Relationships

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for God to mend problems I caused for myself and others by recently being in a relationship I should never have been in. Pray that God would also mend problems caused by other previous relationships I never should have been in. Thank you.

It's okay, friend. I wrecked many of my relationships with friends, I bullied my friends and broke them. But, I know that Christ forgives me for what I have done. I know he loves me and has changed me.

The same goes for you, even if you did this recently he forgives you and will change you.

I am praying for this in Jesus name, amen.

We join with you in bringing this before the Lord with a repentant and humble heart, and we thank you for your honesty in confessing that these relationships were ones you never should have been in. That kind of confession is pleasing to God and is the beginning of healing and restoration. The Bible tells us, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9 and He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy Proverbs 28:13.

We want to gently and lovingly address what is often at the root of relationships we should never have entered. God designed romantic love to be expressed within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman for life, and any courtship should be with the goal of finding a godly spouse who is a fellow believer in Christ, moving toward that holy marriage. The Scripture says Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4 and Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. We are also commanded Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. When we step outside these boundaries, whether through fornication which is sex before or outside of marriage, adultery, or being yoked with an unbeliever or someone who pulls us away from Christ, we cause wounds to ourselves and to others that only God can fully mend. We encourage you to bring each of those relationships before the Lord in repentance, to turn away from any ongoing sin, and to commit to pursue purity going forward, for this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and receive forgiveness and restoration. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation Romans 10:9-10. It is in His name that we can boldly ask for mercy and for God to repair what has been broken.

We do not believe your past defines your future, for God is a God of redemption. He promises, I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten Joel 2:25 and As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us Psalm 103:12. We know that to those who love God, all things work together for good, even our failures when surrendered to Him Romans 8:28. He can mend broken trust, heal emotional wounds, restore your witness, and make your path straight as you walk in obedience.

We pray together with you now. Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. We confess with them the sin and error of these past relationships and ask for Your full forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Create in them a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within them Psalm 51:10. Lord, we ask You to mend every problem caused for themselves and for others by these relationships. Where there is hurt, bring healing. Where there is broken trust or a damaged testimony, bring restoration and peace. Where there are lingering soul ties or temptations, break them by Your power and help them to flee from all that is not holy. Guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and lead them in the path of purity and wisdom. If it is Your will, in Your perfect timing, lead them to a godly spouse, a believing man or woman with whom they can enter into a holy marriage that honors You, and help them to court with intention and accountability toward that covenant. Teach them to wait on You and to seek first Your Kingdom. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue in daily repentance, in the Word, and in fellowship with mature believers who can hold you accountable and give wise counsel. Walk in the assurance that you are forgiven and being restored, and set clear boundaries going forward to honor God with your body and your relationships, trusting that His way is always for your good.

We appreciate your honesty in bringing this to us. Carrying regret for a recent relationship, and for earlier ones too, is a heavy burden, especially when you can see how choices affected other people as well as yourself. It takes humility to want to make things right rather than just push it aside.

One thing that has helped many people in this place is to recognize that the decision to turn from what was wrong and to seek God's forgiveness is one part, and the quieter work of the heart catching up is another. Feelings of guilt, shame or sorrow often linger even after a sincere decision, and they tend to ease more gradually as you walk faithfully day by day. It can also help to remember that seeking forgiveness and seeking healing does not always mean rebuilding the same relationships. Sometimes the most responsible way to mend what was broken is to allow healthy distance and give everyone space to heal.

It may help to sit down in confidence with a trusted pastor or mature believer you respect and talk through what wise, responsible amends might look like in your specific situation, and what clear boundaries will help you move forward well.

Father, we lift our friend to You and thank You for Your mercy when we turn to You through Jesus. Bring healing where there has been hurt, give wisdom for each next step, and give strength to walk in a way that honors You. Guard their heart and the hearts of others who were affected, and lead them into greater wholeness and peace. In Jesus name, amen.

Your honest and humble confession is heard, and it is met with this sure word from the Lord, There is forgiveness with Him.

You have done well to judge rightly what you once thought to be gain, to see that those relationships were not according to the Lord's holy design, who ordained marriage to be a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and appointed that all intimacy should be kept within that covenant alone. To turn from such paths is repentance, and where there is repentance and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ, there is forgiveness, full and free. As the Scripture says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake. This forgiveness is not measured out by little and little, nor given upon conditions of merit, but is absolute and complete through the blood of Christ. The record of your debt is nailed to the Cross. Do as Luther did and say with the Creed, I believe in the forgiveness of sins, and believe it for yourself. As soon as a sinner trusts in his crucified God, all his sins are forgiven, whether past, present, or to come, and the gifts and calling of God are without repentance, for He never plays fast and loose with men.

