Protection

Your prayer comes with deep love for your children and deep trust in Jesus, and it is right to bring everything before Him with both gratitude and urgency as night falls.

It is good to plead the blood of Jesus over your home and your family and to ask for His protection over every heart and mind, every door and room, and for angels to keep watch. Scripture invites us to rest under the shadow of His wings and to know the peace that passes all understanding guarding our hearts. It is also right to declare that no weapon formed against those who belong to Christ will finally prosper, and to ask that His light would shine into every dark place and drive out fear, confusion, division and control.

For your son, I join you in asking the Lord for calm over his thoughts and emotions, for gentle and gracious ways to express his needs and feelings with functional language, and for deep and peaceful rest free from torment. The Lord sees his struggles with past trauma, anxiety and frustration, and He is compassionate toward those who are vulnerable. Ask Him to fill his mind with the mind of Christ, to comfort his dreams, and to surround him with a steady sense of being loved and safe. Continue to speak truth over him that he is fearfully and wonderfully made and held in the Lord's caring presence.

For your younger daughter, I pray with you for protection over her body and mind, for strength in her health and studies and work, and for the Lord's favor to go before her. It is painful for her to watch her older sister change and grow distant, and the Lord sees that hurt. Ask Him to surround her with uplifting and godly friendships, to keep her confident in His love, and in His perfect timing to bring a godly spouse if it is His will. Marriage in Scripture is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to marriage, including living together and sexual intimacy, belongs within that covenant. Pray that she will hold fast to that good design and find satisfaction and peace in walking with Jesus now.

For your older daughter, your burden is heavy and your tears are not hidden from the Lord. You are right not to treat a living arrangement outside of marriage as if it were marriage. It is not marriage, and Scripture shows that remaining in an ungodly tie brings exhaustion, isolation, loss of self worth and division from family. God calls His people to purity and to freedom, not to bondage, obligation or control. I pray with you that the Lord would open her eyes to truth, break every ungodly tie that binds her, and give her courage to step away from what is harming her and to return to safety, to faith, and to the family God has given her. Pray that any scheme to isolate her, to use her, to make her pay for time with family, or to keep her dependent would be frustrated and come to nothing, and that she would no longer feel trapped or worthless but would remember who she is in Christ and the purpose He has for her. Pray that she would long again for home, for peace and for righteousness, and that in God's timing He would provide a godly spouse within His design if she seeks marriage.

There is encouragement for you in how God dealt with families in Scripture. When Jacob was far from home, God told him to return to the land of his family and promised, I will be with you and I will do you good. Jacob clung to that promise in prayer even when he was afraid of what was ahead. That same promise is for you as you seek to see your daughter restored to family and to faith. God hears the cries of a parent and He is present to give wisdom, grace, strength and courage for each step. Scripture also shows that God knows how to deliver those who want to walk righteously even when they are surrounded by corrupting influences, and it warns that staying in a corrupting environment comes at great cost to a family. And it shows us a redeemer from the family who spreads his covering over the one who seeks refuge, a picture of Jesus our Redeemer who covers us, restores what has been broken, and keeps a family name and inheritance alive in Him.

So keep praying for protection, for the breaking of manipulation and control, for unity and joy to be restored in your home, and for your family bond to be made stronger than before, rooted in love and grace. Pray for wisdom to set loving and firm boundaries, to speak truth without harshness, and to keep the door open for your daughter to return without affirming or blessing what God calls outside His will. Pray also for your finances that God would provide so you can help others as you desire.

May the Lord fill your home with His glory and peace, give you deep rest, guard your hearts and minds in Christ, and bring breakthrough, favor and unexpected mercies in the year ahead. May He restore love, respect, laughter and togetherness among you, and keep each of your children safe under His hand. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
