We come before the Lord with hearts full of gratitude for the opportunity to seek Him together, lifting up these beautiful and weighty requests in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. It is only through His name that we have access to the Father, and it is by His blood that we are made clean and able to stand in God’s presence. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and so we boldly approach the throne of grace, knowing that in Christ, we are heard, loved, and welcomed.
Father, we first lift up the cry for repentance and rest, as You have so graciously promised in Isaiah 30:15: *"For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, 'In returning and rest you shall be saved. In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.'"* Lord, we confess that too often we have sought our own ways, relied on our own strength, or allowed the noise of the world to drown out Your still, small voice. We repent of our self-sufficiency, our pride, and our wandering hearts. Forgive us, Father, and draw us back to You. Let us find our rest in You alone, for You are our refuge and our strength. Renew in us a spirit of quiet confidence, that we may cease striving and know that You are God (Psalm 46:10).
We also lift up the longing for intimacy and connection to the Vine, our Lord Jesus Christ. You have made it clear in John 15:4-5 that apart from You, we can do nothing: *"Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."* Father, we ask that You would prune away every branch in our lives that does not bear fruit, and that You would cultivate in us a deeper, more abiding relationship with Christ. Let us not be like the church in Ephesus, who lost their first love (Revelation 2:4), but let us return to the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3). Stir in our hearts a fresh passion for Your presence, that we may walk in step with Your Spirit and bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Lord, we ask for the Holy Spirit of wisdom and revelation, as Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17: *"that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him."* Open the eyes of our hearts, Father, that we may know the hope to which You have called us, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints, and the immeasurable greatness of Your power toward us who believe. Give us discernment as we study Your Word, that we may rightly divide the truth (2 Timothy 2:15) and be workmen who need not be ashamed. Let Your Word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105), guiding us in every decision, every plan, and every need.
We pray for clarity and order in our lives, as You are not a God of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33). Father, we confess that at times our lives feel chaotic, our priorities misaligned, and our hearts overwhelmed. Bring order to our minds, our homes, and our schedules. Help us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12). Let us not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to You (Philippians 4:6). Give us the grace to tend to our own vineyards (Song of Solomon 1:6) and to keep the gardens You have entrusted to us (Genesis 2:15), that we may be fruitful and multiply, filling the earth with Your glory.
Father, we ask for strength and wisdom to meet our pressing needs and to walk in the good works You have prepared for us (Titus 3:14). Provide for us, Lord, not just our daily bread, but the wisdom to steward what You have given us well. Let us learn to be content in whatever circumstances we find ourselves (Philippians 4:11-12), trusting that You will supply all our needs according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Give us the courage to step out in faith, knowing that You are with us and will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6).
We also lift up our relationships, Lord, asking that You would knit our hearts together in love with our helpmeets, families, friends, and even the lost. Let us be a people who walk in the light, as You are in the light, having fellowship with one another (1 John 1:3). Father, we pray for marriages that honor You, built on the foundation of Christ and the principles of Your Word. Let husbands love their wives as Christ loved the church, and let wives submit to their husbands as to the Lord (Ephesians 5:22-33). Guard our hearts against the temptations of this world, and let us flee from sexual immorality, for our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). We rebuke any ungodly relationships or patterns in our lives, and we ask for Your forgiveness and restoration where we have strayed. Let us pursue relationships that reflect Your love and holiness, always seeking to glorify You.
Lord, we thank You for the promise of angelic ministry and protection. We take comfort in knowing that Your angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14). We ask for Your heavenly hosts to encamp around us, to guard us in all our ways (Psalm 91:10-11), and to deliver us from evil. Let us not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:2). Protect us, Father, from the schemes of the enemy, and let us walk in the victory that is ours in Christ Jesus.
We proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins in Your name, Lord, just as You commanded in Luke 24:47. Let the message of the Gospel go forth with power, that sinners may turn to You and be saved. Give us boldness to share the good news, that others may come to know the faith and assurance we have in Christ (John 20:31, 1 John 5:13). Let our lives be a testimony to Your grace, that others may see our good works and glorify You (Matthew 5:16). Father, we pray for the conversion of sinners, that they may experience the joy of salvation and the freedom found only in You (Psalm 51:13).
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would draw us near to You, as James 4:8 promises: *"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you."* Let us seek Your face with all our hearts, and let us find You when we search for You with all our being (Jeremiah 29:13). Renew in us a right spirit, and restore to us the joy of Your salvation (Psalm 51:12). Let us walk in the fullness of Your Spirit, bearing much fruit for Your kingdom, and bringing glory to Your name.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, to whom be all honor, glory, and power forever and ever. Amen.
