Regains his Mobility

We have been praying with you for this father and his family, and we thank God for the courage and love he showed in risking himself to save a child from the water. That kind of self giving love reflects the heart of Jesus, who laid down his life for others.

We are asking the Lord in Jesus name to touch this man and to restore mobility to his body. We believe strongly that God does heal, and that every healing is from him. Sometimes he heals instantly with a word or a touch, as we see Jesus do in the Gospels. Sometimes healing comes gradually, step by step. There is one account where Jesus laid his hands on a blind man and his sight returned only in part at first, and then fully after Jesus touched him again. That reminds us that a gradual healing is no less a work of God than an instant one.

Much about healing we do not fully understand, and we do not know why some are healed quickly and others are not. Scripture shows us that God is sovereign in these matters. Even the apostle Paul prayed repeatedly for his own affliction to be removed, and the Lord chose to answer in a different way. That does not keep us from praying with faith. It teaches us to pray with trust in his wisdom and love while we earnestly seek his mercy.

We also believe that the natural processes of healing that God placed in our bodies are themselves divine. He created our bodies and ordained the means by which they mend, and he often works through the skill of doctors, therapists, and caregivers. Any restoration, whether it comes through a sudden miracle or through a long and patient process, is a gift of healing from his hand. And even when physical restoration is slow or incomplete, God can bring deep healing to the mind and heart, bringing peace, strength, and hope in the midst of suffering.

So we are praying for a complete work of God in this man. We ask that the Lord would restore strength and movement, guide every medical decision and therapy, and sustain his wife and five children with comfort and provision day by day. We pray also for the greatest miracle of all, which is salvation and the assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ, for that is the healing that matters most and endures forever.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift this father to you. You have borne our sicknesses and infirmities, as the prophet Isaiah foretold and as Matthew reminds us was fulfilled in Christ. Lay your hand upon this man, breathe life and strength into his body, and restore what has been taken. Give wisdom to those who care for him, give endurance and faith to his family, and let your presence be near to them in every hour. Let your will be done, and let your love and power be clearly seen. Amen.
