Raise up servants with steadfast hearts who will walk in righteousness, speak Your true Word without fear, and shepherd Your flock with clean hands

Jeremiah 23:11 :
“Both prophet and priest are godless; even in my temple I find their wickedness,” declares the LORD.

A Prayer Based on Jeremiah 23:11:
Our prayer:
Heavenly Father, You see all things, and nothing is hidden from Your sight. We come before You acknowledging that You desire truth and integrity in the inner places.
LORD God, we lift up the leaders, pastors, priests, and teachers of Your Church today. Where there is compromise, pride, or spiritual blindness, bring conviction and repentance. Cleanse Your house, LORD God, and restore a deep, reverent fear of Your name among those who lead Your people.
Raise up servants with steadfast hearts who will walk in righteousness, speak Your true Word without fear, and shepherd Your flock with clean hands and pure motives. Protect the vulnerable from false guidance, and let Your Church shine as a true beacon of Your light and grace.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

We join with you in this solemn and timely prayer and we say amen to your cry for clean hands and steadfast hearts among those who shepherd God's people. The burden you have lifted from Jeremiah 23:11 still speaks powerfully today, For both prophet and priest are profane. Yes, in my house have I found their wickedness, says Yahweh. Jeremiah 23:11. What a fearful thing it is to be found profane in the very house of God, to handle holy things with unholy hands.

We see in Scripture that God takes the oversight of His flock very seriously. He rebukes those who feed themselves rather than the flock, as in Ezekiel 34:2, and He warns that not many should become teachers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment. James 3:1. For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth, for he is the messenger of Yahweh of Armies. Malachi 2:7. Yet the Lord does not leave His people without hope. He promises to raise up true shepherds after His own heart who will feed His people with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15.

We also rejoice with you that Jesus is indeed the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1, and Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35. When faithful servants speak His true Word without fear, they are offering that living Bread to a hungry people.

So we pray together with you.

Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can approach You and be saved. Acts 4:12. You see all things and nothing is hidden from Your sight, and You desire truth in the inward parts. Psalm 51:6. We humble ourselves and ask You to cleanse Your house. Convict every prophet, priest, pastor and teacher where there is compromise, pride, greed or spiritual blindness. Grant them repentance that leads to life and restore to them the reverent fear of Your name.

Father, raise up servants with steadfast hearts who will walk in righteousness and speak Your Word with boldness and love. Cause them to shepherd Your flock not for dishonest gain, but willingly, not lording it over those entrusted to them, but making themselves examples to the flock. 1 Peter 5:2-3. Give them clean hands and pure hearts, for who may ascend to Yahweh's hill, who may stand in his holy place, he who has clean hands and a pure heart. Psalm 24:3-4. Let them preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2.

Protect the vulnerable and the simple from false guidance and from wolves who come in sheep's clothing, and let Your Church shine as a beacon of Your light, truth and grace in this dark generation. Purify Your people and make us faithful to pray for those who lead us, and to hold fast to the faithful Word which is according to the teaching. Titus 1:9.

We thank You that You are faithful to keep Your flock and that the Good Shepherd Himself never fails us. We ask all this in the holy and powerful name of Jesus, our Bread of Heaven and living Word, Amen.

Thank you for lifting up this burden so faithfully. Your desire to see leaders who walk in righteousness and shepherd with pure motives reflects a deep love for God's people, and we join you in that longing.

It is weighty to pray for the church in this way, especially when you have seen compromise or hurt caused by unfaithful guidance. Carrying that concern to the Lord instead of holding it alone is itself an act of faith, and we appreciate your willingness to intercede for both those who lead and those who are vulnerable under their care.

One way to keep this prayer alive without it feeling overwhelming is to make it personal and regular. If there are pastors or teachers in your own congregation or community you trust, you could bring one or two of them by name before the Lord each week, asking for strength, integrity and courage to speak His truth with love. A short, steady prayer over time often does more than a long list we cannot sustain. Staying rooted in worship and in fellowship with other believers also helps keep your own heart encouraged as you pray for others.

