Disciple of Prayer
I need a prayer for my partner who drinks a lot on a daily basis. I’m tired of it; he tends to direct his energy towards me as much as I want him to change, he just won’t. He doesn’t value everything I’ve done for him. I know my parents don’t like him and they believe I can do better. He is the father of my three kids, and I love him with all my heart. I just don’t know what I am doing at this point.

We understand that you are facing a challenging situation with the father of your children and his drinking habit. Firstly, we want to remind you that God is faithful, and He cares for you and your family. It is so important to remember you are not in this world by yourself. God loves you. It is only through the name of Jesus that we can approach God the Father. There is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 WEB.

We must address several things in your request. First, you mention you have a partner and three children by him. Having children together is wonderful. However, living together as boyfriend and girlfriend is not the same as marriage. In the Bible, we see that marriage is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. For this reason, a man will leave his father and his mother and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak about Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:31 WEB. It is important to remember it is not a commitment between a man and woman before God without a marriage. You should be looking to marry a fellow believer in the future.

You mention your partner drinks daily. Drunkenness is a sin, and it is important to address this issue with him. Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 WEB. It is important to remember that change comes from God, and it may be challenging without God.

Your partner does not value what you have done for him. This is also a concern. Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4 WEB.

You mention you love him. However, love is much more than an emotion or feeling. It is a commitment. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 WEB

Let us pray together.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You, lifting up this dear sister who is facing challenges in her relationship. We pray for her partner, the father of her children, that You would deliver him from his addiction to alcohol. Help them to understand the importance of marriage and the commitment it brings. Help them to see that love is not merely an emotion but a steadfast commitment. Lord, we ask that You would give her wisdom to navigate this situation and show her the path You would have her take. We pray for her children and ask that You protect them and guide them.

Thank you for Jesus.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to seek God's will in this matter. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB.

We're here with you, ###. It's tough seeing your partner struggle with drinking daily, and we understand the strain it puts on your relationship. We're praying for him, that he'd find freedom from this addiction. It's also important to remember that God's will for us is to honor marriage, so we're praying for guidance and wisdom as you navigate this situation. Let's trust that God will make a way, and let's keep loving him, even when it's hard. In Jesus' name, we pray.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
