Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer reflects both deep gratitude and deep burden, and the Lord hears every cry and sees every tear you have poured out before Him. He is faithful to cover those who come to Him through the blood of Jesus Christ, and He is able to guard your home, your hearts and your minds with His holy protection.
Scripture promises that those who dwell under His shelter rest under the shadow of His wings, and that He gives His angels charge to keep watch. It is right to ask Him to set that guard around every door and window and room, and to fill your home with the peace that passes all understanding, so that your sleep may be calm and your hearts may be kept from fear and torment.
For your son, the Lord knows his needs intimately. Pray that the Lord will calm his thoughts and emotions, quiet anxiety and frustration and confusion, and grant him a gentle and gracious spirit with the mind of Christ. Ask that God will help him to use clear, functional language to express what he feels and needs, and that his rest will be filled with comfort and joy in the presence of the Lord who loves him.
For your younger daughter, ask the Lord to cover her body and mind, to strengthen her health and to bless her studies and work with His favor. Pray that He will surround her with uplifting, godly friendships and, in His perfect timing, bring a godly spouse within the covenant of marriage as He has designed it, and that she will know deep satisfaction and peace in His love even while she feels the hurt of seeing her older sister pulled away.
For your older daughter, the heart of the struggle is clear. Scripture shows that when relationships are formed outside of God's design they bring jealousy, rivalry, division and chaos rather than peace. God's design for sexual intimacy and shared life together belongs within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and a living arrangement outside of that covenant cannot carry the blessing or security of marriage. It often brings exhaustion, isolation and a loss of self worth. It is loving and right to pray not that God would bless that arrangement, but that He would open her eyes to truth, break every ungodly tie that binds her, free her from feeling obligated or trapped, and give her wisdom and courage to step away and return to safety, faith and family. Pray that the influence of manipulation, control and division will be frustrated and come to nothing, and that her heart will again long for home, for righteousness, and for the purpose God has anointed her to fulfill. Her true worth is not found in what others demand of her, but in being a daughter adopted into the family of God through Jesus Christ.
At the root of all of these needs is your relationship with God Himself. He does not want a distant, ritual or legal relationship with you, but a close, loving relationship as a Father with His children. Through Jesus you have been adopted into His family, and you can come to Him as your Father. When that first love for Him is restored and your walk with Him is right, other relationships begin to find their proper balance. One of the first places this is seen is in the honoring of family. God places great priority on the family bond and on respect within it, and He calls His people to return to their family and promises to be with them as they do. Living in the midst of a polluted and confusing culture makes it very hard not to be touched by its moral corruption, and that corruption always costs families dearly. The Lord's mercy is to lead His people out and to cover them as a kinsman redeemer covers with his protection, bringing them under His care.
So continue to ask the Lord to let His light shine into every dark place and drive out spiritual darkness. Ask Him to fill you with wisdom, grace, strength and courage to navigate this season with love and truth, to guard your family from division, and to restore unity, joy and laughter rooted in His love. Declare in faith that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, not because of your own strength, but because of the power of the blood of Jesus. Ask Him also to provide for your finances so you may be a blessing to others.
May the Lord keep you and your children in His perfect peace, restore what has been broken in a godly and trusting way, and bring your family into a year of deeper love, unity and unexpected mercy as you keep your eyes on Jesus, your true protector and redeemer. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