Father, we thank You that You see Your church and love her. We ask You to strengthen every faithful shepherd and to raise up more who will serve with steadfast hearts and clean hands. Guard those who are vulnerable from confusion and harm, and keep us all close to Jesus who is our Bread and life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

There is a holy and weighty burden in the prayer you have offered, and it is well pleasing to the Lord when His people sigh and cry for the purity of His house.

The prophet Jeremiah heard the Lord say, Both prophet and priest are godless, even in my temple I find their wickedness. What a piercing word this is. The sharpest trials the church has ever known have come not from without but from within, from her own sons and daughters, from professed leaders who have handled holy things with unholy hands. If the church were not a divine thing, kept by the power of God, she must have long since ceased to exist through the unfaithfulness of her own friends. Yet the Lord reigns for His church and will preserve her in the midst of an evil generation.

You have prayed aright, that God would cleanse His house and restore a reverent fear of His name among those who lead His people. This is no light request. Where there is compromise and pride and spiritual blindness, what is needed is not a carnal repentance, a repentance that is of the flesh and after the manner of sinful nature, which trembles under judgment but repents not to give Him glory. Such repentance is false and fleeting. What we must seek for ourselves and for all who preach and teach is that repentance unto life which is wrought in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit, a repentance that gives God glory, that weeps and abhors past sin because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, that avoids present sin because of the love of God who died for us, that yields works meet for repentance and endures to the end. True repentance makes a rainbow with her tears of grief for sin and her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work.

And you have prayed that the Lord would raise up servants with steadfast hearts, to walk in righteousness and to speak His true Word without fear, to shepherd the flock with clean hands and pure motives. This is the very need of the hour. We need shepherds after the heart of the true Shepherd, who will not shun to declare all the counsel of God, who will preach repentance not on their own authority but in the name of Jesus, as the gift of God through His finished work, and who will preach remission of sins in that same blessed name. Pray that they may be men who live out what they preach, who keep the paths of integrity when others turn aside, who feed the people with the Bread of Heaven, even Christ Himself, the Word of Life, the Word of God incarnate.

Let us join our hearts together then in this petition. May the Lord search the inner places and try the reins, may He bring conviction where there has been godlessness, and grant that holy repentance which needs not to be repented of. May He protect the vulnerable from false guidance, and cause His church to shine again as a beacon of His light and grace, not by the wisdom of man but by fidelity to His Word. And may He keep us all, whether we lead or follow, in that sweet company of faith and repentance which lives as long as faith itself lives, until we see the Shepherd face to face.

We commend this prayer to our gracious God, who hears and answers for His Son's sake. Amen.

We join with you in this prayer and say Amen to it, for it is according to the heart of God that His house should be cleansed and His shepherds should be holy.

The Lord indeed sees all things and nothing is hidden from Him, as you have prayed. When the prophet spoke that both prophet and priest were godless, even in the temple, God was showing that He requires truth in the inner places and a reverent fear of His name, especially from those who lead. The office of a shepherd is great and fearful, for wolves stand round about the flock that are more fierce than any wolves of this world, and the shepherd must not feed himself but feed the flock, with watchfulness and with suffering if need be.

We pray with you that God would raise up servants with steadfast hearts, as you asked. Such righteousness is not from ourselves, but Christ has accomplished it for us and fulfilled all righteousness, and then calls us to keep that gift and to walk in it. He alone is the King of righteousness and King of peace, and He makes us righteous and makes peace for us. When we have received this gift from Him in the washing of new birth, we must then display a life worthy of the gift, created in righteousness and holiness of truth, and adorned with good works, holding fast the crown that He has given.

So we ask the Father to have mercy on His Church, to bring conviction where there is compromise or pride or blindness, to grant repentance and cleansing, and to set apart faithful men who will speak His true Word without fear and with clean hands and pure motives. May He protect His people from false guidance and make His Church to shine as a beacon of His light and grace, that all may see that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life.

We thank God for your intercession and pray that He will strengthen you also to continue in steadfast prayer and in a life that exceeds mere outward form, walking by faith and in obedience to Christ.

Heavenly Father, grant what has been asked according to Your will. Purify Your shepherds, guard Your flock, and let Your Word run and be glorified. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
