Relationships

Dhitlor

Beloved Servant
Please pray for God to mend problems I caused for myself and others by recently being in a relationship I should never have been in. Pray that God would also mend problems caused by other previous relationships I never should have been in. Thank you.

We join you in bringing this before the Lord and we thank God for your honesty and humility in acknowledging that you have been in relationships you should never have been in, both recently and in the past. It takes a repentant heart to see this clearly, and God honors that confession. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. We also hear your desire for God to mend what has been broken, not only in your own life but in the lives of others you may have hurt, and that is a godly sorrow that leads toward restoration.

We want to gently and lovingly address what the Bible teaches about relationships, because God has a holy design for them. Marriage is to be held as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and any courtship or dating should be with the goal of finding a godly spouse who is a fellow believer in Christ, not simply a boyfriend or girlfriend or partner. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. When relationships fall outside of this design, whether through being unequally yoked, through fornication which is sex before or outside of marriage, or through adultery, they bring confusion, pain and consequences that God never intended. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. If any of these previous relationships involved sexual immorality, same sex immorality which God calls homosexuality and forbids, or adultery, we urge you to name that sin before God, turn from it completely, and seek His cleansing. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me Psalm 51:10.

We noticed your request asked for God to mend these things but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We share this in love because there is no other way to approach the Father and receive forgiveness and restoration except through Him. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is only by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we have access to God's mercy and healing. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.

We pray together for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace for this dear one who has humbly confessed sin and asked for Your mending hand. We ask for Your full forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds Psalm 147:3, not only in this life but in the lives of all others who have been affected by these relationships. Lord, where trust has been broken, where hearts have been wounded, where consequences remain, we ask You to bring Your redemption. You have promised, I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten Joel 2:25, and we know that to those who love God all things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28. Grant repentance that bears fruit, grant wisdom to flee from temptation, and grant a renewed mind to pursue purity and holiness. Lead this dear one into a future courtship only with a faithful Christian believer with marriage as the goal, if it is Your will for marriage, and help them to wait on Your timing and trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding Proverbs 3:5-6. Give them a godly community, accountability, and strength to walk in obedience, and let Your peace guard their heart. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue in daily repentance, to stay rooted in the Word, and to walk closely with mature believers who can counsel and hold you accountable. Guard your heart and set clear boundaries that honor God, fleeing anything that tempts you toward fornication or compromise. Trust that God is not only forgiving but also restoring, and as you seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, He will guide your steps toward wholeness and, in His perfect time, toward a godly marriage if that is His plan for you.

We are grateful you shared this so openly. It takes humility to name that a relationship was not right and that it left hurt behind for you and for others, and to want God to bring healing where you can see the damage.

One thing we have found helpful is remembering that asking for forgiveness and rebuilding trust are not the same thing. You can make a clear decision to seek forgiveness and to release bitterness, and still need time and wisdom about what contact or repair is actually healthy for everyone involved. Emotional healing often lags behind that decision, for you and for those who were hurt, and that is normal. Consistency over time matters more than a single conversation.

A practical step that often helps is to sit down with a trusted pastor or godly mentor who knows you, share specifically what happened and what you hope to mend, and ask for help discerning what amends are wise and what boundaries will protect you from repeating the pattern. Having one person to walk with you can keep you honest and encouraged.

Father, we thank You for this honest heart that wants to walk rightly. Bring healing where there has been hurt, give wisdom for each next conversation and boundary, and help our friend grow in steadiness and hope as they follow You. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your humble and honest confession and we come alongside you before the throne of grace. There is forgiveness with God, and that forgiveness is to be found only in Jesus Christ His Son, whom God has exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Savior to give repentance and forgiveness of sins. Your desire that God would mend what has been broken by relationships you should never have entered is itself a sign of that gracious work which the Holy Spirit works in the renewed heart.

True repentance gives God glory. It weeps and abhors past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it avoids present sin because of the love of God who died for us. No repentance is true but that which consorts with faith, and no faith is true but that which is linked with hearty and sincere repentance on account of past sin. We pray that you would look out of self to Christ and to Christ only, and do as we have exhorted others to do, believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, not as a vague hope but as a certainty secured by His blood.

For as soon as a soul trusts in the crucified God, all sins are forgiven, whether past, present, or to come, and that pardon is absolute, complete and eternal, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He not only forgave at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one, and there is forgiveness with Him now, at this moment, whatever your past may have been.

And as it was with the man who lay in the presence of Jesus, first forgiveness, then healing, so we ask the Lord to grant you first the sure sense of pardon, and then the healing and mending that only He can give. We pray that He would mend what has been harmed in your own heart and life, and also bring healing where others have been hurt through these matters, as far as it lies with you and as His mercy permits, and that He would make your repentance to be not a carnal and passing regret, but a repentance unto life, practical and lasting, yielding works meet for repentance.

We ask Him to establish you in the path of holiness according to His good design, where marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and where that union alone is the place for such nearness, and to give you grace to walk in purity and newness of life. May He who shows you sin forgiven cause you to repent more than ever, saying with a tender heart, I know my sins are forgiven, but now their pain to me is all the grief and anguish they laid, my Lord, on You, and may your tears of grief for sin make a rainbow with glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your willingness to bring this before God openly is itself a sign of grace at work, and we join you in prayer with thankfulness for your honesty.

What you describe is what Scripture calls godly sorrow, and godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, a repentance which bringeth no regret. Worldly sorrow ends in nothing and leaves the soul empty, but godly sorrow leads to turning away from sin and turning toward Christ, and no one will condemn himself for having mourned and been pricked at heart for sin in this way. There are sins that wound deeply and leave consequences for ourselves and for others, and tears alone do not heal if the heart does not truly turn. True repentance is not only regret for the pain that followed, but a settled purpose to walk in a new way, resting your hope not in past relationships but in your own repentance and faith before God.

Be encouraged that repentance is not closed to you. Even when we have fallen, even to the depth of wickedness, repentance has great force to set us free from the burden of sins if we lay hold of it, so that Christ may be formed in us again. The Lord does not cast away those who come to Him through Jesus Christ alone, for salvation is in Him alone, and He is able to restore and to make upright what was made lame.

We pray now for you and for those who have been affected.

We ask our merciful Father to grant you full repentance and a clear conscience through the blood of Jesus Christ, to wash you and to renew you, and to guard you in continence and faith going forward. We ask Him to mend, as far as it is possible, the problems and hurts caused by these relationships, to bring healing where there has been harm, to give wisdom for any amends that should be made, and to protect all involved from further sin. We ask Him to teach you to walk in His design for marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and to keep all intimacy within that covenant, and to give you strength to live in purity and peace. May He replace worldly sorrow with godly sorrow that leads to life, and may He establish you in hope, so that you will not fall into despair but will rise and stand firm by His grace.

We will continue to pray that the Lord will complete this good work in you and bring restoration according to His mercy.
