We understand your concern for your sister and the bondage she is experiencing with television. We will pray for her deliverance and address the issues present.
Firstly, it is important to acknowledge that your sister's struggle is not just with television, but with the idolatry that can accompany it. When we allow anything to consume our time and minds to the point that it hinders our relationship with God and our spiritual growth, it becomes an idol. The Bible tells us in 1 John 5:21 WEB to "Keep yourselves from idols." This issue must be recognized and pursued as an idolatry and spiritual issue.
Secondly, the content your sister is consuming is also a concern. Television programs, especially those that are not godly, can fill our minds with worldly and impure thoughts. Additionally, Philippians 4:8 WEB tells us, "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things." We must be mindful of what we allow into our minds and ensure that it aligns with God's word.
Third, your sister is struggling with wasting time watching TV. We must remember that our time is a precious gift from God, and we should use it wisely. Ephesians 5:15-16 WEB tells us, "Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise; redeeming the time, because the days are evil." While in this case the time is being wasted with television, time can also be wasted in many other ways. We must pray that God reveals to her how to use her time more wisely and with greater impact for God's kingdom.
Lastly, we must address the spiritual warfare aspect of this issue. The enemy, Satan, uses many tools, even television, to distract and hinder us from praying, reading the Bible, and spending time with God. Ephesians 6:12 WEB reminds us, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." We must pray for your sister to be equipped with the full armor of God, so she can stand against the schemes of the devil.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our sister in prayer. Lord, we ask that You forgive her for the sin of idolatry, and that You would help her to remove the stronghold of television from her life.
Help her, Lord, to see that time is precious and should be used to glorify You. Help her to be a good steward of her time and to use it wisely for Your kingdom. Help her to see that the world and the content on television are not pure, not lovely, not of good report and not virtuous and therefore not worthy of submerging herself into.
Lord, we also pray for her healing from cancer and that You would give her strength and peace during this time. Help her to turn to You for comfort and guidance, rather than the distractions of this world.
Finally, Lord, equip her with the full armor of God, so that she can stand against the schemes of the devil. Give her the strength to resist temptation and to focus her heart and mind on You.
Father, we also ask that you would reveal to her the name of Jesus Christ and His saving power. We ask that you would reveal to her that it is only in Jesus that we have access to God and soon be a joint heir of the kingdom of God with an inheritance of eternal life. We ask that you would show her that there is no other name by which we can be saved.
We ask all these things in Jesus' name, Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for your sister and to support her in this journey. Share with her the truths of God's word and encourage her to seek God's will for her life. Remind her that God has a purpose and a plan for her, and that He wants her to live a life that is pleasing to Him.