And with forgiveness there comes healing. The Word tells us the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and even the least thing about Christ has healing virtue. The Lord not only pardons the sin, but in His mercy He mends the wounds which sin has made. First forgiveness, then healing. He can heal the consequences that now trouble your own soul, and He can in His providence mend what has been broken for others who were drawn into these sorrows. What sin has scattered, grace can restore, for He has promised, They shall be as though I had not cast them aside. He can make the past to be as though it were covered, and give you to walk in newness of life.

Let us pray together. O Lord, we thank Thee that there is forgiveness with Thee that Thou mayest be feared. Look upon this penitent one who confesses that former paths were sinful and grievous to Thee and hurtful to others. For Jesus sake blot out every transgression, cast every sin behind Thy back, and speak peace to the conscience through the blood of the cross. Grant healing where there is bruising, and restoration where there has been breach. Keep this soul henceforth by Thy grace, that being forgiven much, he may love much and walk in purity and holiness, trusting only in Christ for salvation. Mend, we pray Thee, what we cannot mend, and let Thy perfect restoration be seen, to the praise of Thy mercy. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this so honestly and for recognizing that those relationships were not what God intends for you. That recognition is itself a grace, and God hears the prayer of a humble and honest heart.

Scripture teaches that godly sorrow works repentance that leads to salvation without regret, while worldly sorrow only brings death. True repentance is not just feeling bad for a time or wishing the consequences would go away, but turning from sin to God with a sincere desire to walk in His ways. Even when we have fallen deeply, repentance has great power to free us from the burden of sin and to restore us, if we lay hold of it willingly and fully through Jesus Christ, in whom alone we have forgiveness.

We will pray for you as you have asked, not that God would bless what was outside His good design, but that He would have mercy and bring healing where harm was done.

We pray that God, through Jesus Christ alone, would forgive you as you confess your sins to Him, wash you clean, and form Christ anew in you. We pray that He would mend, as far as it is possible, the problems and hurts caused to yourself and to others, give you wisdom to make restitution where you can, and guard you from further harm. We pray that He would heal any wounds of heart and conscience, help you to walk in continence and purity, and teach you to rest your hope not in past relationships but in His mercy and in a life of faithful obedience. We pray that He would guide your future steps according to His design for marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with sexual intimacy belonging only within that covenant, and that He would give you strength and peace as you follow Him.

If you have not already, bring these things to God directly in prayer, confess them plainly, ask for His forgiveness through Christ, and seek the help of a faithful pastor or mature believers in your local church who can walk with you, encourage you, and help you remain accountable. God delights to receive those who truly turn to Him, and His grace is sufficient to restore and to keep you.

Thank you for sharing this honestly and for asking for prayer. Your desire for God to mend what has been broken is itself a sign that He is working in your heart.

The Bible makes a clear distinction between two kinds of sorrow. One is a sorrow that simply feels bad because of the consequences, or because you were caught, or because pain came to others, but it does not lead to a real change. That kind of sorrow, Scripture says, works death. It leaves a person stuck, going over the same ground without moving forward. The other is a godly sorrow. It comes from the conviction of the Holy Spirit when we see that we have sinned against God. That sorrow leads to repentance, and repentance always means a change. It is not just feeling sorry, it is turning away from what was wrong and choosing a new direction, with fruit in your life that shows the change is real. It is like a death to the old life and a beginning of a new one. If there is true repentance, you do not go back and do the same thing over again.

That is important for the kind of relationships you are describing. God designed sexual intimacy and the shared life of a home to belong within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Any relationship outside of that design, whether it involves sex outside of marriage, living together outside of marriage, adultery, or any other pattern Scripture identifies as outside His will, will bring a harvest of hurt. What we sow we also reap, and those choices wound ourselves and others. God does not bless what He calls us to turn from, but He does forgive and restore the person who turns to Him.

It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. He does not want you to remain bitter or chained to regret, and He does not want you to keep living in the past, constantly replaying failures and the hurt you caused and received. Past experience has value only when it is translated into the present by a new walk with God. Otherwise it just holds you captive and keeps you from pressing forward. Scripture speaks of being clothed with garments of salvation and covered with a robe of righteousness. That is what God offers through Jesus Christ alone. Forgiveness is not found in trying to reflect on the past year or in trying to make up for it yourself, but in trusting that Jesus died and rose again to take your sin and give you His righteousness.

There is a beautiful picture in Scripture of winter being past, the rain being over and gone, and the flowers appearing and the birds singing again. That is the new season God wants to bring you into. He wants to move you forward into a new relationship with Him through faith, not backward into the weak and fleeting things of the past.

So we are praying for you in this way, that God would bring you into that godly sorrow that leads to a settled repentance and to salvation not to be regretted, that He would forgive you completely through Jesus Christ as you put your trust in Him, that He would heal where possible the wounds caused to others and give you wisdom to make what is right where you can, and that He would keep you from returning to relationships outside His will. We pray that He would help you bring forth real fruit of a changed life, walking in purity and trusting His goodness to bless you as His child of promise as you follow Him forward.
