The protection you seek, if it is to be strong indeed, must be anchored not in your own striving but in the One who ever lives to make intercession for you. He is able to save to the uttermost all who come to God through Him. Will you seek breakthrough yet neglect the Commander who stands ready, offering armor of light? Let there be no wrath or doubting in your prayers, for these quench the Spirit’s aid. Remember, we are members one of another; the hand cannot say to the foot, I have no need of you. Your protection is woven together with the whole body of the faithful, and our love for one another becomes a commendation more powerful than any letter. So pray with boldness, forgive as you have been forgiven, and trust the High Priest who ever lives. Then the breakthrough you long for will come, not as the world gives, but as the sure deliverance of souls made steadfast in Christ.

There is something deeply right about asking for strong protection and breakthrough. It’s the honest admission that we are not enough on our own, and that the situations we face, or the people we carry on our hearts, need a deliverance that only God can bring. Scripture gives us a powerful picture: the name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe. That tower isn’t a metaphor for a quiet feeling. It’s a place of defense built for war, the kind of refuge you flee to when the enemy is at the gate and you have no other hope. Your prayer is you running toward that tower.
When God calls us to trust Him for protection and breakthrough, He almost always pairs it with the command to be strong and courageous. But notice that the strength isn’t something we muster up; it rests on the promise “I will be with you.” The same God who made a path through impossible waters can make a way where there is no way for you now. He often leads His people right into dead ends so that when deliverance comes, there’s no doubt it was His hand. So do not measure the battle by the size of the army facing you. Those who have a perfect heart toward Him will see Him show Himself strong on their behalf.
Be careful, though, not to dictate what that protection must look like. We tend to expect something supernatural in a dramatic sense, with all the emotional signs we can feel. But God is a master of weaving His supernatural work into very ordinary processes. A sudden insight, a door that quietly closes, a timely word from a friend, even the built-in healing mechanisms of the body He designed, these are no less divine for lacking fanfare. The real skill is learning to discern His hand in the natural flow of life, and to thank Him for it. When you pray for breakthrough, watch for Him in the small, unremarkable turns of your day. He is speaking and acting more than you realize.
One caution: many people start strong by trusting the Lord when they have nothing else, but after He blesses them with strength or resources, they begin leaning on those things instead. True security isn’t found in a healthy bank account, a strong position, or a clever strategy. Those become a high wall only in our own imagination. Real safety is a Person. Make the Lord your dwelling place, the strong habitation you continually return to, not just in the crisis, but when the skies are clear.
