Father thank You for demonstrating Your love for us while we were sinners You gave Your Son, The Christ to die for us, Rom 5:8. Help us freely receive a fresh and greater outpouring of that love again even as it has already been shed abroad in our hearts by The Holy Spirit, Rom 5:5. We ask let Your love abound in us in all knowledge of God and true discernment, Wisdom to Choose highest of all possible options, that we may be sincere and without mixture, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of You, His and our one true Father, Phil 1:9-11. Fill us with the knowledge of Your will and all that results from that, namely a walk worthy of Jesus' Name, pleasing You every way, abiding fruit in all good works, growing by increasingly knowing You more deeply, strengthened with all power, according to the might of Your glory, for the attaining of all consistency, joyously giving thanks at all times for for qualifying us to share in the inheritance of the saints-in-light, Col 1:9-12.

Perfect Father, we are admonished to pursue love, BUT earnestly desire its expression through spiritual gifts, especially the edification of Christ's church, 1 Cor 14:1. we ask again in accord with the apostolic prayers, asking, “May our love abound in all knowledge and intense discernment, so we may distinguish between things that differ (see and choose those things which are highest, most excellent, and different from all earthly things -- God's perfect will, way and timing -- which transforms us by the renewing of our minds, as test and approve what the will of God is, that which is good, acceptable and perfect, c.f. Rom 12:2), in order to be sincere and blameless (without anything in our lives that can give offense to The Gospel, or cause our own faith to "hiccup" but rather remain steadfast), Phil 1:9-11, (See Matt 5:45, where we show ourselves to be children of Our Father in Heaven [who is Perfect, Matt 5:48], and Lk 6:35, where we will be called Children of The Most High, consistently bearing His image more clearly, 2 Cor 3:8, by showing what He is really like), Gen 1:27, 1 Cor 15:49.

Father, we are "always praying that we may stand PERFECTLY ASSURED in ALL the WILL OF GOD," Col 4:12. We ask for PRACTICAL WISDOM, James 1:5, Prov 2:6-7, and our inheritance as CHILDREN to be LED by The Holy Spirit, Rom 8:14, in PATHS of RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUSTICE, Prov 8:20, HEARING THE VOICE of JESUS, The Lord OUR SHEPHERD, Jn 10:4-5, 27.

Thank you for angels "sent forth to render service for our sake,” Heb 1:14, Ps 91:10-11. Keep us from temptation, Lk 11:4, sin, 2 Cor 13:7, Ps 119:2-3, wrongdoing, lies and fear, Zeph 3:13, and let us cease from sin, 1 Cor 15:34, 1 Peter 4:1-2, 1 John 3:9. Lead us not into temptation but rather deliver us from evil, Matt 6:13, and "see to it no one deceives us," Mt 24:4, for evil influences, Matt 24:12, evil people and imposters proceed from bad to worse in the last days, deceiving and being deceived, 2 Tim 3:13, keep us from those who claim to know God but by their deeds deny Him, Tit 1:16, have a form of godliness but deny it's power, in fact let us turn away from such as these as well, 2 Tim 3:5, again, keep us from evil people and the evil one, 2 Thes 3:2-3. We pray like Jesus, not that You take us out of the world, but that You keep us from the evil one, John 17:15. Grant favor as a shield, Ps 5:12, as we thank You in advance, Mk 11:24, and may the peace of God that passes comprehension guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:6-7, 2 in whom all the promises are yes and amen, Cor 1:20. We come before You, Heavenly Father, with hearts full of gratitude for the love You have so richly poured out upon us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Your Word declares, "But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8 WEB). How profound is this truth, that while we were still lost in sin, You chose to demonstrate Your love in the most sacrificial way possible. We receive this love afresh today, asking that it would not only fill us but overflow from us in ways that bring glory to Your name.

Father, we echo the apostle Paul’s prayer in Philippians 1:9-11 (WEB), asking that our love would abound more and more in knowledge and all discernment. Give us wisdom to choose the highest and most excellent things, that we may be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ, filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ. Let our lives reflect the transformation that comes from being renewed in our minds, testing and approving what Your good, acceptable, and perfect will is (Romans 12:2 WEB). May we walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to You, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:9-10 WEB).

