Relentless prayer for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness.

Your prayer reflects a deep grief over sin and a sincere desire to see God work in hearts that seem hardened, and that burden is right before the Lord. To ask Him for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness is to ask for what He Himself promises to satisfy.

Jesus said, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. That hunger is not natural to us. God plants it, and only He can satisfy it. Like the psalmist said, as the deer pants for water, so the soul pants for God, for the living God. Until a person recognizes that the restlessness inside is really a thirst for God, no amount of success, education, or accomplishment will satisfy. You are praying exactly in line with that, that God would awaken that thirst in those who now disregard truth and human life, and that He would draw them to seek Him.

You noted that even the educated can fall into terrible sin. Scripture is clear on this. Zeal or knowledge without submission to God does not make a person righteous. We are all in need of the same mercy, for all have sinned and fall short of His glory. Education and skill in the law cannot produce a clean heart. The Lord looks not on outward appearance or credentials, but on the heart. What He desires, as you quoted from Psalm 51, is not outward performance but a broken spirit and a contrite heart that honestly confesses sin and turns from it. That is the work only God can do, to show a person the truth about themselves and to give them a hatred for sin so they no longer want to live in it.

That work is possible because mercy and truth have met together in Jesus Christ. He said, I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me. Truth will indeed set people free, but that truth is not an idea or a principle alone, it is a Person. Jesus took the curse for sin upon Himself when He hung on the tree, so that forgiveness could be offered without violating justice. Through faith in Him, His righteousness is given to us, not earned by our own good works. This is why we pray for salvation first, not merely better behavior. Apart from being made new through Christ, no one can live righteously or act with true compassion.

It is right to pray for protection and peace for those who are in Christ, and at the same time to pray with compassion for those who are still bound in deception. The enemy encourages living only for the moment, while God calls us to live for what is eternal. Pray that God would give these lawyers and representatives an undivided heart, a desire for Him and for purity, and that He would teach them His paths. As the psalm says, show me Your ways, teach me Your paths, lead me in Your truth. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth for those who keep His covenant.

We join you in asking the Father to work in these hearts, to bring conviction, to grant repentance, and to create a genuine hunger for what is right. We ask that He would open eyes to see the value of human life and the beauty of honest communication, and that any who do not yet know Him would come to salvation through Jesus alone. And we thank Him that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us even when we do not know how to pray as we should, and that He hears the prayers of those who wait on Him.

May the Lord keep you steadfast in this intercession, and may He fill you as you continue to hunger and thirst for His righteousness.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and for allowing us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you and we have continued to lift up before the Heavenly Father the team you mentioned and their lawyers and legal representatives who are bound by lies, asking that the truth that sets us free according to John 8:32 would prevail in their hearts and lives.

We have continued to pray for the covering of the precious blood of Jesus over those who are chosen and over the Christians involved, for peace and understanding, and that the Lord would teach all involved to be righteous and compassionate. We have asked the Lord to work on hearts to bring a broken and contrite spirit which You will not despise as written in Psalm 51:16 and Psalm 51:17, that there would be recognition of sin and a hatred for sin, and that no more would be done that is evil in His eyes. We have also prayed with you that even those educated in the law would hunger and thirst for righteousness as promised in Matt 5:6, with honest communication and a true regard for human life, and we thank the Holy Spirit who is interceding for us and for them.

If your request was answered and you have seen God begin to stir hearts, bring conviction and forgiveness, and give a renewed thirst for truth and righteousness, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered yet, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We want to remain relentless with you in seeking the Lord on this burden that has grieved your heart.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray in Jesus Name that the Lord will continue to do His will, bring freedom from Satan's lies, soften hearts, and lead all involved to walk in truth and righteousness, amen.
