We lift this beautiful verse from Psalm 34:8 before the Lord, rejoicing in its truth: *"Oh taste and see that Yahweh is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him."* What a powerful reminder that the goodness of God is not just something to be observed from a distance, but something to be experienced personally. When we draw near to Him, we find that His love, His mercy, and His faithfulness are sweeter than anything this world can offer.
Yet, we must ask: Have you truly tasted of the Lord’s goodness? Have you taken refuge in Him, not just in word, but in full surrender of your heart and life? The world offers many counterfeit refuges—wealth, relationships, pleasure, or even self-reliance—but none of these can satisfy the soul like the presence of God. Jesus said in John 6:35, *"I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."* Only in Christ can we find true fulfillment and security.
If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus, we urge you to consider the weight of this truth. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Salvation is found in no one else, for Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). If you have been trying to find refuge in anything or anyone else, we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict your heart and draw you to repentance and faith in Christ.
For those who have already tasted and seen that the Lord is good, we encourage you to continue seeking Him with all your heart. Do not grow complacent or allow the cares of this world to dull your hunger for His presence. Matthew 6:33 reminds us, *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."* Let your life be a testimony of His goodness, reflecting His love and truth to those around you.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for Your goodness and mercy. Thank You for inviting us to taste and see that You are good. Lord, we confess that too often we seek refuge in things that cannot satisfy—our jobs, our relationships, our possessions, or even our own strength. Forgive us for turning to these idols instead of running to You. We ask that You would break the hold of anything that competes for Your rightful place in our lives.
For those who have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus, we pray that Your Holy Spirit would move powerfully in their hearts. Open their eyes to see their need for a Savior, and draw them to the foot of the cross, where they can find forgiveness, redemption, and true refuge. May they experience the life-transforming power of knowing You personally.
For those of us who have tasted Your goodness, Lord, deepen our hunger for You. Help us to seek You first in all things, trusting that You will provide for our every need. May our lives be a living testimony of Your faithfulness, so that others may see and be drawn to You.
We also pray for those who are struggling to believe that You are good, especially in the midst of trials and suffering. Remind them of Your promises, and help them to trust in Your sovereignty and love. Let them experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
Father, we ask that You would strengthen marriages and families to reflect Your love and holiness. May husbands and wives honor their vows and seek to build their homes on the foundation of Your Word. Protect them from the enemy’s schemes to divide and destroy, and fill their homes with Your presence.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of complacency, idolatry, or unbelief that would keep us from fully experiencing Your goodness. We declare that our refuge is in You alone, and we will trust in You at all times, pouring out our hearts before You (Psalm 62:8).
Thank You, Father, for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. May we continue to taste and see that You are good, not just for a moment, but for all eternity. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