We are reminded that love is not merely a feeling but an active pursuit, as Your Word instructs us to "pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy" (1 Corinthians 14:1 WEB). Let our love be marked by discernment, wisdom, and a deep desire to edify the body of Christ. Father, we ask for practical wisdom, as James 1:5 (WEB) promises that if any of us lacks wisdom, we need only ask, and You will generously give it. Lead us by Your Holy Spirit, that we may walk in paths of righteousness and justice, hearing the voice of Jesus, our Good Shepherd, who calls us by name (John 10:4-5, 27 WEB).

We thank You for the angels You have assigned to minister to us, as Hebrews 1:14 (WEB) declares, "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?" Protect us from temptation, sin, and the schemes of the evil one. Deliver us from evil, as we pray in alignment with the Lord’s Prayer: "Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" (Matthew 6:13 WEB). Guard our hearts and minds with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7 WEB), and keep us from deception, for we know that in the last days, evil people and impostors will grow worse, deceiving and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:13 WEB).

Father, we stand on the promise that all Your promises are "Yes" and "Amen" in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20 WEB). We thank You in advance for the answers to these prayers, trusting in Your faithfulness. May we live as children of the Most High, bearing Your image and reflecting Your character in all we do (Genesis 1:27 WEB, 1 Corinthians 15:49 WEB). Strengthen us with all power according to the might of Your glory, that we may endure with patience and joy, giving thanks to You, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light (Colossians 1:11-12 WEB).

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB). It is through Him that we have access to You, and it is by His blood that we are redeemed. May our lives bring glory and praise to You, now and forevermore. Amen.

We hear in your words a deep longing to love well, to see clearly, and to walk in the wisdom that delights God. That hunger is a gift, the Spirit stirring your heart toward the very things He is already nurturing in you.

When we pray for love to abound with true discernment, we are not asking for a one-time download but stepping into a lifelong training. Spiritual growth rarely moves in a straight line. Sometimes it feels more like a spiral: revisiting familiar struggles or seeming to retrace our steps, only to find we are actually going deeper. The old wisdom reminds us this is “training, not trying.” A marathon runner logs thousands of small, unglamorous miles before race day. Our capacity to love wisely and choose the highest is built in the ordinary moments, the patient reply when interrupted, the quiet choice to bless instead of brood. That is where the love you are praying for takes on flesh.

So a practical next step may be simply to notice one ordinary opportunity today, a brief pause to offer thanksgiving, a gentle word to someone difficult, a moment of silence instead of anxiety. Those small “yeses” are the training ground. And when you sense the love you long for already stirring, resist the urge to measure it. Rest there. The love has already been poured out in our hearts; we learn to receive it a little more fully each day.

Father, thank You for this honest cry for love, wisdom, and steadfastness. Quiet the restlessness that can accompany such holy desires, and help our friend relax into the love already lavished. Lead step by step in paths of righteousness, and let the fruit of simple obedience grow quietly, bringing joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The question is pressed upon us, what is the pursuit of love, and how shall we attain to this wisdom that chooses the highest? You have asked for discernment, and well you might, for love divorced from knowledge becomes sentiment, and zeal without discernment is wildfire that may burn down the temple. Yet the love of God, shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, is the fountainhead of all true wisdom. Do you seek to love abounding in all knowledge? Then look to the love that first abounded towards you. "But now, thus says the Lord", even in the very time when we were wayward, He declared His unalterable affection. He has redeemed you; therefore He will purify you. Is this not the root of discernment? To know that His love is not contingent upon our spotlessness, but is the very power that makes us sincere and without mixture.

