🔥 Restore Our 1st Love Rev 2:4, Mk 12:30-31, 1 Cor 14:1, Extra Grace to Pray, Study, Worship, Make Disciples, "Do The Things We Did at First" Rev 2:5

Your prayer rises from a place of deep hunger, and that hunger itself is evidence of grace already at work. To long for a restoration of first love is to feel the pull of the Shepherd calling you back to the place where devotion burned bright and undivided. That is not something you can manufacture by sheer effort. Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” The love we need is not something we pump up within ourselves; it is the fruit of abiding in the Vine. And it begins with a fresh sight of His love for us. We love because He first loved us. His love for you is supreme, self-sacrificing, and unwavering. As you fix your gaze there, something real begins to stir in response. Not duty. Not guilt. Love answering love.

Yet the pull of many things competes for that prime place in the heart. Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me more than these?” He was probing not just for affection, but for supremacy. What edges Him out? Old attachments, lesser loves, the quiet pull of comfort or distraction. The Ephesians had sound doctrine and busy hands, but they had left their first love. The Lord’s remedy was not to try harder in the same rut. It was to remember from where they had fallen, to repent, and to do the works they did at first. That pattern still holds. Repentance is not groveling; it is a decisive turning from whatever has muscled its way onto the throne. Then, walking back into the simple, life-giving rhythms: prayer that waits on God, Scripture that saturates the mind, worship that re-centers the soul, and the witness of lips that speak the testimony of Jesus.

Prayer, in particular, is not a lever to move God’s arm against His will. It is opening the door to let Him accomplish what He has been desiring to do all along. He will not force Himself past our will, but when we consent in prayer, we align ourselves with His purposes. And His purposes are full of power. The early believers in Ephesus, when they received the Holy Spirit and were grounded in the Word, saw extraordinary things happen. The gospel spread, lives were changed, and the works mirrored what happened at Pentecost. That same Spirit is alive in you. Ask Him for the grace to pray in the Spirit, to study the Word not as a chore but as a meeting place, and to move outward with the same self-giving love that marked Christ. The best part, like Mary at Jesus’ feet, is not taken away because it flows from a living connection to Him.

As you walk this out, guard against the subtle trap of self-love that masquerades as wisdom or fierce independence. Real love lays itself down. It gives. It does not demand its own way. In a culture that repackages lust as love and self-interest as authenticity, the command to love one another as Christ loved us cuts against the grain. But that is exactly the kind of love that proves our friendship with Him. It is the love that keeps His commandments, not out of gritted teeth, but out of a heart that has been captured by His grace. And His grace is fully sufficient for the fight. When your own strength runs out, His does not. When you see how far you have to go, He does not condemn. He gives more grace to the humble.

So return to the things you did at first. Not as a grim effort to recover lost feelings, but as a child coming home to the fire that still burns in the Father’s heart. The lamp of first love can burn clear again, not because you are able, but because He is both the fuel and the flame. Let prayer be the daily “yes” to whatever He wants to do. Keep yourself in His love by staying in the light, and let that love overflow in sharing the gospel and strengthening others. He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.

We are deeply moved by your heartfelt cry for the restoration of your first love for the Lord, and we are honored that you allowed us to stand with you in prayer these past days. Your request has been laid before the throne of grace, where we have interceded for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit’s fire in your life—igniting passion for prayer, the Word, worship, and the Great Commission.

We have prayed that the Lord would rekindle in you the same fervor you knew when you first believed, when your love for Christ burned brightly and your devotion was unshaken. We asked Him to grant you extra grace to dig deeply into His Word, to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, and to bear His fruit in every area of life. We stood in agreement with you for protection from distractions, discipline in spiritual habits, and a renewed hunger to make disciples as Christ commanded.

If the Lord has already begun to answer this prayer in your life—if you sense His presence stirring your heart, drawing you back to Him, or opening doors for deeper study, prayer, or ministry—we rejoice with you! Please share a praise report so we may celebrate His faithfulness together.

If, however, you are still waiting and longing for that breakthrough, do not grow weary. We encourage you to post this request again, and we will continue to lift you up, trusting that God is at work even when we cannot yet see it. He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.

May the Lord bless you with fresh encounters of His love, wisdom, and power as you seek Him with all your heart. May you choose the "best part," like Mary, sitting at Jesus’ feet in humble adoration. And may the fire of your first love burn brighter than ever, drawing others to the Savior. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
