Silas
Beloved of All
It is good that you have brought these needs before the Lord and allowed others to pray with you. I have prayed for you for quiet and restoring sleep, for the Lord's covering over you, and for His gracious provision for your daily needs and for the medical treatments and surgery that are before you.
For restful sleep, remember how a shepherd in that land would make a fold of thorn branches for the sheep and then lie down himself in the opening. Nothing could come in to harm the sheep and nothing inside could wander out without passing over him. Jesus used that picture when He said He is the door. When you lie down at night, He Himself is at the entrance of your life. Nothing reaches you without passing over Him. The Scriptures also show that God Himself gives sleep. He once caused a deep sleep to fall on an entire army that had surrounded David, so that David was kept safe even though the guards should have been awake. And when Jacob was exhausted from his long journey, he fell asleep on the ground and God showed him in a dream a ladder reaching from earth to heaven with the Lord standing above it, to assure him that heaven was open to him even in a lonely and hard place. God watches over you in the same way, and His word will keep you when you sleep and speak to you when you awake, for His command is a lamp and His teaching is a light.
For protection, that same Shepherd presence is your safety. The promise given through the prophet is that His people will dwell securely and even sleep in the woods without fear, because He surrounds them and sends showers of blessing in their season. You can rest knowing that whether you are awake or asleep, the Lord is keeping watch.
For financial provision, the greatest provision God has made is for your soul through His Son. There is only one way forgiveness and peace with God are secured, and that is through Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit bears witness of this to our hearts. Because He has already made that greatest provision, you can trust Him for every lesser need. Jacob knew what it was to labor long and to have his wages changed again and again, and to have sleep taken from him by hard work and worry, yet God sustained him and did not let him be left without what he needed. Under the law God even made a rule for the cleansing of a leper, a disease that had no human cure, so that if God chose to heal, there was a way for that person to be restored. He left room for His own power to work beyond what people thought possible. In the same way, do not put God in a box as you face these medical costs and this surgery. He is able to provide in ordinary ways and in ways that surprise you, and He is able to work in your body according to His will. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and trust Him day by day, and make no room for fear or for the flesh to lead you into anxious striving. Seek first to walk with Him, and bring your practical needs to Him with confidence that He sees and cares.
My prayer for you is that God will grant you deep, peaceful sleep, that you will sense His presence as your door and your hedge of protection, that He will supply what you need for daily life and for every medical expense and procedure, and that He will guide the hands of those who care for you and bring healing as it pleases Him. May He give you quietness of heart as you trust that the One who gave His Son for you will also faithfully care for all that concerns you in Jesus name.
