Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this request. I am praying with you for strong protection and for breakthrough, for you and for all who are in need, and for a fresh and powerful work of the Holy Spirit in your lives.
The Scripture teaches that God Himself is our protection. When you belong to Jesus Christ, He has placed His own Spirit within you as a seal of His ownership and as a down payment of His promise to fully redeem you. That seal is His mark that you are His, and the Spirit within bears witness with your spirit that you are a child of God. Because you are His, you can trust Him to keep you, to guard you, and to bring you through.
Jesus promised His followers that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them, so that they could be His witnesses. That promise was fulfilled when the Spirit was poured out upon the church at Pentecost. From the beginning the Spirit of God was at work, moving over the waters at creation, convicting hearts of sin and drawing people to Jesus. No one can genuinely confess that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. When you trusted Christ, the Spirit came to dwell within you. Your body became His temple.
There is a difference between the Spirit being with you to draw you, the Spirit dwelling in you when you believed, and the Spirit coming upon you and filling you to overflow. The first outpouring was a once for all gift to the church. After that day, Scripture never again tells believers to wait or to tarry for the Spirit as if He had not yet been given. Instead we are invited to receive and to be filled. The promise of that power is for all whom the Lord calls, and it remains for the whole age of the church until Jesus returns.
To be filled is to be given power to become like Christ and to do His work. It is the Spirit who conforms us to the image of Jesus, who perfects the love of God in us, and who leads us as sons and daughters of God. When the church was filled, the Spirit began to speak and to direct, sending and guiding and empowering for ministry. In the same way today, as you yield to Him and are led by Him, He will guide your steps, give you wisdom for decisions, and produce His fruit in your life, which is love.
There are many different gifts and ways the Spirit works, but it is the same Spirit who works in each person. Do not try to copy how someone else experienced His filling. Simply be open and sensitive to Him, willing to be used by Him. The Lord desires that your life be filled and led and controlled by the Spirit, just as Jesus was filled and led by the Spirit.
So I pray for you now that the Lord will surround you with His protection and grant you breakthrough in the areas where you feel pressed or hindered. I pray that you will know more deeply that you are His, sealed and kept by His Spirit. I pray that you will be filled anew with the Holy Spirit, that His power would be at work in you, that His love would be perfected in you, and that you would be clearly led by Him day by day. May He bear witness in your heart that you are God's child, strengthen you to stand, and make you an effective witness for Jesus wherever He sends you.
Father, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit and for the power that is available to Your children today. Pour out Your Spirit upon these who are asking, fill them to overflowing, guard them in Your care, and work Your breakthrough in their lives. Conform them more to the image of Christ and lead them by Your Spirit. In the name of Jesus, amen.
