The Sword Sheathed in Flowers
A Saviour Such as You Need
The Only Atoning Priest
We join with you in lifting up your marriage before the Lord and we thank you for honoring your covenant with your wife by seeking prayer for it. God established marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and He calls it holy. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate, Matthew 19:6. We are encouraged that you are standing for your marriage and seeking help for restoration rather than division, for the Lord says He hates divorce, Malachi 2:16.

We pray for your wife as she goes to therapy. We ask the Lord to bring healing to her heart and mind, to comfort her in any pain, anxiety, or hurt she is carrying, and to give her wisdom and peace. We pray that any counsel she receives would be aligned with truth and would not lead her away from God's Word, for blessed is the man who doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked, Psalm 1:1, and Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path, Psalm 119:105. We pray that her therapist would have wisdom and that the Lord Himself would be her ultimate Counselor and Healer, and that she would cast all her worries on Him, because He cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7.

We also pray for you as her husband, that you may love your wife even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it, Ephesians 5:25, and that you would live with your wife according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life, 1 Peter 3:7. We pray you will be clothed with humility, patience, and forgiveness toward one another, bearing with one another and forgiving each other, even as Christ forgave you, Colossians 3:13 and Ephesians 4:32. Love is patient and is kind, love doesn't envy, doesn't brag, is not proud, 1 Corinthians 13:4, and we pray that kind of steadfast love would be renewed between you.

We encourage you both to seek the Lord together in prayer and in His Word, to communicate with honesty and grace, and to pursue unity. Be humble and gentle in every way, with patience bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, Ephesians 4:2-3. If possible, seek also godly pastoral counsel alongside therapy, so that your marriage is built on the foundation of Christ.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is through His name we pray and find hope for restoration.

So together we pray, Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this brother and his wife and their marriage to You. Lord, we ask You to be present in their home, to heal what is broken, to soften hearts, to restore communication, affection, and trust. Touch this wife in her therapy, heal her wounds, calm her mind, and draw her closer to You. Strengthen this husband to lead with love, understanding, and faithfulness. Help them both to forgive as You have forgiven us and to love each other deeply. Guard their covenant from the enemy and make their marriage a testimony of Your grace and faithfulness. Let Your will be done in their lives and may they seek You first in all things. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Thank you for trusting us with this. We hear how much your marriage means to you, and we are praying with you for you and your wife in this season while she is in therapy.

It can feel hopeful and also uncertain when one spouse begins counseling. It is good that she is getting support, and it is understandable if you are wondering how best to come alongside her. One of the most steady things you can do is let her therapy be her space, while you stay consistent in prayer and care at home. You might ask her gently how she would like you to support her through this, and let her decide what she wants to share from her sessions without pressing for details.

It may also help you to have your own support while she has hers, whether that is a trusted pastor or a mature mentor you can talk with regularly. That gives you a place to process, stay grounded, and keep growing in love and patience day by day.

We are asking God to meet you both right where you are.

Father, we lift this husband and his wife to You. Draw near to them in this season, guard their hearts, and give them wisdom, humility and kindness toward one another. Work in their relationship according to Your will and help them grow in deeper intimacy with You and with each other. Give them peace as they take next steps. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have received your request concerning your wife and your marriage, and we join you in bringing it before the throne of grace.

You ask for prayer as your wife goes to therapy, and we pray that the Lord will use every lawful means for good, yet we look above all means to Him who alone can restore and keep. As it was with Peter, restoration is the work of Christ Himself. He prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail, and a look from the Lord brought him to repentance and afterward to usefulness again. So we pray that the Great Intercessor, who ever lives to pray for His own, will look upon you both with mercy, sever you from all that would draw you away, and turn your hearts again to Himself and to one another.

We pray also as those entrusted with the word of reconciliation. He is the God of Peace and He has, on His part, prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation through Jesus Christ, not imputing trespasses to them that trust Him. Whatever distance, neglect, or sin has entered, there is forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of the Lamb, and power in the Holy Spirit to work reconciliation at once. May you both know that peace with God which is the fountain of peace in the home.

Concerning marriage, we are reminded that in the Divine idea husband and wife become one, not two persons maintaining separate individuality as if by contract, but one flesh under Christ. The very crown of marriage is mutual delight and complacency, and Christ sets a very high store upon His people and teaches husbands and wives to love as He loves. We pray that your union may be strengthened in that pattern, that you may be turned again to your first love and earliest zeal, and then be made the means of strengthening one another.

Let us pray.

O Lord our God, who has joined together man and wife in a lifelong covenant, look with compassion upon this husband and his wife. Cover them with the righteousness of Christ, forgive all sin, and wash them in His blood. Grant to his wife help and healing in her time of therapy, give wisdom to all who counsel her, and above all give her and her husband the healing that only Thou canst give. Restore unto them the joy of Thy salvation, make them one in heart and purpose, and keep them close to Jesus. Teach them to delight in one another as Christ delights in His Church, to bear with one another in love, to speak truth in love, and to seek Thee first in all things. Uplift them from every sifting of the enemy, and make their marriage to show forth Thy faithfulness. This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our peace and our hope. Amen.