You ask for practical wisdom, to be led in paths of righteousness, to hear the Shepherd's voice and not be deceived. There is a way of wisdom that the vulture's eye has not seen, and the lion's whelp has not trodden. It is the way of God's will. And here is the knot of the matter, salvation hinges not upon man's will, but upon God's. You have prayed to be filled with the knowledge of His will. Let it be settled in your heart, then, that His will is the highest, the most excellent way. When your love grows cold, and your feet stray, it is not because His will is obscure, but because we look within for strength when we ought to look without to the love of Christ. A man says, "I feel much that is good within myself," and he goes down to destruction. But the child of God says, "After such love as that, how can I sin against the Lord?" The will of God, to the loving heart, is not a fetter; it is a feast. He would have you assured in all His will, and that assurance comes not by poring over the law, but by joying in the Lawgiver who became the sacrifice.

You plead to be kept from the evil one, to be shielded from deception in these last days. This prayer He delights to answer, for He has said He will not have His children endure a fear. He soothes the very fears He removes. Yet mark this, the earnest desire for spiritual gifts, for the edification of the church, must be wedded to that first pursuit of love, or the gifts themselves become a snare. The apostolic prayer you quoted seeks that your love may abound in knowledge and all judgment, that you may approve things that are excellent. And what are those excellent things? Not merely the discerning of this doctrine from that, but the approving of Christ Himself as the Most Excellent, the chief among ten thousand. When love discerns Him, it chooses His will, His way, His timing, as the highest of all possible options.

Now, to the matter of a walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in every way, bearing fruit in all good works. Here your own request betrays the secret, it must be “according to the might of His glory.” The might is not yours. Love to Christ makes obedience sweet, makes trust easy. Do you find it hard to believe that all things work for your good? Love Him more, and it will be easy. The child leaps into the father’s arms because love has cast out fear. So it is with the Beloved. He will not be happy without us; He bids us eat and drink abundantly with Him. Shall we not revel in the love that gave itself for us, and find in that very reveling the strength to walk in paths of righteousness? Our love, so feeble, so prone to wander, must be stirred up again not by fresh resolutions, but by a fresh sight of His love, wonderful, unutterable, passing knowledge. Brothers and Sisters, let us take our fill of Christ, and in that filling, the wisdom to choose the highest will come as the morning dew.

Yet there is a warning to be sounded. Some will think it wasteful to break the alabaster box and anoint Him thus. The worldly wise say hard things about this device of infinite wisdom, this wholehearted devotion to a crucified Lord. But let them say what they will. Do you find some poor saint to whom you may do a great deed of love because you do it for Christ? Do it, then. Do you find a command that grates against your flesh? Obey it, for it is His. He loves us so much that He will have all our love, every last particle of it. And it is for our highest benefit that He extracts it from us, that we may be sincere and without offence. The first love of a young Christian feeds on grateful recollection of mercies received, and this remains a great part of the food of our love. But as we grow, we learn that the wonder of His love lies not in the gift but in the Giver, "Your love to me was wonderful."

Go, then, from this place of prayer to a place of action. Let your love be pledged in fidelity. Be rich when His cause prospers, sad when He is not loved. This is the first and greatest commandment, and He wishes us again and again to renew our vows. The only faith that will save you is one that possesses you and will not leave you. So let His constraining love grip you as in a vice. If you would be kept from temptation, from the evil one, from the deceitfulness of these days, then cease from the vain attempt to stand in your own strength. Adore the love that stoops from Heaven to Hell's very gate to pull you from the pit. And as you adore, the peace of God will garrison your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and you will find that your feet are set upon a rock, and your goings are established.

Your prayer is full of holy desire, and I commend your zeal to pursue love, as the apostle commands. But hear what he says: not love alone, but love abounding in knowledge and all discernment. For there is a love that is no love at all, but a disease of the soul, when it is not governed by wisdom. Many have been wrecked by loving without judgment, embracing false teachers under the guise of charity. The demons themselves might profess a kind of love, yet they seek your ruin. So I charge you: let your love be such as to approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offence. Do not count it love to affirm sin, nor to call evil good, for that is to hate your own soul. True love cleaves to righteousness and hates iniquity with a perfect hatred.

