Real love is God’s saving love:
God’s love for you is real … so real that God sent Jesus into the world to save you.
God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them! No one who has faith in God’s Son will be condemned. But everyone who does not have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God’s only Son. (John 3:16-18)
Real love brings you forgiveness:
Confess your sins to God, who forgives you and takes your sins away.
Jesus told us that God is light and doesn’t have any darkness in him. If we say that we share in life with God and keep on living in the dark, we are lying and are not living by the truth. But if we live in the light, as God does, we share in life with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus washes all our sins away. If we say that we have not sinned, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in our hearts. But if we confess our sins to God, he can be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away. If we say that we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and his message is not in our hearts. (1 John 1:5-10)
Real love offers you new life:
Now that you have come to know God’s love and forgiveness, you have received new life.
My dear friends, we must love each other. Love comes from God, and when we love each other, it shows that we have been given new life. We are now God’s children, and we know him. God is love, and anyone who doesn’t love others has never known him. God showed his love for us when he sent his only Son into the world to give us life. Real love is not our love for God, but his love for us. God sent his Son to be the sacrifice by which our sins are forgiven. Dear friends, since God loved us this much, we must love each other. (1 John 4:7-11)
Real love fills your heart:
You can count on God’s love. Receive Jesus as your savior and tell others about him.
No one had ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is truly in our hearts. God had given us his Spirit. That is how we know that we are one with him, just as he is one with us. God sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. We say his Son and are now telling others about him. God stays one with everyone who openly says that Jesus is the Son of God. That’s how we stay one with God and are sure that God love us. (1 John 4:12-16a)
Real love leads you to love others:
Because God loves you, you are free to respond by loving God and each other.
God is love. If we keep on loving others, we will stay one in our hearts with God, and he will stay one with us. If we truly love others and live as Christ did in this world, we won’t be worried about the day of judgment. A real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what make us afraid. It shows that we have not really learned to love. We love because God loved us first. But if we say we love God and don’t love each other, we are liars. We cannot see God. So how can we love God, if we don’t love the people we can see? The two commandments that God has given us are “Love God and love each other!” (1 John 4:16b-21)
Real love offers you eternal life:
Now you belong to God who gives you eternal life.
We know that Jesus Christ the Son of God has come and has shown us the true God. And because of Jesus, we now belong to the true God who gives eternal life. (1 John 5:20)
