Proverbs, Chapter 23

23:1 When you sit to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently him who is before you;

23:2 And put a knife to your throat, If you are a man given to appetite.

23:3 Don't be desirous of his dainties; Seeing they are deceitful food.

23:4 Don't weary yourself to be rich; Cease from your own wisdom.

23:5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For [riches] certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flies toward heaven.

23:6 Don't eat the bread of him who has an evil eye, Neither desire his dainties:

23:7 For as he thinks inside himself, so he is: Eat and drink, he says to you; But his heart is not with you.

23:8 The morsel which you have eaten you will vomit up, And lose your sweet words.

23:9 Don't speak in the hearing of a fool; For he will despise the wisdom of your words.

23:10 Don't remove the ancient landmark; And don't enter into the fields of the fatherless:

23:11 For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause against you.

23:12 Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to the words of knowledge.

23:13 Don't withhold correction from the child; [For] if you beat him with the rod, he will not die.

23:14 You will beat him with the rod, And will deliver his soul from Sheol.

23:15 My son, if your heart be wise, My heart will be glad, even mine:

23:16 Yes, my heart will rejoice, When your lips speak right things.

23:17 Don't let your heart envy sinners; But [be] in the fear of Yahweh all the day long:

23:18 For surely there is a reward; And your hope will not be cut off.

23:19 Hear, my son, and be wise, And guide your heart in the way.

23:20 Don't be among winebibbers, Among gluttonous eaters of flesh:

23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty; And drowsiness will clothe [a man] with rags.

23:22 Listen to your father who begot you, And don't despise your mother when she is old.

23:23 Buy the truth, and don't sell it; [Yes,] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

23:24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; And he who begets a wise child will have joy of him.

23:25 Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her who bore you rejoice.

23:26 My son, give me your heart; And let your eyes delight in my ways.

23:27 For a prostitute is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.

23:28 Yes, she lies in wait as a robber, And increases the betrayers among man.

23:29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?

23:30 Those who tarry long at the wine; Those who go to seek out mixed wine.

23:31 Don't look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly:

23:32 At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like an adder.

23:33 Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things.

23:34 Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or as he who lies on the top of a mast.

23:35 They have stricken me, [you will say], and I was not hurt; They have beaten me, and I did not feel it: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

The teacher rejoices more than the student when they learn with care what is being taught. It is a reflection of both. The teacher has taught well and the student has learned well. Jesus taught His disciples to pray. The disciples learned what their Master has taught them. Now they have to share with others what Jesus taught them. Prov. 23.15 says. My son, if your heart be wise, my heart will be glad. Even mine. Let us all make God's heart happy when we start reading His word and obeying what it says.

In the Bible I have learned that God values us not for our intelligence, our brains or how strong we are. God values us because we believe and trust Him above anything else in this world. He has made us for Himself and until we find Him we will be orphans and lost in this world. Let your father and mother be glad. Prov. 23.25a Our heavenly Father will be so glad to know that we are serving Him with all our heart, mind and soul. Our earthly mother will rejoice when we know that we are faithful servants of the living God. That is really the most precious gift we can give to our earthly parents. To rejoice with them in heaven when we enter the eternal gates of paradise where Jesus waits for each one of us. Amen

When things do not seem to change and hope seems so hard to find and there is no one to help. Just close your eyes and remember that Jesus is right near hearing what you are going to say. Tell Him how you feel. Ask Him which way you should go from now on. And then you will see how things change. All you need to do is speak to Him from down deep in your soul. He will answer you before you think. Your eyes will see strange things. Prov. 23,33a Strange things will happen when we are sitting at the feet of Jesus. He will make our path straight. He will show us the way in which we should go.

As for God, His way is perfect, the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all of them that trusts in Him. II Sam. 22.31 As we read God's word, let us realize that we are the children of an everlasting God who loves and cares for us. God wants to open new doors for each one of us. So let God have His way in our hearts to serve Him all the days of our lives. Apply your heart to instruction. Prov. 23.12a

All glory, praise and honor to God almighty who told us to follow His path that lead us all to glory. No further needs a slumber to draw from a fountain of life giving power and mercy. That comes out from the heart of God Himself. The path to heaven was preached by Jesus. He said. I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes through the Father but by Me. I became aware of this when I went to the altar and asked Jesus to come into my heart. He said.. I will. And He did. Now we are so happy knowing where we are going to end up when we die. Hear my son and be wise. That is God's voice speaking down deep in our souls. All created things will perish. But those things that God promised us and provided for us will never ever perish. Heaven and earth shall pass away. But My words will never pass away. Blessed the Lord God who has given us wonderful promises to all of us.

After Jesus had eaten with His disciples, He washed their feet. O what a wonderful example of humility. I will bless the Lord for giving us all an example to follow. The Lord is gracious and merciful... great in kindness and good to all. Let us all bless His holy name as we read His word. My son, if your heart be wise. My heart will be glad, even mine. Hear the words of the Lord. He wants us all to be wise. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. The Lord is merciful, He is great in kindness and good to all. The Lord is righteous in all His ways. Let us all bless the Lord and give Him praise all the days of our lives. Amen and amen.

How far away do we tarry when going our merry way without reading God's word, praying for lost souls, or just standing in silence before Jesus. As far away as our prize will carry we will miss the blessing God wants to pour out on our lives. Read God's word daily. Obey what it says.Do not let your heart envy sinners... For when we start obeying His word, wonderful things will happen to all of us who listen and obey Him.
