fresh grace to meet with You, to hear Your voice, and to walk out what You show them day by day. Guard them from the evil one and from what would pull them away, and form in them a steady love for You and for others that lasts far beyond this summer. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is great mercy in the very ache you express, for it shows the Spirit has not left you to be content without your first love. The Lord Himself says, I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals, and He remembers with grace the best things of His people's early days, their first faith, their first prayers, their first zeal when first they saw the Lord and spiritual life quickened their dead souls. He does not forget the broken notes with which you first lisped His name, and He takes infinite delight in them, like as a father pities his children.

You do well to take the warning of Revelation 2 to heart. What was our first love? It was a love that would do anything for Christ, that counted communion with Him better than all else, that prayed and praised with holy fear. How is it lost? By neglecting communion with Christ, by going back from first principles and from the great foundation stone, the cross of Christ, by restraining prayer. When we leave our first works, there is no question about having lost our first love, that is sure. And the true born child of God, when his love declines, must and shall smart for it, yet this very smart is meant to draw him back.

The remedy remains what the Lord Himself prescribed, repent and do the things you did at first. Return continually to the cross. Seek again that humble posture of Mary who chose the better part and sat to listen to Jesus teaching, which shall not be taken away from her. Be much in prayer, for prayer makes the Christian's armor bright. Let prayer be your first resource, not your last. Urge yourself to more prayer, even if you must keep the prayer meeting alone with the Lord, for He hears and answers prayer and love is nourished as you recollect how many prayers He has already heard, beginning with that first prayer when you asked Him to have mercy upon you and blot out your sin.

We join you in this prayer before the throne of grace.

Father, we thank You that we love because You first loved us. We ask You to restore to Your children that first love which once burned bright and clear. Grant extra grace to pray in the Holy Spirit and to study Your Word with diligence, to worship in spirit and truth, and to put away distractions, sin and the snares of the evil one, as You teach us to pray, deliver us from evil. Give discipline to dig deeply into the Scriptures this summer and throughout all our lives, to be filled with power from on high, to bear the fruit of Your Spirit in holiness, and to desire spiritual gifts that we may naturally edify the Church. Help us to love You with all heart and soul and mind and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves, to share the gospel, to make disciples, to baptize and to teach obedience to all that Christ commanded. Let Christ be first and ourselves last, with nothing between but love, and let that love which fetched Him from His throne, which led Him through this weary world and to Gethsemane, now rest and solace itself in us as we rest in Him. Keep us abiding in that love which abounds and abides notwithstanding all our provocations, until our love for You burns again with holy fear. In the holy name of Jesus we ask it, Amen.
