Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

Lord, we thank you that you for the blessings that you have given us. Help us to honor you in every part of our lives. We place this request at your throne. Please hear and reply according to your perfect will and timing. Grant us the peace to know that you are in control. In Jesus Name. Amen.

That psalm is always recited at funerals, but I wonder if that was the original meaning. It can help the living, too.Just because it reads,"He makes me lie down in green pastures" doesn't mean it's necessarily just for the dead.I mean, when David first wrote it, I somehow don't think he was at a funeral, to inspire him to write it.Yet now that's exclusively used for funerals, and I never hear it quoted for the living.What do you think?It states, "goodness will follow me all the days of my LIFE".I think using it only for funerals is a habit that got started.

It is a beautiful psalm. It is okay for the living!! Green pastures can mean peaceful places for the living.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We all hope that our prayers are answered in the way that we want. Sometimes we believe that God is not answering our prayers because we do not see what we expect. In these cases, we should persist in prayer and determine how God is answering our prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son, Jesus Christ.
