Request for tackling cleaning

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Lord Jesus Christ,
I come to you for an unusual help. I’ve neglected my duty to do the basic cleaning in my rental. Ending up with alot of mold that I need to clean up. Now tackling the leaky pipe that I ignored and failed to report for weeks & it has now gotten worse that I shut off the main water valve. I want to be able to tackle the cleaning and temporarily seal the leakage so I at least can scrape off as much of the mold as I can before I report to my landlord. I am on my own on this. I have a fear that my landlord will kick me out due to not maintaining. This leak has always been as far as I can remember.

I know I can tackle this one bathroom to clean off the mold & work on the rest of the house before I can reach out to my landlord to permanently fix.I praying for strength and will to clean the messes that I am dealing with now.

I know this is a wake up call to finally act, but I am scared that I will not have a home if I am kicked out. I am praying for help and the energy to start scrubbing.
Amen.

We hear the burden and fear in your heart and we join with you before the Lord Jesus Christ to seek His strength, wisdom and mercy in this difficult situation. You have been honest about neglecting your duty to care for your rental and to report the leaky pipe, and we thank God that you are now seeing this as a wake up call to act.

Scripture reminds us that stewardship matters to God, even in small things. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23 and He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much Luke 16:10. The place you rent has been entrusted to you, and caring for it decently and in order 1 Corinthians 14:40 is part of honoring God and honoring the agreement you have with your landlord. We also are called to walk in truth, for Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight Proverbs 12:22 and Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor Ephesians 4:25.

We want to lovingly correct the plan you mentioned to temporarily seal the leak and scrape off as much mold as you can before reporting to your landlord. We understand the fear of being kicked out, but trying to clean and cover the problem first so the landlord does not see the full extent is not honest and could put your health and your housing at greater risk. Mold is not just dirt to be scraped, it can be harmful to breathe and can spread if disturbed without proper protection, ventilation and care, and a leaking pipe that has been left for weeks needs proper repair, not just a temporary seal. The most God honoring and also the wisest course is to tell the truth fully and promptly, to confess that the leak has been there and that you failed to report it, and to ask for help and forgiveness. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9, and that same humble honesty is what we are to extend to those we have responsibilities to.

Your fear about losing your home is understandable, and we bring that fear to the Lord with you. Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10 and For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. We are told In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. God sees your need for a home and He is able to give you favor with your landlord even as you tell the truth.

We encourage you to act today rather than delay further. Turn the water back on only as needed and contact your landlord promptly with honesty about how long the leak has been present and that mold has formed because it was not reported. Take photos to document what you see, do not try to hide it, and ask what steps he wants you to take. For your own safety, do not dry scrape large areas of mold without a proper mask, gloves, eye protection, and ventilation, and understand that extensive mold often requires professional remediation that is the landlord's responsibility to arrange. Ask God for wisdom, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat Proverbs 13:4, so we pray God will exchange discouragement for diligence and help you take one small faithful step at a time, perhaps one bathroom at a time, while not on your own but inviting help from a trusted believer, church community, or family if possible.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You that You hear us when we call. We lift up this dear one who is overwhelmed by the mess and the mold and the broken pipe, and by fear of losing housing. Lord, forgive where duty has been neglected and where reporting was delayed, and cleanse and restore this heart that now wants to do what is right. Grant repentance and honesty, and give courage to speak the truth in love to the landlord without delay or deception. We ask for Your strength to begin the cleaning in a safe and orderly way, for energy when weary, for protection from harmful mold, and for wisdom to know what can be cleaned and what needs professional help. Provide the resources for repair and remediation, and grant favor and mercy with the landlord, that communication would be met with understanding rather than harsh judgment. Guard health and give peace that surpasses understanding, and remind us that You will supply every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Help us to be faithful stewards of what You have entrusted to us, working as unto You, and to trust You with our home and our future. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only access to You and our only hope of salvation, amen.

We hear how heavy this feels, wanting to do the right thing now, feeling scared about what the landlord might think, and facing a mess that grew while you were overwhelmed. It makes sense you would feel anxious and tired at the thought of starting.

We admire your honesty in wanting to take responsibility and your desire for strength to begin. Trying to do it all alone and all at once can keep you stuck, so it can help to make it smaller and safer.

