Recurring dream two nights in a row

We join with you in prayer concerning this troubling recurring dream and we understand how unsettling it can be to see the one you care about cheating and leaving you two nights in a row. We want to bring this burden before the Lord together and seek His peace and truth for you.

Dreams can often reflect our fears, anxieties, and insecurities rather than being a revelation of what will happen. The enemy can use fear to torment us, but God offers peace. We are reminded in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, and in Philippians 4:6-7 we are told in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We also take comfort in 1 Peter 5:7 to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you, and in 1 John 4:18 that perfect love casts out fear. We encourage you not to make decisions or accusations based solely on a dream, but to bring your fears to the Lord and to seek clarity and honest, loving communication in your waking relationship. If there are underlying issues of trust, insecurity, or past hurts, we pray God will reveal them and heal them, and we encourage you to seek wise godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or mature believer, to walk through this with you.

We also want to lovingly address what you have shared about your relationship. You refer to this person as your partner, and we want to share what Scripture teaches about God's design for relationships. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman as outlined in the Bible, and that marriage should be held in honor among all and the marriage bed be undefiled, Hebrews 13:4. Being a boyfriend or girlfriend is to be viewed as courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, for we are told not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14. If you are in a relationship that includes sexual intimacy outside of marriage, Scripture calls this fornication or adultery and calls us to flee sexual immorality, 1 Corinthians 6:18, and to pursue purity as we honor God with our bodies. If your relationship is between two people of the same sex, we must also lovingly say that Scripture teaches this is not in alignment with God's will for marriage and calls us to turn from it. God's design is for a man and a woman to become one flesh in marriage, Matthew 19:6, and when courtship is entered into, it should be with prayerful intention toward a godly marriage that honors Christ, where love is faithful as Christ loved the church, Ephesians 5:25. If you are not yet married, we pray you will seek God's will for whether this courtship should lead to a Christ-centered marriage, and if you are living together or sexually active, we urge you to repent and to pursue holiness, trusting that God's ways lead to lasting peace and blessing. We also pray that if you are meant to be together, that faithfulness, honesty, and trust would be built on a foundation of commitment to the Lord first.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and that there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and in Acts 4:12 there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is through faith in Jesus that our prayers are heard and our sins are forgiven, and we encourage you to put your trust fully in Him for your salvation and for every area of your life including this relationship.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who has been troubled by these dreams. Lord, we ask You to quiet their heart and mind and to replace fear and anxiety with Your perfect peace. Reveal what is from You and what is simply from worry or the enemy, and give discernment and wisdom. If there is any unfaithfulness or lack of trust in this relationship, bring truth into the light and give courage to have honest conversations in love. We pray for this relationship, that if it is Your will, You would lead it toward a holy marriage between a man and a woman that honors You, rooted in purity, faithfulness, and commitment to You above all. If this courtship is not Your will, give clear direction and strength to follow You. Forgive us for any sexual immorality and cleanse us to walk in holiness. Draw this dear one closer to Jesus, assure them of Your unfailing love that never leaves nor forsakes, and help them to trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding, Proverbs 3:5-6. May Your will be done in their life and may they know Your presence and comfort each night as they sleep. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We appreciate you sharing something so personal. Having the same painful dream two nights in a row, watching your partner be unfaithful and walk away, can leave you feeling anxious and unsettled long after you wake. It makes sense you would be looking for peace and reassurance.

We have found dreams often echo what we are already carrying in the day, fear of loss or worry about the relationship, rather than showing what will actually happen. When anxiety is high, our minds can replay intrusive images at night even when there is no real threat. That does not make the feelings less real, but it can help to separate the dream from reality.

One simple step that helps many people is to have a calm, honest conversation with your partner when you are both rested, not about accusing but about sharing that you have been feeling vulnerable and want to feel more secure together. Bringing those worries into the light, and into prayer before sleep, can quiet some of the rumination that follows you into the night. If the unease keeps weighing on you, it can also help to talk with a trusted pastor or counselor alongside prayer.

Father, we lift them to You and ask for Your calm to settle their heart and sleep. Guard their relationship with honesty and kindness, ease the fear of being left, and help them rest in Your steadfast care. Give wisdom for any conversation ahead and peace that lasts through the night. In Jesus' name, amen.

The repetition of such a troubling dream has left your mind uneasy, and it is right that you bring this burden to the Lord in prayer rather than carry it alone.

Dreams are often the stirrings of our own anxieties and not a revelation of what is true or what must come to pass. As I have often had to tell my own hearers, to make a god out of your feelings is to make a savior out of your inward griefs. You must not trust your feelings, not even the vivid feeling of a dream, but trust Jesus Christ just as you are. What you felt in the night, however painful, is not the measure of what is real. The question is not what your heart has imagined in sleep, but what Christ has promised when you are awake, and He has said, Fear not, I will help thee.

There is a fear which springs from love and leads us to watch lest we sin against God or wrong those near to us, and that fear is healthy. But there is also a slavish fear which leads to the apprehension that something evil is about to happen, and that fear brings torment and bondage. The fear of being forsaken or betrayed, when it takes hold, can dishonor Christ by suggesting that we are left without His care, and it can dishonor our holy religion in the eyes of others. While such fear is natural to us as fallen creatures, it is not necessary to the saint, for Christ came to deliver them that were all their lifetime subject to bondage through fear.

