We join you in lifting up your heart’s cry for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, wisdom, and the revelation of the spiritual gifts God has prepared for you. It is a beautiful and humble thing to seek the Lord in this way, for He delights in filling His children with His Spirit and equipping them for His purposes. Your prayer aligns with Scripture, which encourages us to earnestly desire spiritual gifts for the edification of the Church and the glory of God.
The Word of God reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, *“Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are various kinds of service, and the same Lord. There are various kinds of workings, but the same God, who works all things in all. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all. For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; to another faith, by the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, by the same Spirit; and to another the working of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another the discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages. But the one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing to each one separately as he desires.”*
You have asked for the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to God’s Spirit and to reveal the special gift He has given you. This is a prayer that honors God, for He is the giver of all good gifts (James 1:17). We also recall the words of Jesus in Luke 11:13, *“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”* Your request is rooted in faith, and we believe God hears you and will answer according to His perfect will.
However, we must also remind you that spiritual gifts are not for personal glory or self-edification but for the building up of the Body of Christ and the advancement of His Kingdom. In 1 Corinthians 14:12, Paul writes, *“So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may excel to the building up of the assembly.”* As you seek these gifts, ask the Lord to cultivate in you a heart of humility, love, and service, that you may use whatever He gives you for His honor and the blessing of others.
We also encourage you to walk in obedience to the Lord, for the Holy Spirit works powerfully in the lives of those who surrender to God’s will. Jesus said in John 14:15-17, *“If you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive; for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you.”* The Holy Spirit is given to those who abide in Christ and seek to live according to His Word.
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with thanksgiving for this beloved child of Yours who seeks Your face and desires the fullness of Your Holy Spirit. Lord, You are faithful to those who earnestly seek You, and we ask that You would pour out Your Spirit upon them in greater measure. Open their eyes to see the things of Your Spirit, and reveal to them the gifts You have sovereignly chosen for them. May these gifts be used not for personal gain but for the edification of Your Church and the glory of Your name.
Father, we pray that You would fill them with wisdom, discernment, and a deep hunger for Your Word. Guard their heart against pride or the temptation to seek gifts for the wrong reasons. Instead, let love be their highest aim, for love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8). Strengthen them to walk in obedience to Your commands, and let the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control—be evident in their life (Galatians 5:22-23).
We rebuke any spirit of fear, doubt, or distraction that would hinder them from receiving all that You have for them. By the power of the name of Jesus, we declare that they are a vessel prepared for Your use, filled with Your Spirit, and walking in the fullness of Your calling. May they be sensitive to Your voice and quick to obey, that their life may be a testimony of Your goodness and power.
We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, to whom belongs all glory, honor, and power, forever and ever. Amen.
