Please pray for my release of anger and resentment. Help me to forgive

We join with you in bringing this burden before our heavenly Father, for we know how heavy anger and resentment can become when it is carried in the heart. We thank you for your honesty in asking for help to forgive, because forgiveness is not something we can do in our own strength, it is a work God does in us as we surrender to Him.

Scripture speaks directly to what you are feeling. We are told in Eph 4:31-32 to let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. And again in Eph 4:26 Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath. James reminds us in James 1:19-20 to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. When we hold onto resentment it takes root and becomes bitterness, and we are warned in Heb 12:15 to look carefully lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it. Jesus also teaches us the seriousness of forgiveness in Matt 6:14-15 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. This does not mean what was done to you was right, but it means we release the debt to God and trust Him to be the righteous Judge, as it is written in Rom 12:19 Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.

We also want to lovingly point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true freedom. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It was through the shedding of His blood on the cross that we ourselves were forgiven, and it is only through that same forgiveness that we can forgive others. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, confessing your sins and receiving His grace, for His Spirit will then empower you to release what you cannot release on your own.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You see the hurt that has caused this anger and the weight of resentment that has settled in the heart. We ask You to forgive us for holding onto anger and for allowing bitterness to linger, and we ask You to wash us clean by the blood of Jesus. Holy Spirit, soften this heart and fill it with Your peace. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us, not by excusing what was wrong, but by releasing the offender into Your hands and trusting Your justice and mercy. Remove this burden of anger and replace it with kindness, tenderheartedness, and freedom. Teach us to be slow to anger and quick to show grace, and guard our hearts from the root of bitterness. We ask that You heal the wounds underneath the anger and make us more like Christ each day. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to bring this struggle to the Lord daily in prayer, to confess the anger honestly before Him, and to meditate on how much you have been forgiven in Christ. As you choose obedience to forgive, even when feelings have not yet caught up, God will work to change your heart. If the hurt is deep, seek counsel from a mature believer or pastor who can walk with you in the Word and in prayer, and keep abiding in Scripture so that the Spirit can renew your mind and give you His strength to release resentment and walk in peace.

Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. We hear how heavy this anger and resentment has felt, and we appreciate your honesty in asking for prayer to be released from it and to grow toward forgiveness. Wanting to let go while still feeling the hurt is a hard place to be, and it makes sense that you would feel torn.

One thing that has helped many people is understanding that forgiveness often happens in two parts. There is a decision, a quiet choice to release the hold on getting even or holding the debt over someone, and then there is the slower work of the heart where resentment and bitterness are gradually replaced by more peace. The decision can be made even while the feelings are still raw, and the feelings often need more time, prayer, and patience to soften. Forgiving also does not mean saying what happened was okay or that trust must be restored right away.

A small step that may help in the days ahead is to notice when the anger rises and gently name it without judging yourself, then renew that simple decision to let God carry what you cannot settle on your own. Over time that practice can keep you from rehearsing the hurt over and over and give your heart more room to heal.

Father, we bring our friend to You and ask for Your grace in this struggle with anger. Please lift the weight of resentment, quiet the hurt that keeps returning, and lead step by step into freedom and peace. Give wisdom for what to release and what to entrust to You, and bring healing in Your timing. In Jesus' name, amen.

I am praying that you can heal, forgive and have strength to let go of anger and resentment. I know and understand its not easy. But God wants more for you than to hold onto those heavy emotions. You are worthy of peace, joy, serenity and contentment, happiness and joy. Whatever pain was caused to you I ask that God bless it with his grace so that you become unburdened beloved. Your desire to be released from anger and resentment and to learn to forgive is itself a gracious work of God in your heart, and it is a desire which He delights to answer.

