šŸ”„ Restore Our 1st Love Rev 2:4, Mk 12:30-31, 1 Cor 14:1, Extra Grace to Pray, Study, Worship, Put away Distractions, "Choose the Better Part" as Mary, Luke 10:41-42, Naturally Edifying the Church, Sharing The Gospel, Make Disciples, "Do The Things We Did at First" Rev 2:5... Father, thank You for Your great love, for "We love because You first loved us," 1 Jn 4:19. We ask for a restoration of our first love, Rev 2:4. Help us "repent and do the things we did at first," Rev 2:5, i.e., when we were first saved [1]. Extra grace to pray (in The Holy Spirit) & study the Bible so we can learn His Word and extra grace to pray so we can share the Truth filled with "Power from on high," Acts 1:8, The Holy Spirit, His fruit, Gal 5:22-23, and gifts, 1 Cor 14:1-2, and holiness. Help us "Make Disciples, baptize (live) and teach obedience to all Christ taught, Matt 28:19-20. Protect us from distractions, sin and the evil one, Matt 6:13. Give extra grace and discipline to dig in deeply over this summer and throughout all our Lives. Let us "choose the best part "as Mary, who "listened to Jesus' Teaching in a posture of humility," Luke 10:40-41, which The Lord promised would not be taken away, Luke 10:42. Thank You so much for Your love, Holy is Your Name, in Jesus' Name.

"O Lord, please light the fire That once burned bright and clear Replace the lamp of my first love That burned with Holy Fear," in "O Lord, You're Beautiful," May 7, 1980.

[1] Oddly enough, the Ephesian Church Jesus addresses there has a historic precedent in Acts 19:1-5, After a slightly comical exchange between Paul and the "believers" at Ephesus, He asks them if they'd received the Holy Spirit when they came to faith. Their answer is "We haven't even heard The Holy Spirit exists!" They'd come to faith through Apollos who'd only been familiar with The Scriptures and the Baptism of John (The Baptist). After receiving the Baptism of The Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands, (foundational teaching, Heb 6:1-2), the 12 all speak in tongues and prophesy! In Acts 19:8-12, after a time of battle over the Word of God in the Synagogue, Paul sets up "The School of Tyrannus," a seminary of sorts, and the revival there so mirrors the Early Church after The Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-6:7 in so many ways, it's noteworthy. They remained under the teaching of the Apostles, the Word spread, the church grew and extraordinary miracles confirmed the message of Jesus was The Word of God. Let us remember to "keep ourselves in the love of God by praying in The Holy Spirit which edifies us in our most holy faith," Jude 1:20-21. Let us express that love through prophecy (edifying, comforting, exhorting and sharing the testimony of Jesus), 1 Cor 14:1-3, Rev 19:10. This is an example (from Ephesus -- the church Jesus hand picked to tell us to return to our 1st love through by emulation of the works they did at first as we repent from anything we shouldn't be doing contrary to doing this as the best part, Luke 10:42, loving The LORD, our God, YHWH, with all our heart, soul, mind and strength -- and loving our neighbors as ourselves, Mk 12:30-31. May our love abound with all knowledge and true discernment so we may always see and choose the highest good, Phil 1:9-10. May God add blessing to His Word, in Jesus' Name, thank You and you all, Amen 2 Cor 1:20...

We hear your cry for restoration, the longing to return to the fervent love for the Lord that once burned brightly in your heart. The words of Revelation 2:4-5 weigh heavily upon us: "But I have this against you, that you left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works." This is not merely a call to nostalgia but a divine summons to rekindle the fire of devotion that marked your early walk with Christ. The Ephesian church, though commended for their perseverance and doctrinal purity, had lost the warmth of their first love. Even so, the Lord did not leave them without hope, He called them to repentance and renewal.

You are right to seek the "better part," as Mary did in Luke 10:42, choosing to sit at Jesus' feet rather than be distracted by lesser things. The Lord Himself declared that this posture of humility and attentiveness would not be taken away. Yet how easily we allow the cares of this world, the lure of comfort, or even the busyness of "serving" to crowd out the simplicity of loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). The command to love God wholly is not a suggestion, it is the foundation of the Christian life. Without it, even our most noble deeds become hollow.

We must also address the critical role of the Holy Spirit in this restoration. The Ephesian believers in Acts 19 had received only the baptism of John, not the fullness of the Spirit. When Paul laid hands on them, they received the Holy Spirit, spoke in tongues, and prophesied, signs of the Spirit’s empowering presence. This is not a secondary experience but a vital one. Jude 1:20-21 exhorts us to "keep yourselves in God’s love, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit." Praying in the Spirit edifies us, strengthens our inner man, and keeps us rooted in God’s love. Without this, our love for Him grows cold, and our works become self-reliant rather than Spirit-led.

We rebuke the spirit of distraction and lukewarmness that seeks to steal your devotion. The enemy would have you believe that prayer, study, and worship are burdens rather than privileges. But 1 Corinthians 14:1 commands us to "pursue love and desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy." Prophecy, speaking forth God’s heart to edify, comfort, and exhort, is an outflow of love. It is not reserved for the elite but is the inheritance of every believer who walks in the Spirit. If your love has grown dim, it is time to return to the disciplines that fan the flame: fervent prayer, the study of God’s Word, worship in spirit and truth, and fellowship with the body of Christ.

We also lift up the call to make disciples, as commanded in Matthew 28:19-20. A love for God that does not overflow into love for others is incomplete. The early church in Acts 2 devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers, and the Lord added to their number daily. Revival is not merely an emotional experience; it is the fruit of a people wholly given to God and His purposes. If you have grown weary in well-doing, remember Galatians 6:9: "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up."

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts heavy for the loss of first love in Your people. We confess that we have allowed distractions, sin, and the cares of this world to dull our devotion to You. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have prioritized lesser things over You. Restore to us the joy of our salvation, the passion of our early faith, and the fire of Your Spirit within us. We ask for a fresh outpouring of Your grace to pray without ceasing, to study Your Word with hunger, and to worship You in spirit and truth.

Lord, we repent for the works we have done in our own strength, without love as the motivating force. Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit, that we may walk in power, holiness, and the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Teach us to pray in the Spirit, that we may be built up in our most holy faith. Let Your love abound in us with all knowledge and discernment, that we may approve the things that are excellent and be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ (Philippians 1:9-10).

We choose today to return to our first love. Like Mary, we sit at Your feet, listening to Your voice. Like the Ephesians, we lay aside every weight and sin that so easily entangles us, and we run with endurance the race set before us (Hebrews 12:1). Empower us to make disciples, to share the gospel with boldness, and to edify the church with the gifts You have given us. Protect us from the evil one and from every distraction that would draw us away from You.

Father, light the fire that once burned brightly in our hearts. Let it consume every area of our lives, our thoughts, our words, our actions. May our love for You be evident to all, and may it overflow into love for our neighbors. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and through which we have access to Your throne of grace. To You be all glory, honor, and praise, now and forever. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
