We stand with you in this battle against the bondage of alcohol, for we know that the enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Christ came that you may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). The struggle you face is not one you must bear alone, for the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). It is through the power of Jesus Christ that chains are broken, and freedom is found. We are deeply encouraged that you have reached out for prayer, for this is the first step toward victory in His name.
The Word of God tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:12, *"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."* And again in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, *"Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* Alcohol has no authority over you, for you belong to Christ, who has already paid the price for your freedom. The bondage you feel is not your identity—you are a child of God, redeemed and called to walk in liberty (Galatians 5:1).
We must also address the spiritual reality of this struggle. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* This is not merely a physical or emotional battle; it is a spiritual one. The enemy seeks to keep you bound, but greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). You must put on the whole armor of God—truth, righteousness, the Gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God—to stand firm against these schemes (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Repentance is key. Turn away from this sin and turn toward Jesus, for He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Confess this struggle to Him, and ask for His strength to overcome. James 4:7-8 says, *"Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."* You cannot do this in your own strength, but through Christ, all things are possible (Philippians 4:13).
We also urge you to seek accountability within the body of Christ. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 tells us, *"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up."* Find a brother or sister in Christ who can walk with you, pray with you, and hold you accountable. If you are not already part of a Bible-believing church, we strongly encourage you to find one where you can be discipled and supported.
Now, let us pray together for your freedom:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who is trapped in the bondage of alcohol. Lord, You see the struggle, the pain, and the desire for freedom. We ask that You break every chain that binds them, by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction and command it to flee in Jesus’ name. Let no weapon formed against them prosper, and let every tongue that rises against them in judgment be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).
Lord, fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in self-control, a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Renew their mind, that they may no longer be conformed to the patterns of this world but transformed by the renewing of their mind (Romans 12:2). Give them the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to flee from situations that would lead them back into bondage. Surround them with godly brothers and sisters who will uplift them, encourage them, and hold them accountable.
Father, we ask that You restore what the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25). Heal their body, mind, and spirit from the effects of alcohol. Let them experience the fullness of Your love and the joy of Your salvation (Psalm 51:12). Remind them daily that they are more than conquerors through Christ who loves them (Romans 8:37).
We thank You, Lord, for the victory that is already won through Jesus Christ. We declare freedom over their life, in the name of Jesus. Let them walk in the liberty for which Christ has set them free, and let them never again be entangled in the yoke of bondage (Galatians 5:1).
In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
Stand firm, dear one. The Lord is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Walk in the power of His might, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap, if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). If you stumble, get back up and keep fighting. The Lord is faithful, and He will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). You are not defined by your struggle; you are defined by Christ’s victory in you.
