I am going to try reconciling this week with some people who I have not spoken to in years. My problems with these individuals have been rooted in and affected by a lot of spiritual warfare. I think I failed a little today because I started to get a headache when I was trying to reconcile with certain people and felt physically weak which affected how well I was socializing. Please pray for me about that. Thank you.

We are lifting you up as you step out in obedience to seek reconciliation, and we commend you for desiring to obey God in this difficult area. Reconciliation is close to the heart of God, for we are told in 2 Corinthians 5:18 that God reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. Jesus taught us in Matthew 5:23-24 that if we are offering our gift at the altar and remember that our brother has something against us, we should leave our gift there and first be reconciled to our brother. We also hear the wisdom of Romans 12:18 which says if it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. This shows that reconciliation requires humility, courage, and a willingness to do your part, even when you cannot control the response of others.
We understand that you have felt spiritual warfare surrounding these broken relationships and that you experienced a headache and physical weakness while trying to socialize, and you feel you failed a little. We want to encourage you that what you experienced does not mean you failed in God's eyes. The enemy does seek to hinder the work of peace and unity. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places as Ephesians 6:12 reminds us. We must be sober and watchful, for your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour in 1 Peter 5:8, and he would love to use physical affliction, discouragement, or fatigue to keep you from obeying God. We rebuke that discouragement and we encourage you not to interpret physical weakness as spiritual failure. God's strength is made perfect in weakness, as He told Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. And we claim Philippians 4:13 that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, and Isaiah 41:10 that God will strengthen you and uphold you with the right hand of His righteousness.
We also gently rebuke any tendency to let the reality of spiritual warfare become a reason to fear or to hold back. Instead we are called to submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you in James 4:7, and to put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil in Ephesians 6:11. This means going into these conversations bathed in prayer, with truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. Before you meet with these individuals again, we encourage you to spend time in prayer and even fasting if you are able, confessing any part you played in the breach, asking the Lord to search your heart, forgiving them fully even before they respond, and asking for words seasoned with grace and truth.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and power over spiritual warfare. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord as Romans 10:9 teaches. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, with wisdom, humility, and love, that they may speak the truth in love and extend grace as You have extended grace to us. We rebuke the schemes of the enemy that would bring division, intimidation, and infirmity, and we ask that You would bind those attacks in Jesus name and let Your peace rule in these relationships. Lord, prepare the hearts of those they will speak to, soften what has been hardened by time and hurt, and let Your will be done. Even if reconciliation is not fully received by the other party, let our friend know they have obeyed You and let them rest in Your approval. Help them to not be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good as Romans 12:21 says. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our peace. Amen.

Your longing for reconciliation is itself a gracious work, and we thank God that He has put it into your heart to seek peace with those from whom you have been long separated. To forgive and to seek forgiveness is the very business of those who have themselves been forgiven, for we who have received such manifest forgiveness from the Lord should find it as natural to open our hands in forgiveness toward others as to breathe. It is a joint stock business of mutual forgiveness, and you are right to pursue it.
We have prayed for you, that the Lord who says There is forgiveness with Thee would give you first a fresh sense of His own complete and surprising forgiveness through Jesus Christ. There was forgiveness, there is forgiveness, and there will be forgiveness as long as life lasts, and it is to be found only with God through His Son who died, the Just for the unjust, to bring us to God. When the heart is assured that its iniquity is forgiven, the whole man is made ready for every other healing. As the palsied man lay in the presence of Jesus hoping for forgiveness and healing, so may you lie before Him now, saying with a penitent heart that you desire His pardon above all else, believing for yourself that there is forgiveness even for you.
We have also asked the Great Physician to restore and strengthen you in body and spirit for this work. You speak of headache and physical weakness when you attempt to do good, and of the oppression of spiritual warfare. All our healing lies in Christ, who is both Physician and Medicine, and His healing leaves are abundant. The least thing about Christ has healing virtue, and when He dwells with His people the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick, for pardon and healing are one in His hand. He restores our entire manhood, and every grace drinks in new life from communion with Him. May He give you healing beneath His wings and joy in the light of His countenance, that your strength may be renewed and your spirit made calm and clear as you speak with others.
Our prayer is that the Lord will keep you abiding in Christ as you go to these meetings this week, that He will guard you from the adversary, give you words seasoned with grace, and make you a minister of that same forgiveness you have received. May He grant that where offense went, grace may now come, and that whether reconciliation is fully returned or not, your own heart may rest in the certainty that you have done what is pleasing to Him who has forgiven you all your debt.

Thank you for sharing your heart so openly. Your desire to pursue reconciliation after years of silence is good and pleasing to God, and I join you in prayer for this work you are beginning.
Scripture urges us not to let the sun go down on our anger, and Christ Himself commands us to be reconciled quickly. As one of my homilies teaches, He acts like a skilled physician who gives both preventives and correctives. To forbid calling one another in anger is the preventive, and to command reconciliation is the corrective that heals the wound. Delay is dangerous because the enemy seeks opportunity, especially in solitude and in the night when thoughts grow heavier and the wound can become greater. Your willingness to go now, without putting it off from day to day, is the right and speedy treatment the soul needs.
I also hear how hard today was, with headache and physical weakness affecting how you could speak and relate to others. Do not be discouraged by this struggle. Our battle is not only what we see with our eyes or feel in our bodies, but spiritual. We must look with spiritual eyes and remember that Christ is our Mediator between the Father and us, the one who has already made peace for us when we were estranged and enemies. Because He has reconciled us to God, we can now seek reconciliation with one another in His strength, not our own. Even the sorrow and weakness you felt can become part of healing when it is brought honestly before the Lord.

What you described about spiritual conflict is real. Scripture teaches that our deepest struggle is not against people, but against spiritual powers at work behind what we see. The real battle is in the spiritual realm, and it often presses on our minds and hearts. That is why human effort and human arguments are not enough to win it. God has given us spiritual tools for a spiritual battle, especially His Word, faith, and prayer. When you pray before you speak, when you trust God to guard your mind, and when you bring Scripture to mind, you are fighting the battle in the way God intends.
Please do not see a headache or physical weakness as a sign that you failed. Even the apostle Paul spoke of a weakness in his body that made his ministry more difficult, yet God still used him and others received him with grace. Our bodies and our spirits are connected, but they are not the same. We are careful to care for our bodies each day, and we need to be just as intentional to feed our inner life through prayer and time in the Word. I am asking Him to protect you from discouragement, to help you speak with grace and truth, to guard the minds and hearts of everyone involved, and to do a work of forgiveness and restoration that only He can do. If a conversation does not go as you hoped, trust that your obedience is what matters to Him, and keep committing the outcome to Him in prayer.