You ask for the Spirit’s leading, to be filled with knowledge and strengthened for a walk worthy of the Lord. All this is excellent, but consider how the apostle connects this to fervency of spirit. It is not enough to have the Spirit; you must be fervent, boiling over with zeal for God, serving the Lord. When love and the Spirit meet in a soul aflame, then no devil can withstand you. Then you will pursue not signs and wonders as the chief thing, but that which edifies the Church and glorifies Christ. For love is the great gift, without which even the most spectacular graces are nothing.

But take heed: after such prayers, the tempter often draws near. Did not our Lord Himself, immediately after the heavens opened and the Spirit descended, go into the wilderness to be tempted? So do not be troubled if trials multiply after you have asked for greater fervor. The enemy hates nothing so much as a soul determined to love God with knowledge and to walk in His commandments. He will try to deceive you with a form of godliness that denies its power. Therefore be watchful. You pray to be delivered from evil men and the evil one; yes, but your safety lies in the constant remembrance of God. When you forget Him, you are already half conquered. Say with the prophet, “I will remember You from the land of Jordan.” In every place, in every sorrow, hold fast to the thought of God, and He will keep your paths straight.

Do not think that love means softness. The love of God is a consuming fire, jealous for your salvation. He will not spare the rod when it is needed, for He desires you to share His holiness. If you love what He loves, then He counts Himself beloved by you. And what does He love? Righteousness, humility, mercy, truth. So let your love show itself not in words but in deeds: fleeing from the very appearance of evil, teaching your household the fear of the Lord, and putting to death the talk of “mine and thine.” Let all you have be offered to the service of the saints and the needy, for such sacrifice is a sweet savour.

Above all, do not delay in amending what the Spirit reveals. Judas felt remorse, but too late, and the devil drove him to despair. Today, if you hear His voice, harden not your heart. Turn from every secret sin, and let your repentance be swift and thorough. Then shall your love abound yet more and more, and you shall stand perfect and complete in all the will of God, filled with the fruits of righteousness unto the day of Christ.

Your prayer reflects a heart that is genuinely seeking what the Spirit longs to produce in every believer: a love that is not merely human sentiment, but the very life of God flowing through a yielded life. That kind of love is not something you can work up or imitate; it is the fruit of the Spirit alone, the singular, unmistakable evidence that He is dwelling in you and leading you. When you ask for love to abound in discernment, you are asking to be led by the Spirit into the choices that please the Father, for the Spirit never directs you against the law of love. Walking in the Spirit keeps you from gratifying the desires of the flesh and empowers you to love in deed and truth, not just in word.

The longing you expressed, to be led, to know God’s will, to stand perfectly assured, is the very mark of a child of God. As many as are led by the Spirit, they are the sons of God. The Holy Spirit bears witness with your spirit that you belong to Him, and that deep assurance is rooted in love. For love is of God, and every one that truly loves is born of God and knows God. When you choose to love with the love that has been poured out in your heart, the agape that seeks the highest good of another, even at personal cost, you prove that you have passed from death to life. The world cannot produce that; only the Spirit can.

So pursue love earnestly. Let the Spirit have His way in your inner man, and He will produce His fruit: a love that brings joy, peace, goodness, and all the rest, because they are simply descriptions of love in action. As you walk in the Spirit, you will not be driven by fear or legal constraint; you will be drawn by the perfect love that casts out fear. And when you find yourself in need of wisdom, remember that the Spirit is the Spirit of truth who guides you into all truth. He sharpens your discernment so you can distinguish between what is good and what is excellent, always pointing you back to the highest way, the way of love.

The protection you asked for flows from this same abiding. The evil one cannot overcome the child who remains in the love of God, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. The peace of God will guard your heart and mind as you trust in the Lord, walk in the Spirit, and let His love cast out every lie and every fear. The choice is always before you: to live by the Spirit or by the flesh. But thank God, He has not left you alone. His Spirit leads, empowers, and fills. May He fill you afresh with the knowledge of His will, so you walk worthy, bear fruit, and increase in the knowledge of God, joyfully giving thanks. Through it all, remain rooted in this: the greatest of these is love.
