Rejection

The weight of so many rejections while you are trying so hard to provide for your daughter is deeply discouraging, and it is understandable that you feel weary and in need of a miracle. Thank you for sharing so honestly and for continuing to pray each day through this.

Jesus knows what it is to be rejected. In His own hometown and even among His own family He was not honored or believed, and at one point His brothers thought He had lost His mind. He lived that kind of personal rejection, so He understands the sting you feel with every letter that says no, and He draws near to those who are rejected and heavy hearted.

Scripture also shows that God sees and cares about material needs. Jesus Himself entered this world in poverty, born in a borrowed stable, and in His ministry He did not even have a coin of His own when He wanted to give an illustration and had to borrow one. He knows financial pressure and what it means to have needs that feel unmet. At the same time God has left room in His law and in His ways to work beyond what looks possible. There was a law for the cleansing of a leper even though leprosy was considered incurable, as if God was saying He still might choose to heal. He is not boxed in by what looks impossible to us, and we can give Him room to work in ways we cannot predict or control.

Your desire to provide for your teenager, to pay your bills, to find work that is not toxic and that allows you to care for your daughter and take her to school and her activities, is a good and godly desire. The Bible teaches that caring for the needs of our own family is a basic responsibility of faith, that if we do not provide for our household we are neglecting what God has called us to do. Your diligence in remaking your resume, seeking help, following every lead, applying immediately, and stewarding what you have while your savings are being used, reflects that faithful care. God honors that kind of love for your family.

There is also a deeper provision God has made that I want to gently put before you. For our daily needs God invites us to pray and trust Him, but for our sin and guilt He has made only one provision, through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. There is no other way for forgiveness to come, in this life or the next, and the Holy Spirit bears witness to our hearts that Jesus is that provision. If you have not already, the greatest hope you can have in this season and beyond is to put your trust fully in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins and for new life with Him. He becomes our redeemer who steps in when we cannot redeem ourselves, much like the kinsman redeemer in Scripture who paid the price to keep a family from being lost when they were too poor to do it themselves.

You are not alone in this struggle. When we belong to Jesus we are brought into the family of God, where the bond runs even deeper than blood ties, and God often provides encouragement and help through that family. Please keep bringing your requests to Him. He hears every prayer you have prayed.

I am praying for you now that God in His wisdom and mercy would guide your resume into the right hands, open a door for work that fits the skills He has given you through your years of experience and education, and provide for you and your daughter in a way that gives you stability and peace. I pray that He would provide a healthy work environment and the flexibility you need as a parent, and above all that He would give you His peace and clear leading as you wait on Him, and that you would know His joy and nearness even in this trial. May the Lord show you His provision day by day and draw you closer to Himself through Jesus Christ.
