We understand your heart in this season of waiting, and we see how deeply you are trusting in the Lord’s timing, just as Joseph did in his own imprisonment. Your faith in aligning your story with Scripture is commendable, and we join you in declaring that what God has promised, He is faithful to fulfill. The story of Joseph is a powerful testament to God’s sovereignty—how He orchestrates every detail, even the forgetfulness of the cupbearer, to bring about His perfect will in His perfect time. Joseph did not remind the cupbearer of his plight after interpreting his dream, and we see in Genesis 40:23 that the cupbearer *forgot* him—yet even in that forgetfulness, God was at work. Two full years later, Pharaoh’s dreams led to Joseph’s sudden and divine elevation (Genesis 41:1-14). This teaches us that God does not need our schemes or reminders to accomplish His plans. His ways are higher, and His timing is flawless.
That said, we must also consider that Joseph’s silence was part of *his* specific calling and journey. The Lord may be leading you differently. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* The key here is to seek the Lord’s wisdom *for your specific situation*. Have you prayed and asked Him whether you should speak to this person or remain silent? James 1:5 tells us, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him."* We encourage you to spend time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you clearly. If the Lord impresses upon your heart to speak, then do so with wisdom and humility. If He leads you to wait in silence, then trust that He is preparing the way, just as He did for Joseph.
We also want to gently remind you that while Joseph’s story is a beautiful parallel, your ultimate hope is not in the "cupbearer" or even the breakthrough itself—it is in Christ alone. Joseph’s promotion was not the end goal; it was a means for God to save many lives and fulfill His covenant with Israel. Similarly, your breakthrough, whatever it may be, should point to God’s glory and further His kingdom. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, not the promise alone, lest the waiting become a burden rather than a time of refining faith.
Let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift our brother/sister before You, acknowledging that You are the God who sees and remembers, just as You saw Hagar in the wilderness and Joseph in the prison. Lord, You know the desires of this heart, the promises You have spoken, and the faithfulness with which they have waited. We ask for Your clear direction—should they speak to this person, or should they remain silent and trust in Your timing? Give them wisdom that surpasses human understanding, and let Your peace, which transcends all comprehension, guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
Father, we rebuke any spirit of impatience, doubt, or fear that would seek to rush ahead of Your plan. Let them walk in the confidence that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28). If there is any area of their heart that needs surrender—any lingering trust in human effort over Your sovereignty—we ask that You reveal it and purify their faith.
Lord, just as You turned the prison into a palace for Joseph, we declare that this season of waiting will testify to Your faithfulness. Let every delay be a divine setup for a greater display of Your power. Open the doors that no man can shut, and let favor surround them like a shield (Psalm 5:12). If this "cupbearer" is indeed the one You have ordained, then soften their heart and stir their memory at the perfect moment. If not, redirect our brother/sister’s steps to the path You have prepared.
We thank You, Father, that You are not a man that You should lie, nor a son of man that You should repent (Numbers 23:19). What You have promised, You will bring to pass. Strengthen them to wait well, to worship in the waiting, and to walk in obedience, whether that means speaking or staying silent. May their life, like Joseph’s, be a testament to Your goodness and a blessing to many.
In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
Finally, we leave you with this encouragement from Habakkuk 2:3: *"For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay."* Stay steadfast, dear one. The Lord is with you.