A next step that may serve you well is to prioritize your health and get the right help in quickly. Mold and a persistent leak are usually more than a surface cleaning job, and scraping a lot of mold without proper protection and ventilation can be hard on your lungs. If you can, keep the water shut off as you have, open windows for air flow, wear a mask and gloves if you must be in the room, and reach out to your landlord sooner rather than later with a brief, honest note about the leak and that you want it fixed properly. Landlords often would rather hear early so a small repair does not become a bigger one, and photos and a written record can show you are acting in good faith now. If you have any breathing trouble, cough, or other symptoms, please see a medical professional alongside prayer.

For the cleaning itself, setting a short, timed period for one small area and then stopping can make starting less daunting than trying to finish the whole bathroom at once.

Father, in Jesus' name we ask You to give our friend peace in this fear, energy for each small step, and wisdom for conversations with the landlord. Provide safety in his home and help him know You are with him as he takes these next steps. Amen.

Your honest confession before the Lord is heard, and it is a good and hopeful sign that you see this as a wake up call and desire strength to act rather than to hide.

You have spoken plainly of neglect, of a leaky pipe long ignored and not reported, and of mold that has now spread. In this you have touched upon a great truth of stewardship. Nothing that is entrusted to us is our own, it is all our master's. A rental home is such a trust. We can very much injure our stewardship by idling, or trifling, or growing careless, or leaving our hearts out of our work, and when we fall into a loose and slovenly way of acting it is to our own discredit and to our Master's dishonor. To see this now, though painful, is mercy, for it leads to amendment.

And you have also spoken of fear, fear that you will lose your home, and of feeling alone and without strength to scrub and to set things right. Human strength is of many kinds, but in any form it will spend itself in due time. All strength apart from God is derived strength and must come to an end. But the word of promise stands, They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. When there remains no strength in you, nor any ability of any kind, then fling yourself upon the Divine strength and lay hold upon it. The Lord Himself says, I will strengthen them, and therefore it will be fitly infused and wisely balanced. It is not to your credit to remain weak when God is ready to make you strong. Wait upon Him in prayer, and He will lay His hands upon you and say, Be strong, fear not.

Concerning fear, hear the Lord's own command which runs through all Scripture, Fear not, for I will help thee. Fear is painful, how it torments the spirit. Fear is weakening, and fear dishonors God, as if the arm which piled the heavens could not sustain you in this trial. You must labor to get rid of fear, not by pretending the consequences are small, but by trusting promised strength. Believe God's strength and then act in obedience.

That obedience now calls you to faithful and honest stewardship. It is understandable that you wish to scrape and clean before your landlord sees the trouble, yet to temporarily seal and to cover what should be plainly seen would be to trifle with the truth and to mar your stewardship further. The faithful course is the honest course. Shutting off the main valve when the leak worsened was wise. The next faithful step is to report the matter promptly and plainly, confessing that the leak was not reported for weeks and asking for help to make a permanent repair. You need not have the house perfect before you speak. Take photos, write down when you first noticed the leak and the mold, and tell your landlord humbly and directly. After you have reported, then tackle what you can safely clean, as you are able.

Ask the Lord for that renewed strength to do both duties, the duty of truth and the duty of work. Pray for diligence to clean, for humility to confess, and for trust to leave the outcome in God's hands. He can give you favor, and He can provide a home, even as He provides strength for the heavy oar you now must pull.

For your safety as you clean, use care. Open windows, wear a mask and gloves if you have them, do not mix cleaners, and do not disturb large areas of mold without guidance. If you are alone, ask whether a trusted friend, family member, or local help agency might come alongside you for an hour. To seek help is not shameful, it is part of waiting upon the Lord through the hands He provides.

Let us pray for you.

Lord Jesus Christ, Thou seest this child of Thine who has come with an open heart, confessing neglect and asking for help. Thou knowest the fear of being without a home, and the weariness at the sight of the mold and the broken pipe. Forgive what has been left undone, and create a new desire for faithful stewardship. Renew strength according to Thy promise, for this one has no might apart from Thee. Grant energy to the body and willingness to the spirit to scrub and to clean what can be cleaned with care. Grant courage to speak honestly and promptly to the landlord, without concealment, and to do what is right in Thy sight. Cast out tormenting fear, and fulfill Thy word, Fear not, for I will help thee. Provide what is needed for shelter and for health, and let this trial become a turning toward diligence and peace. In Thy mercy, help and keep, for Thy name's sake. Amen.

Be diligent in what is before you today, speak truthfully without delay, and wait upon the Lord for strength for each step. He who has begun to work in you to will and to do will not leave you to labor in vain.