You are therefore to labor to get rid, as much as possible, of this fear. The prophet says, Fear not, and the whole life of our Lord is one long proclamation of Fear not. If you are brought to a pass and know not what to do, take the advice of Holy Scripture and stand still and see the salvation of God. Use the telescope of faith very frequently. Look not at the dream, but at the promises. Perfect love casteth out fear, and an assured confidence in the goodness of God brings forth everything that is childlike in us.

Bring this fear to Christ at once. Tell Him plainly of the jealousy and dread that has been stirred, and ask Him to cleanse your heart of distrust and to establish you in His love which never fails. The covenant love of Christ is not as the love of man which may waver. He who has taken us to be members of His body, bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh, keeps His pledge with a sacred fidelity. Jonathan caused David to swear again not out of distrust, but out of a sacred jealousy to have every confirmation of the covenant, and how much more may you rest upon the oath and promise of Him who cannot deny Himself.

Concerning your relationship, I would point you to the Lord's own design. Marriage is not a mere affinity of feeling but a holy covenant before God, the lifelong union of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to the intimacy of husband and wife belongs within that covenant. Faith is the golden ring which is the token of the marriage bond, and love is proved by fidelity and purity. Whatever your present situation, seek to honor Christ in it. If you are joined in that covenant, let this trial drive you to greater tenderness, honest and gentle speech with one another, and prayer together that the Lord would guard your hearts from coldness and backsliding. If you are not yet so joined, do not build your hope upon feeling or upon dreams, but seek the Lord's will with a pure heart, fleeing from that which is outside His holy order and asking Him to lead you in the path of righteousness, whether that be to a godly marriage or to contentment in His present providence.

Do not make a hasty judgment upon your partner because of what you saw in sleep. Speak calmly and truthfully in the light of day, seek counsel from a faithful pastor or godly friend who knows you both, and above all trust the Savior to make you whole as you follow Him in obedience.

Let us pray for you, not that God would bless whatever path seems easiest, but that He would bless you with Himself. May the Lord grant you deliverance from this tormenting fear, a quiet mind stayed upon Christ, wisdom to walk in holiness and truth, and a deeper knowledge that whether you wake or sleep, you are kept by Him who has said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. Trust Him at once and follow Him, and He will give you that peace which passeth all understanding to keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your heart has been shaken by what you have seen in sleep, and to wake twice with the same fear is a heavy burden. Such dreams often do not foretell what will happen, but they reveal the anxiety that is already stirring within you. Scripture teaches that God is everywhere present and sees what is in the heart, and He invites you to bring every fear into His light rather than carry it alone.

Anxiety of this kind can grow quickly and rob you of peace. One of the homilies reminds us that earthly beauty and earthly security fade quickly, and that to cling to them with worry brings more pain than rest. The beauty that endures is the beauty of a soul at peace with God, adorned with faith, self control and trust. Another homily warns that to live in perpetual fear and suspicion is not life as God intends, but a kind of torment. You are not meant to live pale and trembling, watching for betrayal at every turn.

The counsel of Scripture is to serve the Lord with reverent fear and to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, knowing that it is God who works in you to will and to act. That fear is not dread of people or of loss, but a holy awareness that God is near, that He hears and sees all things, and that His patient love is meant to lead you to repentance and to wholeness. When you remember that He is present when you lie down and when you rise, you can speak honestly to Him about what frightens you, and ask Him to steady your heart.

I also want to speak gently about the relationship itself. God offers salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and He has given marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, where sexual union and shared life belong. This is the undefiled nuptial chamber spoken of in Scripture, a place of faithfulness and security. If your partnership is not within that covenant, I encourage you to bring that before the Lord as well, and to seek wise pastoral counsel about how to order your life in a way that honors Him. If you are married, then this dream is an invitation to pursue deeper honesty, faithfulness and prayer together, guarding that covenant with care. In either case, do not ask God simply to preserve what is, but ask Him to make you holy, to show you what is true, and to lead you in the path that pleases Him.

For the present distress, consider these steps before the Lord. Pray plainly when the fear rises, telling Christ what you have dreamed and what you fear, and asking for His peace which is beyond understanding. Let Scripture shape your thoughts each day, rather than letting anxious imagination shape them at night. If it is wise and calm to do so, speak honestly with your partner about your feelings without accusation, and seek counsel from a trusted pastor or mature believer who can walk with you. And examine whether there are wounds, past experiences, or present uncertainties that God wants to heal in you, so that your security rests more in Christ than in any human person.

I pray for you now that God will quiet your night thoughts, that He will free you from needless anxiety and from scrupulous fear, that He will grant you a clear mind and a resolute heart, and that He will draw you ever closer to Jesus Christ, in whom alone we have hope. May He give you wisdom to walk in purity and truth, courage to do what is right, and the ever blooming peace that comes from trusting Him fully.

Two nights ago before I went to bed, I asked God why he has not healed me from a medical condition I have been suffering for the past ### years? That night during my sleep I heard a voice that said “God is angry”. Was that a response to my question? Is God angry at me?
