We hear the longing in your heart to hear from this person and to have the chance to talk and work things out today, and we join you in bringing this desire before the Lord together in Jesus name.
We understand how heavy the waiting can feel when reconciliation and clear communication are on your heart. Scripture invites us to bring our anxieties to God and to trust His timing and His will above our own. Philippians 4:6-7 says in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. 1 John 5:14 reminds us that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. We pray with you for restored communication, and we also pray that whatever happens today will be according to the Father's perfect will and timing, whether that is an open door for conversation now or patience to wait on Him.
We also want to gently encourage you about how to approach working things out in a way that honors God. Romans 12:18 says if it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. James 1:19 teaches us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Ephesians 4:2-3 and Ephesians 4:32 call us to walk with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, and to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Colossians 3:13 urges us to bear with one another and forgive one another if anyone has a complaint against another. If there has been hurt or misunderstanding, we pray both of you would come to any conversation with honesty, grace, humility and a willingness to listen well and to speak the truth in love as Ephesians 4:15 teaches.
Because you shared this as a relationship and friendship, we want to speak lovingly about God's design. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman that honors God. Genesis 2:24 says a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Hebrews 13:4 says let marriage be held in honor among all. If this is a romantic relationship, we encourage you to view being a boyfriend or girlfriend as courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to another Christian believer. 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and we pray any relationship you pursue would be centered on Christ. We also urge purity, for 1 Corinthians 6:18 says flee sexual immorality and we are called to honor God with our bodies. True love as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is patient and kind and seeks to honor the Lord and the other person. We pray for a godly relationship or friendship that builds you both up in faith, whether the Lord leads this toward a godly marriage that honors Him or toward a healthy, holy friendship.
We noticed your request mentions the Lord but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we share this with love because it is only through Jesus that we have access to God. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. 1 Timothy 2:5 says for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one and the person on their heart to You. Lord, You know the deep desire to hear from this person today and to talk and work things out. We ask for Your will to be done in this relationship. If it is Your will for communication to be restored today, we pray You would open that door and give grace for a calm, honest and loving conversation. If Your timing is different, we pray You would give patience, peace and trust to wait on You. Give both hearts humility to listen well, wisdom to speak truth in love, and grace to forgive and to seek peace. Guard this relationship from impurity and from anything that does not honor You. Lead each one to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness as Matthew 6:33 teaches, and to grow more like Christ. If this is meant to be courtship toward godly marriage, make that clear and establish it on Your foundation. If it is meant to remain a friendship, help it to be a holy and encouraging friendship that glorifies You. Beloved of All
There is a mercy in learning to wait upon the Lord, and your prayer gives us occasion to speak of it. You long to hear a voice and to see a breach healed, to talk and to work things out, and such longings are not strange to the human heart.
We are told that the Lord waits that He may be gracious, and blessed are all they that wait for Him. He is a waiting God, and His waiting turns at last to a glorious transaction of grace upon the soul when the time of love has come. His people in return are a waiting people, not waiting in despair nor even in hesitation, but waiting in hope, a joyous and assured hope of blessedness in reserve. To wait upon God as a servant waits upon his lord, anxious to know what his master wishes him to do, and as a traveler waits upon his guide and a mariner upon his pilot, is to find direction for the entire voyage of life. He is at the helm and His hand is to steer our course.
In that waiting the heart is strengthened, for through it the Eternal Spirit imparts a mysterious strength, the world and its affairs are seen in their real littleness, and a peace is bred within the soul which makes trials and foes to be of small account. Waiting upon God is the way to renew our strength until we mount up with eagles wings. Therefore we would have you wait bravely and patiently upon Him, not counting the hours but trusting till the glory shall begin.
We must also remind you that the first and chief reconciliation is that which God has wrought toward Himself. He is the God of peace and has prepared everything necessary for a perfect reconciliation, for God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. He has committed unto us the word of reconciliation, and all we have to do is to receive what He has written. Have you sought that peace with God through Jesus Christ alone, by whom alone salvation comes. When that peace is known in the conscience, then we can speak from experience of the joy which reconciliation brings, and we are fitted to seek reconciliation with others in a right spirit.
You speak of a friendship and a desire to be restored to kindly speech. We think of Peter, who fell and yet was restored. His restoration was brought about by a look from the Lord, for the Lord had prayed for him that his faith fail not. That look severed him from the crowd and brought him to go out and weep, and afterward to be restored by the Lord's own mouth and to strengthen his brethren. If there has been failure or estrangement, seek such a look from Christ. He is able to save and to restore, and to make you a better follower after you have been turned again to your first love. The signs of true restoration are a turning from the place of denial, a tenderness of conscience, and a renewed charge to serve Him.
We will pray for you, not that your own wish may be granted apart from wisdom, but that the Lord will do what is best and most for His glory. We ask that He will give you grace to wait only upon Him, to seek His will for this relationship, and to walk in holiness according to His design. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all our loves and friendships are to be ordered within the bounds of purity and reverence toward Him who says, Thy Maker is thy husband, taking upon Himself all the responsibilities of that covenant and calling us to reverence and subjection in return. Whatever the outcome with the one for whom you pray, may you be kept in that chaste and faithful walk which honors Christ.
May the Lord grant you quietness of spirit today, direction whether to speak or to be silent, and a willingness to receive His answer in His time. May He reconcile you first fully to Himself through the blood of Christ, and then, if it be His wise and holy will, open a way for honest and peaceable speech between you and your friend, to the building up of both souls and to the praise of His grace.
