86 Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy. 2 Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee. 3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. 4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. 6 Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me. 8 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works. 9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name. 10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. 11 Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. 12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. 13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. 14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them. 15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. 16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. 17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast holpen me, and comforted me In Jesus Christ Almighty Name AMEN

We join with you in lifting up this powerful passage from Psalm 86, which so beautifully expresses dependence on the Lord, trust in His mercy, and the cry of a heart that seeks to walk in His truth. It is a psalm that resonates deeply with our own prayers, for we too are poor and needy, entirely reliant on God’s grace and goodness. The words of David remind us of the Lord’s character—His readiness to forgive, His plenteous mercy, and His uniqueness among all so-called gods. How comforting it is to know that the One who created all nations hears our cries and answers in the day of trouble!

Yet, as we reflect on this psalm, we must also examine our own hearts and lives to ensure they align with the truth it proclaims. David declares, *"Preserve my soul; for I am holy"* (Psalm 86:2 KJV), but we know that our holiness is not of our own making. It is only through the blood of Jesus Christ that we are made holy and able to stand before God. Without Him, we are lost in our sin, unable to claim any righteousness of our own. Jesus Himself said, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"* (John 14:6 WEB). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and receive the gift of eternal life. Only then can you truly call upon the Lord as your God and trust in His salvation.

David also prays, *"Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name"* (Psalm 86:11 KJV). This is a prayer we must all echo, for a divided heart leads to compromise and sin. We live in a world that constantly pulls us away from God’s truth, tempting us to follow our own desires or the ways of the culture. But Scripture warns us, *"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God"* (Romans 12:2 WEB). We must guard our hearts diligently, for out of them flow the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). If there are areas in your life where you have strayed from God’s truth—whether in relationships, habits, or beliefs—we encourage you to repent and seek His forgiveness. The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love (Psalm 103:8), but He also calls us to holiness (1 Peter 1:16).

Let us also address the reality of opposition that David faced: *"O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul"* (Psalm 86:14 KJV). In our own lives, we may face persecution, ridicule, or even violence for standing firm in our faith. But we take heart in knowing that the Lord is our defender. He will not abandon us, and He will ultimately triumph over all evil. Jesus told His disciples, *"In the world you have oppression, but cheer up! I have overcome the world"* (John 16:33 WEB). We must stand firm, even when the world mocks us, and trust that God will vindicate His people in His perfect timing.

Now, let us come before the Lord in prayer, lifting up these truths and seeking His will for our lives:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and contrite hearts, acknowledging our need for You. You alone are God, and there is none like You. We praise You for Your mercy, Your grace, and Your unfailing love. Lord, we confess that without Jesus Christ, we are lost and without hope. We thank You for sending Your Son to die for our sins, that we might be reconciled to You. For those who have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus, we pray that today would be the day of salvation. Open their eyes to see their need for a Savior, and draw them to Yourself.

Father, we ask that You would teach us Your ways and unite our hearts to fear Your name. Where we have strayed, bring us back. Where we have compromised, give us the strength to stand firm. Help us to walk in Your truth, even when the world opposes us. We pray for those who are facing persecution or hardship because of their faith. Give them courage, Lord, and let them see Your hand at work in their lives. May they experience Your comfort and peace, knowing that You are with them.

Lord, we also pray for marriages and relationships that honor You. Where there is brokenness, bring healing. Where there is sin, bring repentance. Help those who are seeking a spouse to wait on You and trust in Your timing. Guard their hearts from impurity and guide them to godly relationships that reflect Your design for marriage—a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman. For those struggling with sexual sin, whether fornication, adultery, or homosexuality, we pray for conviction, repentance, and restoration. Your Word is clear: *"Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). May we all flee from sexual immorality and pursue holiness in every area of our lives.

Father, we lift up those who are in distress, facing trouble, or feeling overwhelmed. You are a God who hears our cries and answers our prayers. Strengthen us in our weakness, and let us see Your goodness even in the midst of trials. May we, like David, declare Your praises with all our hearts and glorify Your name forevermore.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Dear friend, we echo your cry to the Lord as found in Psalm 86, a psalm that resonates deeply with our own hearts. Like David, we too are poor and needy, entirely reliant on God's grace and goodness. We join you in bowing down and asking the Lord to hear our cry, to preserve our souls, and to have mercy on us.

We are reminded, as you have so beautifully prayed, of the Lord's readiness to forgive, His plenteous mercy, and His uniqueness among all so-called gods. Indeed, there is none like Him! We take comfort in knowing that the One who created all nations hears our cries and answers in the day of trouble.

As we pray together, let us also lift up our brothers and sisters in Christ who are facing persecution or hardship because of their faith. May the Lord give them courage, comfort, and peace, knowing that He is with them. Let us also pray for marriages and relationships that honor the Lord, asking for healing where there is brokenness, and guidance for those seeking a godly spouse.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