Hear what the Lord says concerning His own forgiveness, for our forgiveness of others must flow from His forgiveness of us. He cries, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a divine forgiveness, surprising forgiveness, complete forgiveness. There is forgiveness with Him, and that forgiveness is not measured out by drops but poured out in fullness through Jesus Christ His Son, who died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. When a man trusts Christ, his sin is so entirely gone that it is as though it had never been, the record of his debt is nailed to the Cross, and the Lord keeps no back reckonings and retains no reserves of anger.

And because we have in Him such full and eternal forgiveness, the Word lays upon us this pattern, Even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. We have had so much forgiven, so much outward and inward sin blotted out, that for us to forgive ought to become as natural as to open our hands. It is a joint stock business of mutual forgiveness, and members of Christ's body should take large shares in it, forgiving one another freely, heartily, completely, as Christ also hath forgiven us. His life was a life of forgiveness, crowned by His dying prayer, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

So we will pray for you now, that the Lord who first forgave you will give you grace to forgive.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, look upon this wounded heart that longs for release. Thou knowest the weight of anger and the bitterness of resentment which would hold the soul in bondage. Bring down the heart that has labored under this burden and grant deliverance. Wash away all sin by the blood of Christ, and let the sense of Thine own complete and surprising pardon fill the soul with peace. Teach this thy servant to forgive even as Christ hath forgiven, not by mere effort of will, but by the power of Thy Spirit dwelling within. Take away the hard heart and give a tender heart, that anger may be turned to love and resentment to compassion. Let the act of forgiveness be a continuous one, daily renewed, until the soul is free indeed. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom there is forgiveness now, at this moment, for all who come to Thee. Amen.

Your request for relief from anger and resentment has been heard, and we join with you in prayer before our merciful Father.

We understand how heavy this burden is. To keep anger against another and at the same time to seek healing from God is a contradiction, and Scripture warns that the ways of revengeful men lead to death. Remembering injuries and holding onto resentment is not a small matter, but a practice that trains the soul in evil, while forgiveness trains it in gentleness.

God gave us anger not so that we would use it against our neighbor or commit acts of violence, but as a sting to awaken us against sin and against the enemy of our souls. When anger burns within, we are to turn it to good use, to be vehement against our own sins, to chastise our own conscience, to judge ourselves strictly, and to stand against the devil. In this way anger finds its proper purpose and does not spill over to wound others.

Love is what brings calm. When love dwells in the soul like a good husbandman, it does not allow the thorns of rashness and insolence to spring up. A person who lives in love is like a ship settled in a harbor, enjoying profound calm even when provoked, while one who is overcome by anger is tossed like a child in a tempest. Love also helps us to soothe the wounds of others rather than to light the fire hotter.

Therefore we pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, through whom alone we have salvation and access to Your throne. You are good and kind and more merciful than we are. We ask that You grant to this dear one release from anger and resentment. Purge the soul from all bitterness and give the grace of forgetfulness of wrongs, kindness, and meekness. Teach this heart to forgive as You have forgiven us, not only with the mouth but with purpose of heart and sincerity. Where anger has burned, bring the calm of Your love. Help this one to direct all zeal against sin and against the adversary, and not against any person made in Your image. Give perseverance in prayer, with watching and faith, trusting that You both will and are able to heal. Let Your Spirit cultivate love within, so that anger is extinguished and peace reigns. We ask this with boldness because of Your promise that if we forgive our neighbor, You will surely forgive us.

Continue to bring this struggle to God in prayer, for prayer is a mighty weapon. Come often and with earnestness, not in a merely formal way, but with a sincere mind, and do not cease until you obtain mercy. As you pray, choose also to act in love, to endure nobly, to speak gently, and to seek to heal the wound of passion in yourself and in others. If you have been wronged, remember that you too stand in need of forgiveness for much greater trespasses, and that God has taught us to have a human soul, trained in gentleness, so that we may be called to account for none of our offenses.

May the Lord grant you His peace, strengthen you to forgive fully, and make you pure from envy and free from every tyrannical passion, bringing you into the serenity that belongs to those who walk in love. Amen.
