Rest

Thank you for sharing this need for rest before your important appointment. I am praying with you that the Lord will give you quiet sleep now and bring you through your appointment with His care over every detail.

The Scripture speaks of a perfect peace that God keeps over those whose minds are stayed on Him, because they trust in Him. Jesus told His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world cannot give this kind of peace, and it cannot understand it. It is the peace of God that guards the heart and mind, and it flows from first having peace with God through the blood of Jesus Christ. When we are no longer at war with God but have been reconciled to Him through Jesus, that inner war is quieted and we can know a deep rest.

God wants you to live in that peace. He has ordained peace for His people and His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace. That peace comes as you turn your mind toward Him. As you lie down to nap, try to set your thoughts on Him and entrust both your rest and your appointment into His hands. He is able to take care of what concerns you, and resting in that trust is itself a restful experience.

May the Lord quiet your thoughts, grant you refreshing sleep, and watch over you as you rest. Even in sleep He is present and faithful, as He was with Jacob when he lay down exhausted and saw the Lord standing above the ladder that reached to heaven. The Lord is near to you now.

I pray that the Lord will give you deep and restoring rest, calm any anxiety, and go before you into your appointment. May He grant you His peace that passes understanding, guide every step and decision, and let all turn out according to His good will. May you know His presence and care in a very real way, and may His peace keep your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name, amen.
