Relationship stress

We understand your heart’s cry for better communication and unity in your relationship, and we lift this before the Lord with you. However, we must first address a few things with love and truth, as Scripture commands us to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

First, we notice that your prayer does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to the Father. The Bible is clear that there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, and it is only through Jesus that our prayers are heard. As it is written, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). Additionally, *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). We urge you to always pray in the name of Jesus, for it is by His authority and grace that we approach the throne of God.

Next, we must address the nature of the relationship you are referring to. The Bible defines marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). If you are not married to this person, we encourage you to consider whether this relationship aligns with God’s design. Courtship, if pursued, should be with the intent of marriage and should honor God in purity, communication, and commitment. If there is any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must lovingly but firmly remind you that this is fornication, which is a sin against God (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). Repentance and a return to holiness are essential, for *"the body is... for the Lord, and the Lord for the body"* (1 Corinthians 6:13, WEB). God’s grace is sufficient to redeem and restore, but we must turn away from sin and walk in obedience.

If this is a same-sex relationship, we must speak the truth in love: homosexuality is a sin, as Scripture clearly states. *"Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, WEB). However, this does not mean there is no hope! Many have turned from this lifestyle through the power of Jesus Christ and found freedom and redemption. *"Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God"* (1 Corinthians 6:11, WEB). We urge you to repent and seek God’s will for your life, trusting that He will lead you into truth and righteousness.

Now, let us pray for you, trusting that God will work in your heart and in this situation according to His perfect will.

---
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear one to You, asking for Your wisdom, conviction, and grace to fill their heart. Lord, if there is any sin in this relationship—whether fornication, idolatry, or any other transgression—we pray that You would convict them by Your Holy Spirit and lead them to repentance. Father, Your Word says that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We ask that You would cleanse and restore this person, drawing them closer to You.

Lord, we pray for effective communication, but more than that, we pray for hearts that are surrendered to You. Teach them to communicate with love, patience, and kindness, as Your Word instructs: *"Let all things be done decently and in order"* (1 Corinthians 14:40, WEB). May their words be seasoned with grace, and may they seek to build one another up in faith (Ephesians 4:29).

Father, if this relationship is not aligned with Your will, we pray that You would make it clear. Give them the strength to walk away from anything that dishonors You, trusting that Your plans are good. If this relationship can be redeemed and made holy through marriage, we pray that You would guide them toward that covenant in purity and faith. Help them to seek a godly spouse who loves You above all else, for *"a cord of three strands is not quickly broken"* (Ecclesiastes 4:12, WEB).

We also lift up the soul of the person they mentioned. Lord, we pray that You would draw them to Yourself, that they may come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Soften their heart to receive Your truth, and may they turn from any sin that separates them from You. *"The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance"* (2 Peter 3:9, WEB).

Father, we ask that You would surround this person with godly counsel and community. Lead them to a church where Your Word is preached boldly and where they can grow in faith. Strengthen them to walk in obedience, even when it is difficult.

Finally, Lord, we pray for peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). May they find their ultimate satisfaction in You, knowing that You are enough.

In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

---
We encourage you to examine your heart and this relationship in light of Scripture. Seek the Lord earnestly, and ask Him to reveal any area that needs repentance or realignment with His Word. Remember that God’s ways are higher than ours, and His commands are for our good (Isaiah 55:9). If you are unsure about what the Bible says regarding relationships, marriage, or purity, we urge you to read passages such as 1 Corinthians 6-7, Ephesians 5, and Hebrews 13:4.

If you are not yet a believer in Jesus Christ, we implore you to consider the Gospel: *"that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures"* (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, WEB). Salvation comes through faith in Jesus alone. Turn to Him today, and He will save you.

We are praying for you and trust that God will work mightily in your life. Stay rooted in His Word, and seek His face continually. He is faithful!

We're here with you, praying for your relationship. We understand that effective communication is key, and we join you in asking God for wisdom in this area. But let's not forget the power of love in action. As 1 Corinthians 13:13 tells us, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." Let's strive to communicate with love, patience, and kindness, just as we've been commanded in Ephesians 4:15.

We also pray for God's guidance in your relationship. We ask that He would make His will clear to both of you, and give you the strength to follow it, even if it's not easy. If this relationship is meant to lead to marriage, we pray that it would be a holy, God-honoring union. Help them to seek a godly spouse who loves You above all else, Lord.

And we lift up the other person in your relationship, praying that they too would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Softening their heart to receive Your truth, Lord. Surround them with godly counsel and community, and strengthen them to walk in obedience.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
